I am sure it is possible but there is NO WAY that a laptop screen can begin to compare to my 22" CRT at.23 pitch for clarity and refresh rate. I've got a nice laptop as well and I play Diablo2 on it when I am traveling, but the video is screen display is VERY 2nd rate compared to adecent CRT. Someday LCD will catch up for games and then there will be no difference but there is a noticable one now. Not that it stops me from playing but when I want to really play I plug in a real monitor and mouse:)
and a notebook mouse, but both are easily remedied. What I wonder is by the time a notebook gets to be capable won't Ultra Uber Mega Small Form Factor PC's fit in my shirt pocket ? With serial ATA coming, and thinner wafers how long before the concept of a laptop is outdated ?
actually not on the payroll, then I'd have to agree with you, but how long has it been since any regulatory commision actually made a decision in favor of the customer instead of the large corporation ? Arbitration and regulatory commisions are just tools so the corporation can screw you over and then get a say in how much the fine should be...
BTW everyone I know has the numbers programmed in anyways, so switching is a one time thing, tho business cards do add expense and hassle... and if the customer loss rate was significant NO OTHER company would try anything that stupid, and would probably do the opposite to try and lure customers away from V.
Just as I did with MCI today, leave them and vote with you $$'s. MCI raised rates to attempt to recover some of the billions lost due to the WorldCom fiasco. Well and good for MCI it is their right to do so, but it is also my right as a consumer to choose not to be a victim. Tell Verizon how you feel in the ONLY manner which has ANY effect, with your $$'s. When you transfer make sure to tell them it is in direct response to their decision to attempt to market personal information without regard to my desires. I am kind of curious how a large corporation would view this item, anyone in the telecom area of a fortune 500 company out there ????
If you start early enough you can convince someone pain IS PLEASURE, or shit is caviar. Thank-you Mr MediaMogul for that wholesome snack, may I have another ?
cynical about ATI at the moment so it tends to skew my perspective. I'd hardly consider this one "long time dream of software developers" likely to toppple the video card industry. Even if ATI hardware supports every single bloody DX9 feature, if their LOUSY drivers won't run it is a glorified heater. Here's to ATI getting their shit together and driving Nvidia and the market to really put out some high class video cards.
Yeah, the same features implemented under ATI are documented but guess what...They will WORK for Nvidia, and they DON'T NOW for ATI.....
ATI support is about the worst I've ever had the misfortune to need to deal with. The actually make M$ support look forthcoming and really eager to please. 4 rev's of ATI's so called catalyst drivers and things are actually sort of stable, but a slew of games won't run under the 9700pro, for example M$ CFS3 does not recognize the driver set up. If you are thinking about buying a video card I suggest as someone who has a Radeon 9700pro and a nvidia 460, I'd get a cheap GF3 or 4200 and wait and see the NV30. Unless you have money to just burn, ATI has dissapointed again, and they've not corrected any of this All in One Wonder driver issues either....
bet you can't...bet Luke, Han, Solo, Princess and a whole slew of other words are reserved to avoid anyone impinging on George Lucas's domain and invoking a $tar War...
someone whose been burned before. The media must be stored offsite in a dark temp. controlled vault, media deteriorates so long term backups must be re-written to NEW media every 12-24 months according to vendor specs, and if the data is important you need to keep MULTIPLE generations on NEW media, and periodically PERFORM A RESTORE to verify readability and the fact that you are actually capturing what you think you are. If you are a linux/unix environment you are blessed with ufsdump, otherwise welcome to 3rd party HELL. Aix even has a bootable recovery image...mksysb i think
We've got BART here in the bay area which is an abject failure, and the Cal train which loses billions every year. Mass transit only works in very tight city area's. People in spread out urban areas will not put up with the enormous delays and the added time on their day, nor is it cheaper anymore to ride bart to SF vs paying for Gas and parking. I just love paying for idiot politicians' pipe dreams.
value they CAN offer. It is more about identifying wants, but you are weak willed enough to be manipulated into buying things you don't need or want, well then not much can be done for you...
