In this case slippery slope more likely relates to larger 'telecoms incumbent" ISP's and cost. To disconnect a user, first you would have to contact them and inform them of the problem, then in the majority of instances help them resolve the issue. For big corporations this is a profit eating 'service and support cost' and who are the customer that dare to expect actual 'service and support' beyond the make believe advertising about pretend outsourced 'service and support'.
So it won't happen for major ISP's until they are forced by law to do it, greedy, useless, idiot, bastards.
In this case, the spammer went with the, no lawyer defence and didn't even bother to turn up. Big catch with that is "Guerbuez fooled its users into providing him with their user names and passwords" and that is interfering with a computer network a criminal offence. The evidence for which has now been established in a civil court and the spammer has show complete contempt for that court not only be freely admitting his guilt but also by mocking the fine by saying he will declare bankrupt and keep all the criminal proceeds from that crime.
This then forces US law to intervene and seek criminal prosecution for interfering with a computer network, via obtaining user name and passwords under false pretences and using that to fraudulently misrepresent the products he was advertising as being recommended by friends of the victims and also interfering with those 'friends' computer network.
You have the right to remain silent, remember those words when you want to get rich quick by breaking the law and don't make a ass out of yourself by publicly bragging about and defending your criminal activities.
Of course the bomb threat paints anyone who opposes the for profit goals of Dunlap, Grubb, & Weaver, as terrorists to be harassed by Federal investigators and laid open to lawsuit by Dunlap, Grubb, & Weaver for even more profits. With 4 chan, the likely hood of just one bomb threat zero, thousands of bomb threats going to every location touched by Dunlap, Grubb, & Weaver, now that's far more likely, an out of control joke rather than an actual threat.
Catastrophic melt down, thanks to wind and weather means it attacks everyone in the whole region down wind from the disaster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_Mj5IbXwW0. Basically Israel would be declaring war upon everyone in the region including their own citizens, in order to what, keep the violence going and feed the military industrial complex. A real pariah state that has, hmm, attempted to launch a weapon of mass destruction. This stinks of intelligence contractors out of control, of an intelligence service attacking it's own country to defend it's own power and, of psychopaths with far to much power and not enough oversight.
Interesting new weapon, a high temperature crucible filled with fissioning radioactive elements, just feed it raw material that it will superheat and irradiate creating a toxic dust cloud that will contaminate land for thousands of years depending upon which way the wind blows. Simply open it or close it depending upon prevailing weather patterns, hmm, no one dare destroy it else it remain permanently active. A real cut off your nose to spite your face weapon well suited to the modern psychopathic military industrial complex.
They didn't have to be spies, all they had to do was hike across the border and get arrested so that a PR show could be launched upon the public. Look at naughty Iran, locking up illegal immigrants, putting them through an extended interrogation and legal processes and then based upon their country of origin or religion declaring them an enemy combatant and locking them up without a trial and then torturing them for years as part of some insane investigation of the effectiveness of various forms of torture psychology experiment. Oh wait, I got confused, that was GITMO and the Bush administration.
Being an accessory after the fact and protecting those that committed crimes makes you just a evil and no amount of pointing the finger at some one else will ever change it.
PR stooge - Plese sir, Dr. Schmidt sir, pardon me but you made yourself look like a real perverted arse hole when you claimed nobody has a right to privacy from you and, you need to fix it because it is severely damaging Google's image and your job is on the line. Scmidt - Can I blame the new guy or the pervert engineer. PR Stooge - not really sir, the words came out of your mouth publicly, but you could point the finger out someone else for something worse. Schmidt - worse, there is nothing evil in prying into everyone's private life, we need to keep an eye on all those families and help them to make the right decisions, the ones our advertising clients have paid for. PR Stooge - most families would consider that evil as the decisions are often not in their best interests but 'er' speaking of evil how about we change the topic and stop talking about privacy and pick on the lobbyists instead, they are definitely more 'er' not as family supportive as us. Schmidt - but we have lobbyists on the payroll trying to lock in our version of 'we have the right to analyse all your data which is now ours net neutrality'. PR stooge, doesn't matter everyone know lobbyists are lying, deceitful, corrupt, who will say and support anything they are paid too and the public will still accept it and, as long as we continue to pay ours they will accept anything you do or say, profits first, last and everything in between, the sociopath lobbyist motto after all. Schmidt - OK.
