what's even funnier is that miniCDRs are more expensive than regular sized CDRs, per unit, because no one buys them as much, and they're not as massproduced...
isnt there a (apocryphal?) guy who once unleashed some kind of worm to bog down specific systems because he was late on an assignment and needed an excuse to delay it?
I have no clue what it's called, but when I was a kid, there was a local tv channel that hosted "video games" that you could play by touchtone phone after dialing the game number.
Only one person could play at a time, BUT all the games were crappy except a Star Trek game, and it was pretty easy to play late at night or very early in the morning.
It was turn-based, and the ships, stars, starbases, etc, were represented by a letter on a square grid, ie E for the Enterprise, K for a klingon ship, * for a star...
The fission power business depends on massive subsidy, at least in.uk. As for fossil-fuel energy, that may have the clout to squash new technologies in.uk and.us, but I suspect that in.jp, where they're wholly dependent on imported power, any alternative would be welcomed.
We all know that these kinds of experiments opened a blackhole in.cx
IIRC, some stripclubs in Canada offered lapdance vouchers in exchange for Bre-X stocks at some point after that scandal made them basically worthless...
the RIAA could complain if some of its members release a whole artist's catalogue on one blu-ray disk (with a few exclusive goodies thrown in) and such a disk gets pirated.
I have to wonder if this situation is not what drove my best physics teacher to alcoholism...
I can't imagine what it's like to have to perpetuate a system you don't like because you're a slave to your house mortgage, car payments, etc.
Oh wait...
better yet, slashdot could use a seven-color rainbow to represent the, um, full spectrum of people, their political and other views...
I think it would be more appropriate if we had a "sex" category...
the guy who runs sensibleerection.com started sensibleelection.com...
the guys who run gizmodo started fleshbot...
only seems natural for slashdot to start, uh, sexdot? slashsex?

Also, you can't boot of USB keys, so a floppy drive is pretty much essential for the purpose of running stuff like memtest86
couldn't you also boot from a cdrom?
(and yes, putting memtest86 on a CDR also makes me cringe at the waste of space)
Why put it in the middle of a wheat field
o pdusting...
dunno, but we're going to have to come up with new terminology:
war-plowing
war-sowing
war-harvesting
war-cr
Name me one decent Star Trek game

It was a very fun and decent game for the times.
and an address where the RIAA can send you Cease & Desist, and subpoenas to. ;-)
if the film "isn't ready"?

there are companies out there that will put a gps device in your car as part of an after-theft car location service...
that, and with some green cold cathodes under the chassis, to be the envy of every other SUV driver on the planet!
not to mention the light fixtures and hydroponic systems required to grow pot in a basement...
oh and thanks for reminding me to feed the lizard.
What are the chances that I'll be able to retrofit a 2005 Hummer with one of those babies?
at equal volume, muscle tissue weighs twice as much as fat.

"It's the heat shields that are inflatable, and they are armored - e.g. not the same material as your pool floats..."
It's only a matter of time before ThinkGeek starts selling pool floats made from orbital re-entry material.
I blame that evil bastard, the feature Creep.
for the hardcorest tinfoil hatters among us in the news today, as silent, flying Big Black Triangles sightings are on the rise...
Personally, I'm hoping this is some kind of military craft that is going to be unveiled soon, so we can check out whatever cool tech is inside.
In Fable, the moral decisions you make affect the character's appearance, the outcome of the game, and so on.
reminds me of Star Wars KOTOR...

Can it still be called war-driving if the whole place is wi-fi accessible?
