Most scars from lightsabers now result in the loss of limbs and/or other LEBOoETO (Life Enabling Biological Organs of ExtraTerrestrial Origin). We have strived hard to maintain safe Jedi Training Environment, and can now report that most Jedi are not only scarred, but scared as well!

If the keyword thing was enforced by levying fines, then search engines could filter all those sites out with filters easily. Hell i might even use it. :)

Competetion is good, and Skype + Google could be a great low cost tool in Googles portfolio. I mean blogs were supposed to take over the world right? Well, some blogs are really good, but they are few and far between. I say if a group (like one im in) can hold a *real* irc room together on freenode and post blog entries about space at our leisure we are richer (not rich as in money...but richer in working together, and learning etc) for it.
If a person loves what thier hobby/interest is/are, and if they have dedication for years of posting things that recieve very little hits, in the name of getting a bigger story out, then they should do it.
Blogs are easy to start and hard to make good, imvho, and we have been trying for 2 years now.... But that is a-okay because we understand that making a living of off some uberblog is a stupid pipe dream.

  10. CreativeCommons is based on Copyright Law! on Music Industry 'trying to hijack EU data laws' · · Score: 5, Interesting

Copyright infringement should be an offense punishable by law. Even Creative Commons relies on the basic idea of Copyright. Read this from the Collective Commons Legal Text:

"License THE WORK (AS DEFINED BELOW) IS PROVIDED UNDER THE TERMS OF THIS CREATIVE COMMONS PUBLIC LICENSE ("CCPL" OR "LICENSE"). THE WORK IS PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT AND/OR OTHER APPLICABLE LAW. ANY USE OF THE WORK OTHER THAN AS AUTHORIZED UNDER THIS LICENSE OR COPYRIGHT LAW IS PROHIBITED. BY EXERCISING ANY RIGHTS TO THE WORK PROVIDED HERE, YOU ACCEPT AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS LICENSE. THE LICENSOR GRANTS YOU THE RIGHTS CONTAINED HERE IN CONSIDERATION OF YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF SUCH TERMS AND CONDITIONS. "

So even Creative Commons is bound by the idea of Copyright Law.

This is not a bad thing
What is the bad is abuse of Copyright law on both sides.
Either record labels are going to have to get a clue about the digital universe that is expanding and growing around us, or continue to persue Draconian methods of enforcement, and strict Copyright legalities on thier IP.
If they do so, i imagine that the online world will continue its move in another direction, that being more Creative Commons artists, and contributers across a wide spectrum.Releasing works under lisences with terms that we can sleep with at night.
So undermining Copyright law is not a good idea. What is is releasing works that don't punish the consumer/listener for wanting to share.
Thats the labels problem. Not ours.

    IANAL,

Sony may have a black eye over this, but in the end they are gonna win. In fact all the big media conflagrations are going to win.. Its not because their music is better, its because the minute they hear something open and interesting they just copy it, change it around and feed it to the million of idiots paying for their antiquated system of development (read theft). They have been stealing IP (intellectual property) for so long, that they feel they can do anything. Well not only *can* but *will*... Thats the reason you don't hear anything new out there, and the reason the song mills of Nashville, LA, and New York are busier than ever. Busy churning out shit.. Why should they reward creativity that does not fit in with their designs on control? They don't have to because they can clone any sound and any look. They not only can they do.. Thats why most of the great music is dead. They don't really need DRM, they already have a version of it far superior.. that being total A&R control.. They want minions of slave musicians.. and they have it. If i sound embittered it because I am, but not for the most obvious reasons. although they all are valid/

As a fairly lazy but extremely serious songwriter, I use creative commons quite a lot. I have not released a cd, but unlike some folks covered here, I do release my studio stuff up on the net. With creative Commons i am assured that it won't be altered, or sold commercially, or profited from. The songs can be performed by someone if they wish, but even those performances cannot be shipped and sold for profit. I like CC because it lets me set something free, but on my terms, in a way that won't affect the ability of me to maybe one day get a check for one of works..