The rest of us - really how gullible do you think we are?
Talking about the stuff not mentioned. How about the biggest thing of all, now that Minnesota's data is in M$ cloud every company that wants to do business with it and every government department that needs to access it will also be forced into M$ permanent proprietary connections and data never stop paying for cloud.
Basically the whole state will end up bleeding hundreds of millions of dollars for ever, adjusted for inflation because of the short sighted distorted thinking of the current administrators. What will be the biggest lock in to keep it permanent, "Oh my God, what about the cost of converting data, Oh My God what about the cost of retraining, Oh my God what the administration costs", same old same old lock in crap. Hint pay the cost once and the licence fees are gone for ever, as for the administration costs they are much the same excluding endless forced upgrades and the associated data conversions and retraining.
That state has just locked every other company out and grossly ant-competitive contract that should be investigated by the Feds. The cloud is B$, in reality it is just a permanent lock in and a constant source of costs leaving your system permanently vulnerable because you can have no part of it disconnected from the internet. The reality is kept it local, don't connect to the internet unless it absolutely has too, power supply backup (due to absolute necessity to keep functioning serious power supply back up).
Now a single corporation ultimately controls the State of Minnesota, if people don't think so than they have no idea how things can be automated, data changed and added too, forced recipients of advertising, creeping competitor lock outs, proprietary protocol access fees, corporate access to all state communications. It really is crazy stuff to trust all that to a single corporation and grossly inappropriate for any government to do so, whether local, state or federal.
Dungeon Keeper http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeon_Keeper was about as close as game makers got to that and it was done as a comedy, nobody really complained. I wonder how say Dungeon Keeper 3 would be received now considering the substantial improvement in the quality of graphics since version 2.
The reality in this case was it had nothing to do with protecting peoples feelings it was all a Fox not-News anti-Muslim beat up in the run up to the elections. Nobody cared only the Fox talking heads carried on about it and now Ea has caved into Fox most likely in a behind the scenes right wing political and marketing deal.
Fox is really starting to lose it's propaganda battle against the internet, as each of it's bullshit stories are pulled apart and dismembered on the internet and kept in the public eye. Fox's audience is more and more being limited to an ignorant radical right wing element, which makes you wonder why EA even bothered, the Fox not-News audience definitely not game players, they are grumpy old white folk who spend all day mindless staring at cable TV.
Google is neither here nor there in this patent struggle. M$ is suing a customer Motorola a suicide suit, no windows mobile on Motorola. Instead of forcing Motorala to sell more windows mobile phones the nett result is the best way for Motorola to fight the lawsuit is to work to cut off the money supply to it's competitor.
All other Android users will take a similar track. Android is a free open operating system, M$'s civil suit is a threat to all of it's major customers, gang up of M$ now and they can simply gut the beast of Redmond.
Android for Google is all about creating an open environment in which it can compete and shutting down the closed M$ and Apple environments. For Android users, not Google customers, they are the end users but, for the manufacturers who choose to use Android and not be controlled by M$ or Apple, this is now a battle for independence and freedom from exploitative control by one corporation.
Keeping in mind software patents are meaningless in Europe.
Have you heard the story about the door. Don;t like the story don't read it, gees and certainly don't comment. Slashdot is more about the comments and the links sometimes in those comments, the story is about tweaking imaginations of nerds and setting off a round of those comments.
Rule of thumb every internet property is worth buying, subject to the price. Would second life fit M$ well no but it certainly fits MSN which M$ owns.
So MSN could do good stuff with 2nd life especially if it had a direct link from the front page but it all depends on the price. MSN is already losing money and that Bing name nonsense rather than MSN Search does even more damage, so spending more is difficult. Basically the wrong people are managing MSN ie. the M$ board and they lack the imagination and creativity to move in forward and generate a profit.
Do not be a wanna be tea bagger socialism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism does not equal communism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism. Kept in mind that every human society evolved from socialism (the tribe). The roots of capitalism stemmed from, environmental disasters that result in large shifts of human population creating population pressures. That environment of resource warfare was one in which the sociopath thrived (worked with other sociopaths to dominate regional populations ignoring tribal boundaries) and the chieftain and warrior class were born ie those that owned others and the resources through violence.
