Can a commercial proprietor actually improve the culture on a site ? I doubt it. You can do some technical fixes, several of which you apparently already have a handle on, but I am convinced the crowd that hangs here is the only way to improve interaction. Implementation of any sort of restrictive rules will just drive the core further away...
Off the top of my head I'd say STOP astro-turfing lousy commercial ads pretending to be articles, but that would likely drive down the $$$ value of the site in its' new overlords eyes and thus be an unacceptable solution.
There is a reason French is no longer recognized as the diplomatic language with any real world significance. They exist in the past and refuse to advance into the present, much less proceed into the future...
I find it hard to credit the TSA with anything. I don't believe more guns are being carried on planes, just that the TSA may have stumbled onto a few more by blind luck. Even a blind chick finds a kernel of corn now and then. That kind of statistical increase is unrealistic, more likely the TSA has finally tripped over a search procedure that works, or maybe even hire 2 or 3 competent workers which would account for the increase.
There are way more spots with electric chargers than there are with gas pumps. Let these self-entitled whiners pay for their own electricity just like the rest of us are responsible for our own gas costs...
Why would you share that link ? The point is YOU wanted a personalized experience. If am going to have to see ads, and on a lot of sites I accept that fact, I'd just as soon see ads in which I might be the slightest bit interested. I am for sure not interested in seeing ads for feminine products or other such items like I do know following my GF's use of my computer. I can honestly say I have never clicked through an ad in my lifetime, but I HAVE seen things which have compelled me to go to a site and check something out.

Personally I don't see a problem if you wanted play cards as long as it didn't distract me from the movie. As for life assistance I don't recall giving any of that either, I am hardly they proper source for that, it would be like the kettle trying to remake the pot. As for Linux distros I use a BSD as a firewall and a Ubuntu for a media server but my regular laptop I use windows 7 for directX games. I have not been all that happy with the Ubuntu though, so in the spirit of your post I'll ask you what distro YOU use. Note : I am too lazy to deal with constantly changing wine. Now onto boats, the only thing I know is they are VERY expensive to maintain, as is consistently said, a boat is a hole in the water in which to throw money. BofA's viper system is really bad. I called both the bank and cardholder services, as well as opened a Lloyd's of London account and still encountered several refusals, having to call and confirm the note that I had already left with specific itinerary. I just started using my Amex and had no issues from that point on. What is the saddest is that after having returned home BofA refused a local charge because the previous charges had been in GB. They were quick to correct the issues when I did contact them though, and getting ahold of a customer service rep was fast and easy.
LOL no, if I find you do interfere I'd just complain to the theatre folks and they will throw you out, the same way they do to guy in front who won't stop talking to his companion. I am in the theater to watch the movie as with most other people, if you can't restrain yourself for 2+ hours then you need to stay at home and watch on Netflix...

These companies already know that a computer savvy user won't touch their junk with a 10 ft. pole, while the average Joe doesn't seem to care. You could say the average user today is akin to the Indians, will trade away things they don't fully understand like privacy and personal info for a few virtual beads and trinkets.

What about insurance liability and safety ? Taxi's are regularly inspected and required to have more insurance to cover passengers. I am not sure about Uber cars in my area, as I've never actually used one.

Windows is much the same, prior to M$ windows, if you can remember back that far referred to a virtual window on an IBM mainframe, but M$ failed to vigorously defend the term and it became an industry wide term used by all.
Either regulate UBER just like you would the competing service, in this case a Taxi service, or DON'T regulate the taxi service and let them openly compete with UBER. After having ridden in a cabs frequently, on a regular schedule I worked out a deal with the drivers myself and was never disappointed, as I headed out the door at 06:30 every morning to find one waiting at the end of my drive way.

Where I live in the SF Bay area there are bike lanes on nearly every street, excluding the freeways which are off limits anyways, the problem is the bikes won't stick to one medium. They go from Peds on the side-walk, to bikes in the protected space, to deciding to share the space my car is CURRENTLY occupying within 30 feet without a pause or even a look many times. I like riding my bike, and if my employer would provide a shower, and someplace to put my bike I would ride often, but bikes need to either observe the same rules of the road constantly or get off the road into protected lanes, and the rules need to be enforced...
I recently flew from Phoenix wedged between to women who both weighed close to 300 lbs. if they weighed a pound. I couldn't get my elbows un-wedged from my ribs for 2 days following the flight. I can see being embarrassed if you weigh that much and still can't see over the top of the seat, but why should I be forced to suffer the invasion of the seat I pay for because of someone else's' health/size issues ?

Cloud computing used to refer to a developing technology that allowed a virtual work environments to be cobbled together from varied technologies and hardware platforms. Then suddenly storing data in someone else's server farm or data center was putting your stuff in "the cloud" and any true meaning was lost under the avalanche of marketing and salesmanship.
