So come on over and set this up for me since it's so easy.
I need a system that handles truck dispatching, gps/email communication with the trucks, mapping and route planning that knows what roads do not allow hazmat materials and which do, accounting, payroll, electronic invoicing, and document imaging all tied together so they work seamlessly.
Hook me up since it's so simple.
Oh, don't forget that all the employees will have to be trained on how to use Linux and management will have to be trained on how to create shared folders and manage documents manually.
I'll agree that Linux is a great system, but it really pisses me off when fanatics live in this fantasyland that says that Linux is a better solution in every concievable case. There are times when you use Windows, times when you use a Mac, times when you use Linux, and times when you use something totally different. (What's that code thats used in digital watches?)
Firefox crashes a lot, on w2k especially. I recommend Opera or Netscape. My whole network here at work is w2k and we've had far too many problems with firefox crashing. We'll be using w2k until the security updates stop because it is so damn stable. w2k for work, xp for home. XP crashes sometimes but I don't care cuz it's just for games at home. The only problems w2k ever gives me at work is when lightning hits or we have a power outage.
Not everyone uses Linux because not every need or application is covered by Linux. The software we use at work can only be found for windows. Linux versions do exist but they don't have anywhere near the functionality we need. I'd love to switch, but then my users wouldn't be able to do their jobs.
Don't forget...run adaware once a week. My users have user-access only and some of them manage to still get some things installed. We also use Panda AV and it's got built-in spyware protection as well.
How completely and utterly pathetic that you can compare two morons using flaming glass tubes to fight with, to people risking their lives to bring some good to this world. If you think your life is worth so little that you're willing to sacrifice it for a cheap stupid dangerous stunt instead of something as noble as helping out in Iraq then yes I AM GOING TO LAUGH MY ASS OFF AT YOU.
How is that a comparison? It's amazing how many people have fallen for the exact same marketing and hype that got Microsoft off the ground.
FF is a great browser but it certainly has more than enough problems to make it not this glorified supreme being everyone makes it out to be.
There is absolutely no reason why extensions should stop working when you go from 1.03 to 1.04. If you went from 1.03 to 1.1 then I could maybe see issues, or 1.x to 2.x definately, but come on what kind of nonsense is going on that breaks a MAJOR function from.03 to.04? Extensions are a MAJOR part of what makes FF better than IE. This isn't a minor complaint, this is like the tires falling off your car when you have a new battery installed.
Firefox 0.9 was teh roxors. I'm just gonna keep upgrading until they make it sweet like it used to be. (Or until another browser takes the good parts of FF and puts them in a stable browser.)
It's using 2 megs of ram right now. When it's active it uses 10 or so. I have 512. When it's running you can't tell. Apps run the same speed, programs open just as fast. That's not it. EVERY program I run runs just fine. Firefox is the only one that gives me issues and its not just on my computer, its on any of the workstations I've put it on. Security is more important than speed so I make my users deal with it.
Then why is Firefox the ONLY program that it happens to? If it was a windows issue then it would happen to more than just one program. I'm the entire IT Dept so I do kinda know what's going on. Find quality software that functions the way we need and can do what we do here that runs on *nix and I'll switch from windows. Until then please keep your holier-than-thou comments to yourself because no OS or browser or anything is so amazingly wonderful that it makes all others obsolete.
memory usage: Firefox - 38meg avengine - 22meg (antivirus) IExplore - 11 meg outlook - 9meg winword (with doc loaded) - 3.8 meg excel (with sheet loaded) - 2.8 meg IE + Outlook + Word + Excel Firefox
This is obviously some strange usage of the word "tiny" that I was previously unaware of. (Mandatory hitchhikers referance)
I run O&O defrag as well and it constantly keeps my drive defragged in the background. Even with a fragged up swapfile, 512 meg of ram keeps that from being an issue.
When speaking of features, nothing beats firefox. When speaking of stability and mem usage, it's not worth the hype.
0.9 whooped major butt. I had NO problems. 1.0 crashed and the mem usage became as issue from there it's just gotten worse.
So basically I can use 0.9 and love it to death but be subject to security issues just like IE or I can keep it upgraded and secure and put up with crashes and lockups. How does that make this a superior product?