The growth of sociopath marked the growth of capitalism at it's most extreme monarchy, then as numbers of sociopaths grew the merchant class tool over, those that can shamelessly and in fact enjoy wallowing in luxury while those around them starve and suffer in misery (the greater the disparity the more it feeds their ego, hence psychopathy).
A government of the people, by the people and, for the people by definition is a socialist democracy (if you think otherwise then you truly are a victim of modern mass media marketing).
There is an enormous difference between a public company and a private company. A public company is not entitled to any privacy where the information being withheld has a material impact upon their actual or perceived value to current or potential investors.
Any company that attempts to keep secret information, that has a detrimental value upon the company, is attempting to defraud potential investors and, setting them up for losses, so that existing corrupt executives can dump their worthless share options onto yet another sucker pension fund.
That AT&T are signalling their intent to keep secrets facts that could have an impact upon their investment value is a sign to the SEC that AT&T should immediately be investigated to find what else in being kept secret and about to explode in current or potential investors faces after, AT&T executives and insiders have dumped their shares.
If the claim by AT&T is the information should be kept secret because it will affect their value, then logically the judge is forced to release that information equally to all parties at the same time, for exactly that reason.
Oh, you mean the same Europe where they are trying to pay of the same financial abuses of the their Financial system by sticking to the little people rather than accumulating debt and then sticking it to little people like the US. Yep, in Europe those cheeky Europeans are refusing to be stuck with the debt and burden of the rich and greedy and are forcing those governments to rethink their choices and basically stick it to the rich and greedy for screwing up the financial system.
Sure looks like the rich and greedy in Europe aren't going to get the "we take all the profits and you take all the risks" free ride, whilst in the US it is all "please sir may I have another" from the bottom while the top whine they still don't have enough. The free ride for the rich in Europe is certainly coming to an end and no amount of mass media bullshit will stop the free exchange of thought going on between the majority via the internet and then taking it to the street as a public show of determination.
More embarrassingly that disclosed information also detailed ASC:Law main business tactic. File copyright claims againts people for P2P porn ie. blackmail them into paying off rather than be publicly disclosed for sharing same rather nasty porn basically a 500 pounds a go.
Apparently the normal route of extorting poor people to pay off rather than fight of the civil suits as done in the US doesn't really work in the UK as such the have gone down the blackmail route. It will be interesting to see what happens in France now that the right wing government has allowed open slather on basically baseless "WeSaySo" copyright claims (http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/WESAYSO dinosaur claims from a dinosaur industry).
The catch with the whole theory of a software hack, the stuxnet worm is far too tightly tied to Iran, hardware is far more likely to be the culprit rather than software. So hardware infrastructure in Iran, well if it was sourced from China or Russia likely safe, except of course in companies head quartered elsewhere were involved.
So access to windows source and Siemens PLC seems a must, so the really only leaves two suspects. Now if the worm in industrials plants result of industrial accidents that kill people, then clearly it would be an act of war, which would be pretty stupid because there are far more effective means of crippling infrastructure with far more primitive methods.
I don't think you understand open source at all. The whole idea is too form association with the other leading open source packages that fill the gap, ensure data exchange compatibility and provide joint distribution and branding. You don't re-invent the wheel with open source, that is the whole idea. So for drawing just work with the Gimp to create az version that can blend in with the overall suite and do the same in other areas.
With regards to mail, the real focus is on mail serving not mail reading, that is neither here nor there. With IPv6 taking over and every internet using having their own IP address and the very low cost of small Linux internet appliance, everyone can pretty much run their own mail server (perhaps.name might really kick off).
Australian already does it under another department http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/LANDING/pc=INTERNET_MAIN. Clearly the Australian government is signalling they are not interested in playing cyber warfare and feeding the global military industrial complex with billions more of tax payer dollars.
The threat is being hype up again and again, and yet all that bloody infrastructure not so long ago was safe from internet attacks because there was not internet and it ran fine. So cut the crap, in they connect important infrastructure to the internet in order to take stupid cheap shortcuts and skimp on a few dollars and their system gets hacked and costs hundreds of millions, then they're the bloody idiots and they should be the ones going to jail for criminal negligence.
