I spent my first year in the dorms. Life was hell and the school did MUCH to make it worse. When I left and moved off campus to a nice apartment, school became so much better. On campus students are NOT people, they are CA$H cows to be milked for as much as possible. I picked up a room mate and the cost was not much more the I was paying to the school.
LOL and let me guess you own a VW too.... When your computer becomes and "experience", you've become a consumer and your input is NO LONGER VALID sorry. I am glad you enjoy your hardware but leave off the experinece and emotional crap and give us facts....
LOL, well said. I did the same thing last week to my aplpha:) The question is now, do the Linux zealots who spent so much time laughing at IIs admins actually keep up on THEIR patches. One of the places the Linux world seemed so far advanced was virus protection. If that goes away what will be the incentive to get of the M$'s of the world ?
and we use Jabber in house like mad to bridge all the other protocols. With Jabber I can ICQ, AIM, Yahoo all acrossed a validated http proxy. In house we also use Lotus Sametime, which IMHO SUCKS horribly compared to any of the other clients.
Any place I can look for some doc on that issue ? We are migrating from our Alphas to dual P4's and seeing a serious drop in performance that should not exist:( The fingers have all been pointed at software optimization and we are doing some heavy duty examinations but it sounds all too pat to me...
I saw the note on his page about not being with HP anymore at least a week ago I think. More power to him....HP/CPQ service sucks, thier field tech's are some of the least trained, most clueless workers I've ever had to let in my lab. I refuse to allow the HP desktop guys to even touch our stuff unless they are going to blackbox the entire unit, otherwise we force them to leave us parts and pick up spares.
I've got an mp3 player that is flashable. I will happily switch to OV as soon as I can. I have both formats now, and play vorbis via winamp with no real problems. But for the day you are correct.
If there is a cost on the MP3 decoder I would assume that going forward they would drop the license for it and proceed with the OGG only ? I wonder if the cost savings is worth the effort to rewrite all my music ?
I try never to be a consumer, after I purchase I am a pontential future customer, with a relationship based on mutual satisfaction, as well as one of the best or worst possible advertisments for said company or product. A consumer implies blind consumptiobn regardless of content. It is my belief that the RIAA has engendered a generation of consumers who take what is delivered, and keep taking, hence the huge mp3 pirating issue. Customers and citizens don't steal but ensure there is a fair trade of services or goods for cost. A semantic issue I agree but an important distinction I think.
I prefer customer but I FULLY support the difference. A consumer takes what is shoveled thier way and does not ask questions. A Customer/Citizen makes a decision to support a product/manufacturer in a responsible concious manner.
"Jodie Cadiuex, marketing manager of Windows Media Center, defends Microsoft's decision to copy protect TV programs recorded to the PC's hard drive.
"Microsoft is in a leadership position here where we've got an opportunity to help Hollywood feel comfortable with digital distribution and to help them develop (digital rights management) solutions so consumers can have content everywhere," she said. "We have two relationships we have to balance here: the consumer who wants the content and Hollywood so they feel comfortable with that process and don't clamp down and make that impossible."
How many systems does hollywood buy and how much of your bottom line do they supply ?? Make hollywood happy and Fark the consumers and see how many boxes sell... Fark hollywood and make the consumer happy and hollywood WILL STILL produce movies for whatever system is out there, they have no choice..either that or close shop ?!? It is so obvious that they are depending on the government forcing the use of the DRM that they are willing to bet AGAINST their own customer base...Last time I saw somthing like this was IBM and MicroChannel Bus, they had such great success there I can see why M$ would be anxious to copy them...
they want whats best for their pocketbook, rightly so. As soon as we as customers convince them, which IS best, I am sure they will blow with the financial wind. The real problem is 'consumer' apathy, as long as a company can make a good profit shoveling shit down consumers' throats why should they try any harder ? When we make a the fall-out of a poor decision regarding customer rights a large financial hit things will shape up.
they just need to start using the metamoderation data they collect and apply it to your moderation total. If your moderations get overturned you should suffer a karmic hit. Not a perfect system but a double check at least. It would add value to meta moderation.
look at DVD's...provide so much material that it is more work pirating than it is to buy. Why does a DVD cost the SAME as a CD ? Last time I checked a movie was SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive to produce than a ALBUM, and yet DVD's sell for the same or LESS, and quite often contain the BLOODY soundtrack as well. If a CD included multimedia stuff, editing room floor tracks, useless bio info and oodles of extra crap at a reasonable price it will be more trouble to rip it than it would be to buy it. When the RIAA wakes up and realizes that, maybe, just maybe things will turn around, otherwise, one way or another the industry is dead. The MPAA is actually beginning to come around, slowly and not without a FIGHT, but they are evolving. I don't hold out the same hope for the record industry.
why is this flamebait, He/she brings up valid points. I beleive the system is valid, but there ARE ISSUES with Karma and the moderation system, as evidenced by a thorough test on slashdot. Rather than scrap the system I'd like to see some constructive idea's on how to fine tune it...
the chemistry behind this is basic and proven. There are numerous saftey issues inherent in the process and there is not enough doc on the site to see if this is a new and valid application of the process or a 'snake-oil' sales oppurtunity.
ok i got ammend that too, I went for a walk thru the Mini computer area and found numerous VMS boxes still in use as well. 8 bit SCSI arrays and all but lots of storage works stuff about as well.

could we get someone with something worth saying to host it. Cringly is a meathead.

if not it seems like a really good idea...

Shiat like this make that starving African countries' leader seem VERY SMART.
the adult swim segment is the only part I watch...
and even that has been getting goofy lately.

I love my Alpha !!! :)
I've got it running Deb currently..wish I had a use for it

Much better pay, equipment and training in the private sector in my experience. Will be interesting seeing some other reactions.
