Trumplestiltskin needs all the help he can get. Come to think of it I was told by my GF's 14 year old that while I wasn't terminal, like her mother, just because I could board or inline skate did not make me cool anymore:(
This is just another attempt to grab more media attention. When whatever stupid thing you posted on YouTube has passed, you have to do what you can to keep the attention. Did you ever notice how many low grade trying to 'comeback' actors and musicians have ghosts and spirits in their houses today.
LOL you work the pennies into tools to use to make the still to ferment and distill the alcohol, to trade for food and possibly power a tractor, or disinfect a wound or something:)
Correct about the Gas, and Diesel. I was more thinking about the knowledge and equipment to produce Kerosene and Biodiesel. Petrol diesel and gas production require a large and intense industry, the other two can be made low tech and in small batches.
What the heck will farmer Joe want with silver ? When you need food and water cash, or precious metals suddenly take a back seat to barter and survival skills. If it is 'just' a financial bubble burst you may very well be right. If the fall is greater into civil disorder then your cash, whether precious metal or a fiat paper currency will likely be very useless. Water, medicine, firearms, kerosene, gasoline, bio diesel will all be much more valuable.
Hard to eat silver, and it makes a lousy medium to a blacksmith. You're better off with pennies and a book on how to make penicillin, gunpowder, and alcohol.
I worked in a high availability DC with UPS and numerous generators to maximize uptime. The problem or weak spot in relying on generators is fuel. We kept the max we were allowed which amounted to about 7 days. Easily remedied if the underlying structure is uncompromised. From the replies I've received here I understand that Singapore's is pretty solid.
Based on what information ? Not that I am trying to call you out but I'm genuinely interested. I'm in the western US and we've had maybe 4 hours of outage in the last 5 years and that was because of a flash flood that hit the local substation. We have redundant delivery systems to until you get to that last mile location and then we are isolated but mainly because we live out in the boondocks 30 miles or so from anything resembling a city.
Sherriff Joe wasn't crooked by my standards. Quite the opposite, he stood up for what he believed and felt was right in the face of legislation and lots of political pressure. Now I don't agree with his politics at all but I do admire his willingness to buck the system and make a stand even at the cost of his job and possible jail time for contempt. If only there were politicians with the same degree of integrity, what ever their political beliefs were the US would be a better place.
I'd think they would look for a inland location that wasn't on the ring of fire earthquake zone, have nearby volcanoes, AND subject to frequent hurricanes (typhoons?). I've never been there but is the power infrastructure of great stability ?
I would love to see museums that haven't been devastated do something of this nature as an insurance policy. Just think if could log into say, 2nd life and virtually tour the Louvre or the various Smithsonian institutions and see their complete works. It would never replace going there but would certainly be an experience, especially for those who would never get there anyways. The preservation and increased exposure of the greatest works of art in the world could be one of the most important uses of the internet. Furthering education and appreciation to a group that might never get such an opportunity otherwise.
What do they call it when you know what you are doing is wrong, a cheap shortcut or just plain stupid, but that is what your client/boss wants ? I've finished projects and received accolades for what I know was a half assed kluge that was going to cause more pain in the immediate future. It has caused me to refuse a contract extension on more than one occasion, knowing that the project manager or boss was going to move on and leave a steaming pile behind as a tribute.
I 2nd that Go Slugs. I lived on campus because I could not afford anything off campus and did not want to live like a troll on the beach. I transferred in from DVC (tinker toy tech) Jr college, a long time ago in a galaxy far away.
I can't argue with you on that fact, but I'd point out that the average US consumer happily buys a toaster that is $.10 cheaper because it is made in/assembled in China, or Malaysia or where ever the cheapest labor is from. Buy American made, do without the cheap imported crap.
There is a turnover report that is online or goes out in email following every meeting, but for those directly involved there are always questions to be asked that need direct response. Believe me as much as I want there to be a better option I've not come up with one. With the addition of vendor support staff into the mix who don't have access to in house reporting but are critical to fixes and device upgrades/replacements in progress it really becomes a sticky web of epic proportions. I'd be forever grateful if someone had a better option. As a technical support staff member I've certainly got better things to do with my time but I need to know things that are going on at the remote sites that directly effect my duties and daily schedule as well.
I don't like Facebook either but its not a monopoly, nor is it required in anyway to use the internet. Anyone could come up with the next social network thing anytime now or you can just NOT use Facebook. It isn't like an OS or a browser that is necessary for use or access to anything. Facebook or Twitter are tools of convenience and can easily be done without. If you don't like what is being said filter it out or don't use either.
Sounds like Amazon, and the Kindle Library. No matter what you search, every 7th listing is a 'Sponsored' listing, and even if you specify a particular author or absolute title, you always get 10 or 12 additional 'bonus' items listed.
Will they be banning drivers which have similar customer ratings ? I use a regular Taxi myself in the SF east bay. Easier to get and I know how much it will cost me every time. I tried Uber a couple of times and they couldn't fit 3 in a car, or there wasn't a van available.
This is quite funny because there are several British TV shows I'd love to get here in the US but can't because of licensing issues. I'd love me some Red Dwarf but can't get it here in the US. I tried to go the UKTV streaming service and could get it here is Western US because their registration process requires a valid GB mail code.
It was something AOL developed in the 80's to spread viruses and associated malware marketed under the AOL Trademark.

Hmmm but apparently it doesn't apply to wearing the hat of the CEO of a country or in advertising for said company.

Ban charter from the state. Not sure it is legal or proper but it would sure feel good.

They will still produce DRM loaded, limited life span garbage, even if they do it from renewable energy it won't matter.

Any SJSU takers ?

Does this imply I can't vigorously shake my phone without getting an embarrassing response, or that I will just have to switch hands ?
