For $299 I can buy an M$XP pro, an OS that runs, maybe buggy, but runs 95.98 % of the software out there, on market standard hardware, maybe it is not the developers choice, but maybe it is, OR I can spend $499 for OSX 10.3 which runs , quite well I might add, a hefty, let's be generous, 15% of the commercial software out there, on proprietary hardware....I fail to see how one is always a bad buy, and if so, I'd have to say Apple was the poor investment based on their back level support or lack thereof for old hardware.
WOW that M$ company is really GOOD, they are issuing patches that break other companies products THROUGH other companies...Wonder how apple feels about that idea, or maybe they thing it is as ludicrous as I do.....I think there is a place for both OS's, the problem is there is not a place for the FANATIC zealots, be it OSX, Linux, or M$. A fanatic is scary period....
The truth is there, 95% of all albums sold 'don't make any money' by the time it gets down to the artist its all gone....sucked up by middle men, administrative costs, and of course the great one, Advertising dollars....
THE RIAA both blows and sucks at the same time, the ONLY thing of value about it...a curiousity.
Will rock for 2 seasons then go down hill until there is NO story or point just useless sylistic anime.. much like Jack is now. Dexter is crap these days as well sadly. I really hope this is good and plan on watching but it won't last.
in cop cars for a long time here, and fire engines/ambulances, but ours have NEVER switched a light, the ONLY thing ours would do was extend the yellow, and prevent the opposing traffic from turning green. Even with that limited ability it plays havoc on the traffic flow and on a regular basis they had to sync the lights back to the timers down-town or traffic would gridlock. Thinking about it though once the system for over-ride is in place the means to abuse it are there as well:) reminds me of the RDS bandits:)
as long as it is downloaded to their machine and not mine it is not my problem....honestly, and I am NOT ADVOCATING KIDDIE PORN, but is viewing it illegal or just producing it, selling or commercially distributing ?
you mean the non denominational consumer holiday shopping season that happens in December ? No my company hasn't had any bonuses associated with it since legal made us stop wishing people a merry christmas for fear of offending. Now a few people mumble happy holidays and most just pretend that nothing is happening....
How many soldiers will fire on their own familes ? Granted the Marines don't seem to discriminate but I really think there would be some fall out say sending the 8th army into Ohio, though I have no doubt they'd kick the crap out of the state guard, but what if the governor of the state called up the state milita and opposed the federal troops, are we even prepared to ensure that we aren't sending boys from Ohio back their to kill their cousins ?
what is the point of massive public wirelesss if none of the companies allow interconnect. Europe has always been ahead of the US in corp sharing, their governments demand it. Here our's forbids it:) Heck I still cant sms people half the people becuase they are on a different service, that only support their own system. The upside is we do not adopt early so sometimes we get a better transport method when the LAME ass companies suddenly discover that there is money to be made in a market they have been denying for 5 years....
and generate waves anyway they can. Lets face it, most shee^H^H^H people don't even understand half the news they see, just the names stick, it is getting to the point where there IS NO BAD PUBLICITY, a double murder, just apply the proper spin, donate to a 'news' organization, and viola its free advertisment. With an attention span slightly under 25.5 seconds ask someone what the best movie they've ever seen, and it will be from the last 6 months. Funny but a list the 100 best horror movies of all time was just published and 95 of them were from 1989 and forward ?? The US public has ADD as a whole and the everyone in charge really likes it that way....hard to hold anyone responsible for anything when most folks wake up to a new world every 4 days.... BTW LOOK OVER THERE *the quick switch* and a blank innocent look...
of Dec's old Alta Vista engine/portal. Anyone debate Netscape added value as a portal, read staged advertisment site and information collecting point ?!?! I did a search the other day on a specific company name and product with model number, which matched the EXACT TEXT on the companies' web page. The results in the top 20 were ALL 'sponsored' resellers or aftermarket sites while the one with the 23 character exact text match was on page 3. Results like that I can get from Yahoo, or any other ad service masquerading as a search engine. I basically gave up on google when they updated the google tool bar and altered my system prefs with out even a by your leave. My employer blocked google as a result of their new toolbars repeated attempts to connect thru the firewall and relay personally identifiable data including machine names and addresses out while loading ads in on the local machine.
but I think it is a symptom of the declining quality of whats offered on TV. When the networks are showing 12 hours of programming in a 24 hour period, claiming that showing the same movie for three nights in a row is a BONUS FEATURE instead of a cop-out, when rather than expand programming the US networks add a new stations, dividing the limited pool of original or new material while reaping the benefits of the only true addition, more commercial time to sell to the sponsors. Rather than take advantage of the digital revolution to vary content and provide more, the networks choose to try and re-hash the VHS is going to end the world as we know it argument and seek legal protection for their outdated, unprofitable business plan thru payed legislation, misinformation, outright lies and deception. What do they expect ?
