There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies.

The first method is far more difficult.

I get the magazine and did read TFA, and it had a sidebar section about dirty bombs. If you click on the link in the post, scroll down and take a look at the "Dirty Destruction" link.

Personally, I use TightVNC (http://www.tightvnc.com), but VNC is definitely a great way to go. Then, there is no lugging of anything. As long as you're plugged in to the network, you can work on a machine as if you were sitting at it. Another point to mention...VNC is cross platform, so this solution applies to Windows and *NIX boxes. With Windows machines, there is only one "display", so if you're connected with VNC, the user can't continue to work while you're connected...they see you moving the mouse and typing. But, you can start a VNC service on a Linux box on a separate display and have a totally separate desktop going without interrupting. See the VNC documentation/man pages for instructions.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not arguing scale of markets. I agree...you go where the money is and the bigger market for game developers is Windows-using customers. All I'm trying to say is that there is a market and, although small, could still be profitable. By the way, you sort of lost me in your marketing example, but for some reason I have a strange desire to use deodorant that is strong enough for a man, but PH balanced for a woman. :)

How am I supposed to buy a Linux version of a game if one isn't produced? Chicken or the egg? I think the community of gamers that work on fixes, WINE, emulation, etc. to configure games to run on Linux should be an indication that there is a demand there. If someone would go to that much trouble to play a game on Linux as opposed to clicking "install" on Win, it represents a strong desire (at least for a certain community) for gaming on Linux.

I think this is a much bigger step than what it is being given credit for at first glance. It looks like the default desktop environment is Gnome instead of KDE. I, for one, am extremely happy to see that.

Even just a little? I clicked over to the Google site to read about it, and the samples and screen shots of addresses were troubling. It seems like there would be a lot of opportunity to use this power of instant-knowledge-about-anyone for evil as opposed to good. Granted, I know that you could perform the same query at home. But, I'm more worried about the "heat of the moment" type decisions that would lead someone to want a person's address immediately.
