Not having a degree != being dumb, as is having a degree != being smart. This is one convenient way to provide knowledge to people. Those that really want a piece of paper for proof can always do official exams.
First thing I get here is the famous "Nothing to see here, move along." message. I hope that's not going to be the default when looking for intelligent videos on the net.:-P
I'm glad to see another opportunity to enhance knowledge on the net. Seeing more free course material (as in those of MIT) and getting more info from discussions etc. might just make it more accessible for people to gain knowledge and not hang around the tv all day because they can't afford a decent education.
Not to mention which tax office is going to do the hunting? I live in Europe, the servers are in the US, and I trade with Japanese people. Who's going to get the tax?
If we're going into bank comparisons here, I see it more like the Microsoft bank charging their customers a huge fee to handle their money, and other banks having to pay a large percentage of All their money transfers (not just transfers to and from Microsoft) to interact with the Microsoft bank. And no-one uses the other banks because their bosses and family are stuck on the Microsoft bank.
We've got two 585's running ESX right now (4 dualcores per server). When our supplier installed the system for us they told us AMD's were better for running virtual than Intel CPU's. There is a significant difference in the choice of CPU. One colleague has been setting up two comparible servers with VMware server before and he also stated it ran much faster on the AMD form HP than the Intel from Dell.
Maybe you're looking at it all wrong. You state that the disk load is high in the morning when everyone logs in with roaming profiles, which suggests to me that the roaming profiles are way too large. Depending on the Windows versions used, move the contents of the "My documents" folder to their personal network shares (give them one if they don't have any), tell them to move data in their Desktop folder to that share and only create shortcuts, maybe even create a mandatory quota limit on the clients. Check your favorite search site on "Windows reduce roaming profile size" for more tips.
Hardware: at least 3 servers running a virtual backbone like ESX/XEN, 3 portable wireless thin clients for the output of whatever virtual machine I choose (I prefer separate desktops instead of one giant desktop), a wireless network capable of enough graphic throuput to the clients CPU, GPU etc. should be able to run with passive cooling, being able to deliver performance but also to throttle back to very low power use (like VIA) when idle, flash disks that are both fast and live forever
Software: the virtual backbone must be able to run accelerated graphics and any hardware I plug into the clients or servers, in case I want to play a game or work on graphics it should be able to use 2 or 3 clients together so I'd have a wide field of view unless the program itself has cluster capabilities
Talking about streaming content, I noticed I get download links at Google video in Konqueror, but not in FF, so now I set the FF agent to Konqueror on the Windows laptop when I want to download from Google video on that one. All that embedded crap, bah.
I've been looking at different alternatives to the standard root servers and didn't like OpenDNS either as they also change DNS replies. My search ended with ORSN, a European "backup" of ICANN servers. This way I shouldn't be affected by attacks and outages on ICANN servers.
Over here people are buying blancs from Germany as well and of course there have been complaints about it. As far as I know they tried to go after the bigger buyers but that didn't work.
One thing's for sure, the organisation that took possession of blancs sold them to other parties when they should have auctioned them off by law. (seems a court case will follow)
http://tweakers.net/nieuws/45491/?highlight=belast ing (in dutch though) And then one organisation singlehandedly put a 0 euro levvy on mp3 players. Which didn't last long as the minister of Justice recalled it after other organisations complained that there had been no agreement made on a levvy.
Don't care who the target audience is, it's about the effect of ads like this, no matter what product is being sold. Right now they also use pictures from the old Star Trek series for something, but it's impossible to read the text on it without getting a good long look at it. That's something that should not be used at places where only cars come by. Do that at places where you only have pedestrians.

You'll be that Dick, I mean, that Richard? I wouldn't..

*click* Access to MySpace granted, have a nice day.
Which forum were you taking about again?
They can't get their foot in the door of the government, so now they resort to spamming?

No-no, it's, "A clean desk is the sign of a dirty mind".
What I think of could be feasable in a few years;
Hardware: at least 3 servers running a virtual backbone like ESX/XEN, 3 portable wireless thin clients for the output of whatever virtual machine I choose (I prefer separate desktops instead of one giant desktop), a wireless network capable of enough graphic throuput to the clients
CPU, GPU etc. should be able to run with passive cooling, being able to deliver performance but also to throttle back to very low power use (like VIA) when idle, flash disks that are both fast and live forever

Yeah, it's going to be fun to go to the store here in the Netherlands and ask for a couple of "prammen". (slang for hooters :-) )
[doomsday thinking]
What, you think our governments would be able to get their shit together before 2036 knowing this now?
[/doomsday thinking]
And where exactly is the Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt?

You are receiving links to a useful mediaplayer and codec, cancel or allow? :-)
(Assuming you meant a PC with Windows installed when you say PC)
It's AMD, not frigging Intel! Sheesh, what are ya, new here?
:-P
That's because Firefox has something that IE doesn't have: cool wallpapers! (warning: NSFW!)
Hey! Call me a carebear again and I'll hit you with my purse!
:-P

Get with the capitalist program dude!
:-P
I'd like to, but I just don't have the funds for that.

That's the problem, I always sucked at any game.