No arguments hear, even calling gates a coder is a stretch, that's like calling DOS an enterprise ready OS. What we need is established consistency in the way things are handled, instead of a new stack and response for every bloody call. Even if I knew that calls were vulnerable I could then begin to address the situation as a whole, ie comprehensive firewalls, code staging servers, review and testing of patches prior to application, instead of dealing with every new issue as a discrete problem, when it is really the methodology at fault... BG's use of 2003 server as a comparision is ludicrous, it has not EVEN BEEN RELEASED to the public, and they are claiming an increase of a factor of 10 ?!?! Heck if I didn't release code in the wild it would be really secure too. I speak as one who has seen 2 alphas and several beta version of 2k3, they are getting better, given another 10 years or so they might be stable, solid and reliable, say like a 30 year old UNIX code base:) BTW as for patches from winupdate, can I suggest using the redisributable downloads and staging them locally. I personally don't apply any patch from M$ without research, and a test machine...too many times a SP or patch has broken some other application, usually a M$ one:(
Perfect code is a myth, like extra money, or a temporary tax. What we really need is consistency between the calls, internal (local) or external (web) in the way the buffer is handled and access controls that make sense. At least on the M$ side they still have not recovered from the code mangling idiocy with MSIE and Explorer co-mingling.
needs to be notified in some way. As to legal or illegal, while I agree emotionally with you:) the 'proper' method would be contact the ISP and let them deal with the infected user/node. At some point though you are correct, the negligence has to transfer, even the dumbest driver is responsible for air in the tires and gas in the tank, and either they learn to deal with it or they hire a service to handle it for them. Maybe we need a driver's license for the Net ? as silly as it sounds it would ensure some basic level of knowledge and responsibility.
so you hacking a computer that is infected is OK ?
Sorry, that is just as wrong and illegal. Getting the infected comp yanked of the net is one thing but making unauthorized changes, what-ever your intent is just as bad as the original person who spread the virus. Now if say your ISP were to have you sign an agreement giving them the right to preserve the network stability by making local host changes, you would be covered, and MORE POWER TO YA, but as it stands now most ISP's have only one recourse and that is drop you off-line...
has been in use in california for about 10 years now, GPS locator, engine kill switch, road-side assistance, etc...
BTW wether you pay for it or not EVERY CADDILAC has an active monitoring system running. Some friends had a new caddy but opted not to pay for the northstar system, while trying to find parking at a resturant in Vegas they went around the block like 8 times, the northstar operator came on and asked if they needed asistance, she was very helpful and polite but needless to say they were disturbed to find that their location data was being tracked anyways, and further it is being stored as aggregate data, but their unique vehicle id number is associated with this data, and the fact that they are not paying for the service means they have no ability to opt out, and Caddilac stated that the system was tied into the airbags, and anti theft system, so removal or alteration would void warranty, and likely disable airbags and such....
everytime the little jewel of my loins looses his rfid tag ? We have a record going on jackets now, 3 this year, am considering padlocking his current one to him:) I pay my taxes for school, then buy "uniforms", then special books, and then lunch, because lets face it would you eat what they serve, I went to school one day and I couldn't, so the bottom line is gonna be an increase in my cost rather than expect the teachers to learn to identify the students in their classes ?!?! I take responsibility for my child, his learning and upbringing, actively participate in his schooling, provide rides and assitance to a soccer team and all the children who's parents don't or can't, and I expect the teachers to DO THE SAME. I don't expect them to raise my children but they DO have the RESPONSIBILITY to NOTICE if they aren't in class and notify the parents, I will go from there.
be the influential people would they....love circular logic, I say let those willing to sell their freedom do so. The best solution is to just steal an identity, get one of these cards in that name and enjoy the benefits:)
How is this gonna stop SPAM ?!?! 85% of it, *pulls figure from his colon* is coming thru pirated unsecured servers, how is this gonna address someone compromising a so-called trusted host and flooding the isolated starving little "protected" part of the web. How many customers, business and vendors will they screw, and AT&T is gonna manage this mail list in real-time without heinous errors and then continue to keep a list active, follow up on wether hosts have retired ? NOT BLOODY LIKELY...I forsee this crumbling under the weight of the administration process, but we all know AT&T is still living in the 1920's anyways...
err Myth ?? Several cell phones have caught on fire due to bad batteries they claim, but whatever the source, if you are pumping gas and the backflow system is not functioning properly AND your cell phone bursts into flames you could go Booom. I will likely win CA's 94 million dollar lottery tonight first but...
new protocol with user determinable root servers ? We've all seen the technical and administrative expertise of the current ahhh ummm gathering of people. The companies need to realize that for the most part the reason they want on is because of all the people, drive away the people and what good is the net for comercial use ? The net is like quicksilver, the harder you squeeze the more it slips from your fingers...
Or I could GET THE PRICE FROM APPLES site and let people who know NOT what they speak off look like idjits ?
:)

I realize that looking b4 posting is not Kosher here but you should try it sometimes

can opt out of that one as well...I agree you should not have to but call them and BIATCH and they will stop it...
really ?!?! I missed that part, I take back part of what I said then, sorry.

is that 40,000 real users or just 4000, with 40x cdrom drives installed ? :)
