The only reason Microsoft did this was because development of IE was costing money. It was technology they were giving away for free. They don't do this to Windows and blaming it on Linux because they sell Windows and make a huge load of money on it. They have to fight that fight, but with IE for Mac, it's just not worth that fight for the small Mac browser share and the costing of millions of dollars in development.
This is only business sense, and it makes perfect sense.
This could be interesting. I mean, current engines render the polygons, and when zooming in, only magnifies the polygons, so instead of normal view, say consisting of 10,000 polygons, the zoomed in view is only 2,000 polygons on the screen, with all the textures magnified (and thus pixelated).
Sounds like this engine, when zooming in, or walking closer to, the polygons are kept at a constant rate so the models look more crisp as you get closer, instead of looking like crap in normal games.
Actually, Microsoft has a great internship program. The interns are treated like real employees. They are given an office of their own over the summer and are entitled to everything a full-time employee gets. They also get paid ~$1000 a week. 45% of the interns get hired full time. So yes, companies with money do a lot of things that companies with lesser money can't. The more money the company has, the greater it seems the company is giving out.
Also, Microsoft has this www.ideashappen.com where people just write a paragraph of a great idea and could end up with $25,000.
Corporations do this all the time, so when you broadly say that a mega billion dollar company such as Microsoft does not do anything remotely like Epic, it shows that you should research a little bit.
I just downloaded Trepia and the first person on the top of the list was two stations away from me (I'm in Tokyo). We chatted and hit it off immediately. He had similar interests and really cool projects going on (working on intro movie for an upcoming Namco game!). We exchanged more stable contact information (MSN IDs at this point) and will meet up for beer and perhaps talk business. This program really is great for making new contacts. Atleast it worked for me =)
What is going on is that Symantec's AntiVirus software is clashing with Microsoft's attempt to update some critical files, and when only half of the files are updated and the other half is denied, the result is a broken machine.
The fault can't entirely be blamed on Microsoft in this case.
Some great bittorrent sites

BitTorrent Guide
·
· Score: 4, Informative
For everything else, http://www.torrentse.cx, which has a comment system for each torrent file so people can post up their thoughts. Also they allow people to upload their own torrents. This site has the following sections: Misc, Movies, TV, Music, Porn, Books, Games, Software, Comics, and Anime.
Also, http://www.suprnova.org is good too, but has been having a lot of problems lately. They have: Games, Movies, TV Shows, Music, Apps, Misc, and DVD
http://www.bitetorrent.com has TV Shows, Movies, Music, Apps, Games, Comics, Anime and Misc. Allows people to upload their own torrent and has a tracker as well.
Anyways, those are the most popular BitTorrent places. And with me posting this now (and perhaps getting modded up =D), they should be even better and faster (if the website doesn't die from the load first).
Sorry, lead guy quit and moved on. Read his weblog at JimmyGrewal.com.
