to catalog and stream. I can be in the yard with my pda, or at work on my workstation, doesnt matter. I can stream any part of my collection. it does bitrate conversion on the fly, and is managed through a nobrainer web interface. makes itunes look like a model T.

a grand savings of $236

any client that can stream mp3 can connect to the slimserver...winamp, xmms, wimp, gsplayer etc.
this is easily the best solution for a home network
I use it to stream mp3s from my 80gig collection to my PDA(802.11b). No hiccups, does bitrate conversion on the fly, itunes, shoutcast, etc
