Star(Wing|Fox) on N64 was the worst.

Just Let Me Play!

Does anyone else remember this game's ridiculously hard to reach multiplayer modes?
There were 3 battle modes - with the players either in Spaceships, tanks or on foot, of which only the spaceships version was available to start with.
As I recall you had to complete every level on hard mode and earn a medal, just to unlock the tanks game, and to get the £rd person shooter game to unlock, you needed to get 100% on every level.
I only knew one person who unlocked the tank mode, and noone I knew ever got to play the 3rd person shooter mode.
1st of all, the Mac mini isn't fanless.
Any fanless machine is a less than ideal server, as drives running 24/7 require active cooling to be reliable.
The best (and pretty much only) low cost home video server is an older pc in a nice big expandable case, with room for 4+ pata|sata drives, decent cooling and room for a hardware raid 5 card (preferably 3ware).
Apple charge $6000 for a 4x250GB Xserve raid.
From a laypersons viewpoint:
Q:Does it play Games?
A:No, at least none of the latest ones.
Thats more important to any (male at least) kid I've ever known than the size of the box.
My PC takes up zero space on my desk anyway because its on the floor.
As for storage space - who are you kidding? People download several Gigs of Movies & music in a day. 10 Gigs is only about 10 movies.
Companies like monsanto are developing seeds that when grown will produce grains/seeds not capable of growing.
No seed can be reused, & the farmer is tied to the seed supplier for good.
I have one of the Kiss players ( the one with wireless ethernet, DP 1500) and can confirm it plays vobs directly over the network.
I have had no problems getting it to work with 75% of the divx files I have downloaded.
Has anyone considered the problem that this service will clog up the bandwidth normally used for filesharing, streaming video & audio, & downloading Distros etc?
In the UK, with a 1MB downpipe, downloading 1 movie would use around 1/4 of available bandwidth for a day.
Why are people having classes till 10 or 11 in the PM. Do you guys just not like the thought of getting up before nightfall, or do you have daylight hours at strange times where you are?
Unless this is night school or something similar, that is.
From memory, I've never had a lecture run past 6pm, when you seem to be starting.
How much longer do you think it'll be until more servers are located outside the US than inside?
Europe does have a far larger population than North America, as does Asia. I suspect in a few years time it would be the US that suffers more from being cut off, than the rest of the world.
That is, apart from the fact that they all speak foreign.
The main racing mode is far better than MK64. They've tightened up the power slides nicely, I'd still rather have the simpler set-up from the SNES game tho'. I hate not having a hop, and they've also removed the secret way to recover from banana skins, by stabbing the brake button just after you hit them.
You still have the problem with the computer racers cheating;
Each tournament, it seems one pair of racers is deified and can stay right behind you all race, every race. Theres also the auto-handicapping problem with power-ups; if you are a long way behind you get gifted lightings, mushrooms & stars like mad, whilst if you are doing well you get crap.
Thw biggest problem with MKDD is the lack of decent battle arenas. They are all too small for tactics to really come into play. Give me block fort, or any of the SNES levels please.
Well, its not really correct to say that Britain works in Imperial measurements. Certainly for road trips & other long journeys everyone would use miles. But everything else now pretty much has to be metric, thanks to our EU overlords.
Shopkeepers have even been fined for selling bananas by the pound instead of kg.
We also commonly measure peoples weight in Imperial measures - Stones & pounds, except for the medical profession. I personally don't have much
And then theres pints - Milk & Beer( in pubs) come in pints, most everything else comes in litres and ml. Metric measurements are exclusively taught in schools in the UK nowadays, & I'm sure we will go metric eventually (but probably 50 years from now).
I don't have a clue about the old Imperial weights & measures other than the ones I've mentioned, and I'd never use them unless I had to.
I can't agrre more, I think the best pad so far was the N64 one.
For me, the gamecube pad is just too small, and the buttons are neither numerous or uniform enough for, say, fighting games.
The dual shock 2 has grown on me, and for timesplitters the dual analogue pads are fantastic (not as good as a mouse, but when everyone you are playing is in the same boat, it doesn't matter).

It's a British Site, hardly anyone here uses Macs ( I personally know no mc users). The famously claimed 5% marketshare is only for the USA.
What are you smoking?
A Pentium-M is a huge amount faster than a G4, and faster than a G5 also at many tasks.
The G4 is a Joke, and is currently a good 2 generations behind current x86 tech.
"videogaming, *generally*, intel is better,"
Thats bullshit, AMD smokes Intel for gaming and has done for a few years.
Doom 3 on Power Mac Dual 2.5 = 47 fps
Doom 3 on Intel p4 3.4 = 150 fps
Doom 3 on AMD Athlon64 4000+ = 200 fps
All with the same graphics card @ 640x480
Hilarious.
You are smoking crack-
All Apple laptops have piss poor battery life compared to modern Pentium M laptops.
The Pentium M is so much faster than a G4 its embarrassing.
Did you really just refer to computers as "CPUs"?
Thats funny, coming from a sysadmin.

Apple do little for the open source community, and activly harm it by propogating their pointless proprietary codecs for everything.
Look at iTunes - The only way to produce Apple Lossless encoded files, & a complete refusal to support FLAC.

How exactly do you fit 1.3 Terabytes of photos on a Powermac, when they only support 2 hard drives?
WHats even funnier, is that the next day Poland announced they were to start pulling out troops with immediate effect.

Yep,
But can you explain why the Aussies call us Poms ?
Can't think of any explanation.
Stupid bunch of convicts.

Can you remind me why you call us English Poms.
During England's recent victorious Rugby World CUp campaign, I heard the term alot.
Till we beat you in the final.
AH, I see, you mean stroking don't you.

Are you aware that there are Laserdisc rips converted to DVD format of these films floating around on the internet?
This was done at least 6 months ago I believe.
