In my start of Linux a little over a year ago, I tried Mandrake, SUSE, Slackware, and a few others. I stuck with Mandrake the longest, because it made things work for my system easier than the others, and it was pretty straight forward. (YMMV) But, I, even then, hated RPM. YAST was ok, but it wasn't what I thought of for an easy install. I've started using Kubuntu (cause I like KDE) and apt-get is a wonderful thing. It takes all the frustration out of the dependancy hell with RPM and no worries on incompatible RPM packages. It just seems to work better.

I've yet to try Gentoo, so I can't speak for emerge, but apt-get has made me enjoy the Linux experience so much more than I did with RPM based distros.

You're a fucking Hypocrite. You throw out the "racism" card, which would be more like "nationalism" used in the appropriate sense, because he blames the French in an overtly benign manner. Yet, you call myself and all others from my country "wanna-be" Americans. Perhaps I'm mistaken but I do believe that the US of A is also located on the North American Continent. I also believe Mexico is too. We're all North Americans. It just so happens that the world has tended to call the people from my country "Americans" because it's easier to say than "United Satesians" The people from your country have been coined "Canadians" because it's your country's name and it's easy to say.

You either need to put the "race" card up, or change your Sig to reflect the fact that you share this continent with two other countries who are equally "American" in the literal sense; since you're so adament on abolition of "racism."

Unless, of course, it's only "racism" that you happen to disagree with that you fight...

This is kinda how Quicksilver does this with pre-10.4 (Not having 10.4 I can't talk about how quicksilver interacts with spotlight et al). It didn't matter where anything was, particularly, you just type in the name of it, and hit enter. Voila, it opens up in the approptiate program. This idea does take some getting used to, you're quite right. But I think after people try it for a couple of days, then they'll realize that the database (or catalog as far as QS goes) model is vastly more efficient. Rather than having to remember where you put that file you use twice a quarter, you can just type it in, and there you have it. No hunting, no guessing, it's there when you need it and that's what's important.