On the other hand think of it as the company ACTUALLY working to try and find somthing you LIKE and MIGHT WANT, if not need. This harkens back to old school mercantilism, when a merchant had to make choices of what to offer to whom, and tailored their stock to customers tastes and desires based on their knowledge of the customer, because space, weight and supply was a huge problem.
but even though they swore I was in a fully covered area I could not EVER get or make a call from my house in the middle of the so-called coverage area. 4 phones later they refunded my years bill and I moved to nextel without a problem. The phones still suck, but the radio coverage works at my house at least, which is the minimum so work can reach me.
..Touch screens severely limits the life span of the device, especially in a high use area. Unless they can make it a 'cost neutral' (gotta love my PCease eh) option I don't see it getting adopted any time soon. The corporate desktop market is VERY TIGHT $$ wise. The industry standard is 3 years of use I believe, and to get that from a touch screen seems a bit optimistic to say the least.
It is obvious HE HAD some expectation of return, maybe not monetary but somthing or else he would not be here BIATCHIN' Chalk it up to a lesson learned the hard way and remember one thing, FRIENDS DON'T have INC. after their names. As to hurting for money or not I am SURE there are better charities than a former employer, if that is the issue take a decent wage and donate it to a charity that might actually help someone.
I don't know about you, but If someone on WINMX is DL from me and they have nothing to share I cancel them. The only exception is 56k or lower connects that take very little bandwidth from me. Realistically you can't expect a decent upload from a 56k line so I am willing to cut them some slack. But if you pull more than a few k/sec from me and don't have things offered you will get canceled. Lots of people are like that.
We all know that the average human is one step above a herd animal, that bells and whistles sell much better than reliablity and dependability. The computer monitor is too closely linked with the TV screeen and people have a blind spot ( induced or programmed) with normal truth/veracity verification of things presented via TV. Thanks network advertisers and broadcasters for years of social conditioning, and our government for failing to look out for consumers rights while ensuring profit models for large business's.
NO ONE actually believes anything these sites say. They will sell their grandmothers organs for a dime, and we know that if they are violating their policies left and right, nothing will happen. Even if the company says no, as soon as they switch hands or go under that potential capital will be utilized one way or another. The key is successfull obsfuscation on the client side. You can't avoid footprints, so leave HUGE one in clown shoes all over the place, in different ID's.
US is even worse than that, the average Adsl line is actually 384/128 with about 15% missing from that for overhead. If the subscribers are on a contract, and the company has altered their access during said contract period you might have a case, otherwise, time to switch ISP's. One point I always look for is unlimited transfer. If they apply a cap it is NOT unlimited always on access. But of course here in Wonderful America, the truth in advertising APPLIES ONLY to the printed sections, the ones that flash by so small no one could possibly read them, All the announcer hype and BS they SHOW has no validity and is not required to be true. In effect it lets the ISP "say unlimited use, always on, and advertise their connection for blazing fast downloads of MP3, while actually not allowing the applications needed to access those MP3s, and restricting bandwidth which in turns restricts everything else. I have a 768 SDSL connect on a business class line. If they tried to tell me I could not have synchronous 768 24 hours a day 7 days a week I'd drop them so fast. I guess if you really want what you pay for you have go SOHO or business connection, otherwise you are just a cash cow to be milked by large ISP who actually hopes you drop dead the day after paying your next ISP bill.

we get our choice of 3 or 4 here luckily, even astound cable offers phone service so yes it is nice to have a choice.

actually that is a really good idea, provided you don't need 24hr access to the data.

LOL, I was thinking along that lines myself...
Long term customer value = how much money we can squeeze from a customer in their lifetime.
Long term value != a product that the customer derives value from for an extended period.
anyone know a good source for internal cables ? I want some really short round ide cables, like 6", but the shortest I can seem to find is 10 to 12...
