I'm not exactly sure about it, since I was playing on my brother's and I didn't dig too deep. But I thought that the VC games were tied to the console only if you didn't tie your console to your Nintendo.com account. I thought I had read something saying that certain downloaded items would move to a new console if you attached the account to it.
Gamecube had about a 4 year lifespan, I'd say. I love it, but I can't think of any games worth buying that came out in this past year. Maybe someone else can enlighten me.
Agreed. If someone refused to enter a church for fear that they are legitimizing it, they might as well be any other fundamentalist religion. All of them refuse to accept the fact that other people have different beliefs.
If my friends or family have a wedding at a church, will I refuse to go because it's a place of magic hocus pocus? Not a chance. If I go to a wedding, am I going to join in prayer? Again, not a chance.
I would normally agree with you (I said the same thing about the Xbox 360 last year), but I've heard that other manufacturers are having a hard time putting new Bluray players to market because Sony has bought a majority of the lasers. To me, it definitely seems like a production shortage. Supposedly there is a higher-than-usual rate of failure in the Bluray laser production.
If Sony really cared about black marketeering, they would have launched with ample supplies. I believe a blogger for Kotaku said he talked to 100 people in lines, and only 1 said he was going to keep it to play. They love the black market sales because that increases hype for the system. People see that it's going for $3,000 on ebay, and they think that it must be worth it.
I actually mean all major review sites. 1UP seems to have people who hate games reviewing them. IGN seems to be reviewing Wii games based on PS3 criteria. They seem disappointed that games are only 480p and 16:9 widescreen and the graphics aren't stunning.
I suppose they do, but that's not doing anything to put them into carbon neutral territory. They're not actually giving things back to the environment, they're just taking away less.
For example, let's say I steal for a living. If I start stealing only enough to survive, I'm not suddenly the most honest and generous person. I'm just less of a scumbag.
How would this make Microsoft the greenest company? As far as I can tell, it wouldn't. It would make the companies that use MS products greener companies. It would have nothing to do with the net energy that Microsoft uses.
What I like about PunkBuster is that the majority of games that use it don't require it. So I'm free to play on a server without it, if I must do so. It is also usually a separate install than the game, so I'm free not to install it if I feel that it's spyware.
Reports say Sony is subsidizing the cost of PS3 at a huge loss. Nintendo is selling Wii at a profit, day one. Nintendo wins with the first Wii they sell.
I like how the writer assumes that friend codes will be involved, and completely missed the whole concept of them. You can play anyone in most games without a friend code, but you'd have to settle for random matchmaking. Animal Crossing is the only game I can think of off the top of my head that required a friend code.
And I especially like how he says Nintendo is entering the world of multiplayer gaming. First, they've had the WiFi Connection running for more than a year. Second, just because they haven't participated much in online multiplayer gaming, he ignores all of their other great multiplayer and party games. The way I see it, online games are second fiddle to offline multiplayer. I'd rather be together with my friends, but if that can't happen, we resort to using the internet to play together.
That's also the reason Windows is extremely bloated. Is there a reason I need 16-bit compatibility libraries on a 64-bit machine? I don't ever plan to run 27 year old programs, and neither do a large amount of people. Is there a reason that they can't include this backwards-compatibility as an optional patch?
Last I heard, I thought it was $300, as in "buy one for yourself, buy two for children." But it's also proven to be more than $100 to make, so if the deal is still on, that price may go up.
I read on another site (possibly Destructoid) that Guitar Hero was having problems, due to the fact that you needed to hit a specific button (let's say 'X') that doesn't exist on a GH control. Then if you try to hotswap controls, you're told to turn on analog control, another feature which the GH control doesn't have.
Don't forget, Nintendo as run by Iwata is much different than Nintendo as run by Yamauchi. Iwata seems to be more in touch with the people who play games, whereas Yamauchi was a crazy old man, rumored to have five heads.
Graphics: OpenGL
Sound: OpenAL
Physics: ODE
Input: SDL (?)
Network: ?
Full of flaws, yet a masterpiece? He must be interviewing for a job at one of the big name game sites. They all said pretty much the same thing.
I guess it's hard to let the hype die down.
To all of the above replies:
*whoosh*

So what I'm gathering from this is that it's going to be a behemoth of a battle between IBM and MS, with hopefully many lawyers dying in the middle.
I second Windjammers. One of the best and most addictive arcade games ever.

I see you've been using electronic voting machines supplied by IGN.
So R.C. is the Ralph Nader of cola?
Marketing is like a joke. If you have to explain it to your audience, it's failed.

I find an MP3 player that is 6 inches long, has an 8 hour battery life, and a maximum capacity of 2-4GB inefficient.

No, but I was thinking more along the lines of home users, not corporate users. It's been a good while since I've seen someone using DOS WordPerfect.
Vista is already split into 7 different editions, why not a "Compatible" edition for users who wish to have that feature?