Easy answer if governments want secure infrastructure then they can simply threaten executives responsible for keeping the infrastructure secure and safe with fines and prison time. Watch all the silly short cuts disappear overnight and a totally secure system take it's place.
As long as corporations are safe to take short cuts to inflate executive bonuses, then infrastructure collapse is ensured, whether mines blow up, oil rigs burn and sink, pipes burst, bridges collapse, workers die, internet failures etc. etc. as long those who make bad decisions are not individually prosecuted than expect them to continue.
Additional LibreOffice can now expand into other realms that form part of the complete business suite, including project management, full relational database features, mail server and client, as well as CAD/CAM.
So the new branding might highlight it's expansion ie Liberty Business Suite, with mods related to specific business and organisation types, education, medical, government local/state/national. So an expansion beyond small business and the home user, to saving literally hundreds of billions of dollars through out global industry, commerce, education and government.
Obviously in the brand change, should be a move to up the tempo of the marketing to expand the scope in the publics eye. Less focus on tweaking essay writing and spreadsheets and greater focus on expanding into other very import facets of modern digital document handling and creation.
Apple creates a development environment that it controls to ensure it can get a percentage in dollars terms of everything occuring on it's products, if it could it would charge a tax on all financial transactions just as M$ wanted to.
Android promotes free Google gets it's percentage because it is simply betting a competing in open environments. Catch for developers on iOS more likely to sell apps but a limited and likely shrinking market, on Android the rapidly growing environment not only on phones but on smartbooks and TV, lots of the apps will end up getting produced better for free as open source projects.
Answer in the short term screw as much out of iOS as you can but in the medium and long term adapt to Android and producing code for others (other companies seeking to market themselves and the ir no computer products by giving away branded apps).
Apple is becoming a little uncool as the apple marketdroid trolls got carried away with their own brand of PR=B$ and it is all starting to get a little lame.
Perhaps than it is time to offer a reward for information leading to the prosecution of major tax cheats, perhaps a 10% commission on tax and penalties recovered upon succesful prosecution.
The ideal retirement package for tax haven executives. Sick of counting other peoples crooked millions when your only getting thousands, have various tax agencies around the world got an offer for you. Hand over the evidence to roast a thousand multi-millionaire tax cheats and you could become a multi-millionaire yourself. Now what typical bean counting corporate executive wouldn't leap at that.
It might be a crime to create a copy of the data but it is also a crime to facilitate tax evasion, launder the proceeds of crime, manage illegal arms deals, make possible the theft of a countries capital assets by corrupt political leaders and generally run a countries finances by supporting the financial management of crimes in other countries.
Don't you people know when you are being trolled by a marketdroid dickhead.
PS it ain't stealing and it never will be, it is copying, the mechanics knowledge wasn't stolen, it wasn't vacuumed from their head, they are not wandering around the landscape sprouting nonsense like some zombie marketdroid.
Of course the MPAA and the pigoploists given the opportunity will not just demand copyright protection of the video of changing the oil filter but also the idea of creating a video about changing an oil filter and even a licence fee from anyone who ever changes an oil filter because they might have seen the video or spoken to someone who has seen the video.
The problem is the continual extension of copyright, its duration, scope, power, criminal penalties, invasion of privacy and control of the public. It is even worse, copyright has led to the direct corruption of the whole political process, as a result of it largely being run by psychopaths with narcissists as their puppet front people.
Grow up, no count all the the value of all the FOSS licences given away free over the last decade for Linux equal to in value to top dollar windows server licences, what's that now, a thousand dollars a shot. So say around 30 million Linux users with full server licences times a thousand dollars a shot given away free year in and year out. Now and in all the other FOSS software given away free. There is a whole lot more public benefit in giving it away free than charging through the nose for it and giving back only a small percentage for marketing purposes.
Of course if your Linux Operating system is properly secured it makes it rather difficult for them to ask for user name and password to check for M$ software, makes no sense at all does it. That's why you publicise your use of free open source software.
In this case slippery slope more likely relates to larger 'telecoms incumbent" ISP's and cost.
Anonymous troll much. Mechanics video, somebody will do it for free http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=change+oil+filter&aq=f, http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=change+transmission+fluid&aq=0, http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+change+differential&aq=7m, etc etc etc.
