I'm with you on this. My goal is to make Telemarketing such a hellish profession that nobody would take the job for under $100/hour, making it unfeasable to use telemarketing.
Plus, it's fun. Recently I had this one.
"Hi, this is Jane, calling from your magazine publishers. We're calling..."
"Hi, Jane. Which magazine?"
"I'm sorry?"
"Which of my magazine's publishers are you calling from?"
"We're Your Magazine Publishers. I'm calling..."
"Sorry, which magazaine?"
"Err, the name of the company is Your Magazine Publishers."
"So you're actually not affiliated with any of my magazines?"
Why, back in my day, we didn't HAVE laptops. We had clunky old XT machines that weighed about a ton and you were lucky if your desktop held them! You took notes then booted up your computer to put them in via edlin, and by the time you were ready, you were too drunk to care!
Damn kids, get off my lawn!
(Sorry, just realized new collegians this year were born in 1985. Caused a bit of a panic attack.)
There is a similar system here in the US on phones. The baby bells own the lines but then lease them at wholesale (regulated rate) to other telcos to provide local phone service.
Unfortunately, SBC just got our legislature here in Illinois to let them double our rate, because... it's... err... good for campaign contributions I guess.

Works like a charm for me.
I'll disagree. My degrees are in linguistics and biochemistry, but I ended up getting an entry-level helpdesk job out of college based on my hobby work, then just started moving up the line because I like to learn new things and picked up a lot of stuff quickly. I went from Windows 3.1 troubleshooting to Desktop Apps to NT to Novell to Domino and now I'm working on shifting into Unix admin.
I've never had a problem with not having relevant degrees -- it's always been about "can you do this job?"
When HR came to me about someone mass-sending his own resume over and over again, they wanted to know if they could avoid receiving it again.
I wonder if setting up a rule on the box to automatically delete the message on arrival would have been sufficient, or if it needs to be blocked before it gets there?
On a game-guild messageboard I frequent, one of the other mods wanted to mark all the LotR stuff as spoilers, since she hadn't read the book. So I added a warning to the top of the board:
Please mark all LotR movie info as **SPOILER** because Mynn's been really busy for the last 50 years.
Psst -- Romeo and Juliet both die! Muahahaha! I'm an evil spoiler!
Nah, I don't think so. While I think there've been a number of reasonably attractive women over the years on the show, they're not really doing much for me. Personally, I enjoy the writing and the consistent mythos for the world they build. Plus, there have been a handful of episodes that stand singly as just great works of television.
May not be for you, but it definitely has its merits.
I also enjoyed the movie, but the TV series differed from it significantly. Joss Whedon wasn't happy with what happened with the script and wanted something closer to his original vision, thus the show, and it succeeded quite well for about 3 1/2 seasons.
After that, it's had its moments, but not quite where it was. Still worth watching, though. I'll tune in tonight.
Has been oh-so-successful in dealing with China on its human rights record by applying pressure. I'm sure they'll cave right in on the spam.
And I thought MY DVD drive was slow.
Oooh, stories like this make me SO ANGRY.
Shocked, shocked I am!

Half are Windows, half are Unix? Hmm...quick math... 3 Windows, 3 Unix, 1 ... Windex?

I thought that was a measurement of the weight I've put on since starting to work in IT.

Shockingly, the spammer's opt-out option seemed to be defunct. Who'da thunkit?