Yes. Each version gets slower. I have a 1.4gig cpu and 512 megs of ram. If I minimize firefix and work in another program for 10 or 15 minutes then restore the firefox window, I can wait anywhere between 20 and 45 seconds for the window to come up and I can hear the hard drive chugging away like mad. It crashes regularly, at least once a day, as well. I installed firefox on 15 computers here at work and it's the same on each one. The employees actually asked if they could start using IE again because firefox was just way too slow in some situations. Regardless, I keep upgrading thinking it will be fixed soon. There's nothing like false hype over eye candy. It's pretty, the plugin system whoops major butt, but as a whole firefox just simply is not worth the hype it has recieved, which is why it's called "hype".
"Old crap" is horribly expensive to make usable and maintain. You also run into the issue of having 374 different types of computers that you have to maintain. Buying 100 new identical name-brands with a warranty through their education program is far more economical than accepting people's POS old computers for free. When one dies, it becomes parts for the others. When an old POS dies, it becomes landfill.
I tried it and it didn't work for crap. It found about 1 out of every 30 songs. The last thing in the world I'm going to do is register to use a product then use that to upload fingerprints of all my mp3's to some company that knows exactly where they came from. I can't wait till the RIAA figures out how to get their hands on that database. Though it can't be used directly, it can show them who has tons of files so they can watch their IP's.
"What is thy bidding, my master" would be appropriate if you were running *nix, but if you're running windows I think Yoda saying "Anger, fear, agression, the dark side of the force are they." would be more appropriate.
I'm using dual monitors and Archy sized itself so that you can't fit the window on one monitor. You can't resize it either. I also noticed that the X in the corner doesn't close the program. I had to type "quit" while holding capslock to close it. Definately Alpha but it does look promising.
The way I always understood it was like this: Geek: very smart with good people skills Nerd: very smart with poor people skills Dork: dumb with poor people skills
This game will never come out of alpha. In general, developers work very hard to make the various pieces of a game work well together, compliment each other, and help each other with their various tasks. Making "Congress" would be like asking the developers to abandon all they know and start from scratch.
Tribes 1 was fun until every server became one of those infinite ammo, shoot a billion rounds a second, every bullet explodes kind of games. I had a blast playing when you had to actually aim and it was actually kind of hard to kill people. I stopped playing when every time you fired you created a small nuclear war. Never even bought tribes 2.
If there still are servers on Tribes 1 that maintain original game play, or even use just a few of the cool addons (not nuclear chain gun ones) let me know.
Within 15 minutes of installing 1.0.2 I had 3 crashes. 0.9 was stable as hell. 1.0 crashed sometimes. With every new version the crash level increases. Believe it or not, but one crash today was so bad I had to restart my pc and I had 3 instances of firefox that I couldn't kill. How did I have 3 instances when I only launched it twice? I don't know. How do you make a program worse with every release?
Can we get off the firefox bandwagon now, since it's proven itself to be no better than IE and certainly not better than mozilla or netscape? Yeah it's got more toys than the other browsers but I could care less if it crashes constantly.
I worked on F-15 radar and avionics in the Air Force. Working with radar teaches you a lot about signal loss. Monster cables are pure marketing and nothing else. You can actually hurt the quality of signal by using a cable that's too large or thick.
Don't buy the cheapest cables you can find, but don't buy the most expensive either. I saw the post below about spending 1/10 the cost of the equipment on cables and that's nothing but marketing also. Cable really is cheap. It's cheap to make and cheap to build. Some cables are expensive because they know they can get away with charging those prices and not because they're any better than the competition. A cable for a $4000 tv is going to be more expensive than a cable for a $150 tv, simply because hell if you're willing to spend $4K on a tv then you're willing to spend $100 on a cable. Just buy decent cables and you'll be all set.
Yes, something aught to be done. You should be held legally responsible for letting your 9 year old surf the net unsupervised. Ever heard of this thing called a password? It's this really simple device that allows you to control who uses a computer and who doesn't. Yeah something should be done about parents who refuse to supervise their kids on the net and then expect the government to do their parenting for them. If you can't be there to supervise your kid then don't let them on the net. It's so freakin simple it's scary yet people like you can't comprehend things like "responsible parenting" and instead make life difficult for everyone else by supporting governmental intrusion into everyone elses lives.
So come on over and set this up for me since it's so easy.
