Forgive my ignorance (or don't, your call), but if he's got "electromagnetic hypersensitivity", why the fuck is he a DJ? Does he have ANY idea what speakers are? How they work?
"Ex-DJ", and while I think the guy is a clear moron, wired speakers are (by definition) not wireless. While I've seen wireless microphones plenty, I've never seen wireless speakers in a professional setting. And the sound coming out of them depends on pressure waves, not electromagnetic waves.
Yeah, I know what it is. I was saying I don't know how the expression got to be so commonplace.

Now that you mention it, it probably comes out of the fervor in the 80's over crack. Back then, the story was that it made people into these super-crazy super-strong unstoppable criminals. You could shoot a crack-head in the face 5 times back then, and they'd still lift up your police car and throw it across the street. From what I've heard, the punishment for crack possession is still far worse than it is for cocaine possession. And yes, I get my drug insight from NPR, so yes, I am a nerd.

It's a fairly common American expression, or at least it was. Generally anything on crack is something supercharged. Bigger, faster, better. I have no idea where the saying originated from. It's best not to think about it, I guess.
Large businesses simply don't want to expend the resources and time to make things available for the "little guys", because the net return is so much lower.
Actually, as much of a PITA as Microsoft is, they've actually made the XNA toolkit available for free to indie developers who want to publish XBox Live games. It's comparatively easy to use, based on C#, and lets you produce a game for the PC and XBox Live at the same time. All you really have to do is set up the controls for both systems.
I've only been buying Xbox arcade / Wiiware games on my consoles for the past 2-3 months, they seem to be the most interesting. Perhaps the trend is turning on itself as it takes so much time to make a larger game nowadays.
I have to agree with that. Especially with the PS3, where there aren't as many games, the ones you can buy online are much more imaginative, and pretty darn cheap. Echochrome is a favorite of mine.
Unfortunately, XBox Live games are way easier to produce--using the free XNA toolkit--than Wii or PS3 games. You can make a game for both PC and XBox Live at the same time, with the same codebase...
severely diminish the quality of all radios out there.
Have you actually listened to the radio? How can it get any worse? Oh no, I won't be able to hear the same eleven songs played over and over and over again with random call-ins by idiots asking for the same crappy song that got played 30 minutes ago. I don't know if this legislation will help make radio better, but I can't imagine it getting much worse than it already is.
If he acknowledges that he is violating the law, and will continue to do so regardless, he is also seemingly willing to accept any consequences that result from his actions, so I see no problem. He is partaking in Civil Disobedience. Part of that is accepting the consequences of your actions. Not that I agree or disagree with his decision. If he has a constitutional argument, maybe he'll be able to change the law, but I'm sure he realizes he's making a gamble.
With only wind and solar power they will be nothing more than helpless little hippies, ripe for a good hosing! Right? Please tell me that is true. I certainly don't want some granola-munching nanobots telling me what to do!
I imagine they'll eventually learn to feed on human flesh.
You can design them to be wiped with an EMP, or to stop working when they're out of a specific magnetic field (and have such a magnetic field when you want them to work), a bit like some laboratory bacteria are made unable to synthesize proteins that they need so they can't survive in the wild. You could also make them solar powered and use a solar shade when you're done.
Well, then they'll just build/generate their own magnetic field, or dismantle your solar shade machine...
Perhaps, but unless they've been in jail then it's probably just the same old hypocrisy and moral superiority based on age.
So, yes, Kevin Mitnick was pretty famously put into prison. From what I remember, he got a particularly harsh sentence because the general public didn't really understand what it was that he did. He wasn't even allowed to use the phone in jail because their was a silly belief that he could launch nuclear missiles by whistling tones into the receiver or something. He did something wrong, yes, but people confused real life with WarGames and he got the short end of the stick. If anybody's learned this lesson the hard way, it's definitely Mitnick.
allowing them to operate unfettered in the United States would present a clear danger to our youth, who are subject to becoming addicted to gambling at an early age
Even if they did--for some odd reason--forget to make internet gambling specifically illegal for minors, what kid has a line of credit that's sufficient enough that they can gamble online for long enough to create an addiction?
Illegal offshore Internet gambling sites are a criminal enterprise
Gotta love arguments against legalizing things that are based entirely on the fact that they are currently illegal... Then again, I live in a state where gambling is legal, so long as you're on a body of water (no matter how small), so it's not like any of this has ever made much sense...
Nobody forced you to click on it...

What would be _really_ useful to know is which brands of CDR last the longest...

... or to spend less by investing in a few additional systems to be used as dedicated render nodes.
Especially if you buy used systems. Computer hardware depreciates fast.
Wouldn't it be possible to use Amazon EC2 to set up a scalable render farm?

Adobe AIR would make more sense. There's a reasonably large and growing library of applications, and it already works on Linux.
Sure it does. You've just got to somehow manage to fit the entire Internet in the bag with the cat.
Perhaps some sort of Visual Basic GUI?
Don't they already demand royalties for recordings whether they own the rights or not?

So turn on iGoogle, and display all the extra info that you want on your homepage...

The distinction being, I suppose, that Windows will let you use the upgrade from XP in addition to Vista.
I thought one of the main benefits of E-Ink is that it needs no power to maintain the display state...

Why bother when you have a legion of idiots willing to do it for free?
The prohibition of "I see what you did there" follow-ups?
