It's not that a programmer would not want threads. However, if you want threads to handle truly concurrent events, as opposed to just multiple strongly related processes, the design of the threads will be entirely different. His point was that on an x86 any attempt to design truly concurrent threads is a waste of time b/c of the underlying architecture. Of course Linux runs on more than just x86 hardware, so the point moot.
No one will want to upgrade their server every 4 years, just as Microsoft has finally released enough service packs to get their current server install working properly!
It would seem that four years is not a particularly short period of time to roll out a new server OS. There will be very few servers that will last for more than 8 years.(2 products) Therefore, if microsoft continues the current support schedule, most of the servers will never be out of the support/ patch period.
And how many people buy PCs with Windows on them, and immediately format the disk(s) and install Linux?
probably very few. from my experience, people who choose to install linux (as hobbyists) tend to also build their own machines, because they choose not to pay the premium that goes along with buying a computer from any major brand. (the exception to this is laptops)
The whole idea behind linux is that it is not free as in beer, but in that is free as in speech. I would rather pay a nominal fee for a easy to use, secure linux distro that get windows XP for free.
The article claims that there will be 1 billion windows users by the year 2010. IMO, this is the most important number in the whole article.
The best hope for linux is in getting new users from the pool of non-users instead of from the pool of windiws users. Once people use windows, they believe for some reason that they will be unable to switch.
I would like to use this opportunity to correct a mistaken belief of many windows users. Macs have a right mouse button. They are actually missing the left mouse button. However on a Mac, the right mouse button has the same functionality as the left mouse button on a PC.

in a word: No. Apple will go to great lengths to avoid giving you a replacement. Each replacement iBook costs quite a bit of money, and unless you are a really good Apple customer, the chances of it making economic sense for them are practically nil. The best way to get a new machine would be if it is part of a larger contract, at which point it pays for them to keep you happy.
I'm German, so I feel qualified to answer this comment. Given the choice between an Israeli webmailer and Google, I'd choose Google.
Without taking into account features, performance, etc. etc. he picks Google based on the fact that the other one is from Israel. This is accurate? How is the fact that he is from Germany qualify him to post that?

When I was at the Apple store 2 weeks back getting a new iBook battery, I remember some guy came in having trouble with the headphones b/c of static. I am betting that was related.

Considering Mosaic came out only 11 years ago, and arguably that is arguably the the begining of the internet, it is highly unlikely that people have been predicting the end of the internet for the last 20 years.
