The data center will be built in China at a cost of approximately $250m then shipped to the US. Technical support for this data center will be in India and when the data center crashes, a "sad face" will be projected into the clouds above much like the bat-signal. The $1bn price tag is simply because it's made of funky white plastic, all staff members will be lit so only their silhouettes are showing and it will have an Apple logo on it.
About the Australian woman, your info is wrong. She was sentenced to two years by the judge and reduced to 1 year probation.
You misread. I said she was FACING 5 years, which is what was reported here.
SmallFurryCreature:
You already been corrected on the drugs case, but what exactly is wrong with sentencing someone for a crime? There seems to be a lot missing from this story and the way it is written is the typical "we always write we want the goverment to be though on crime except when there is a sob story in it".
And considering that australia, the goverment this woman supports with her tax money, treats immigrants as prisoners, shouldn't you first look to your own legal system?
Illegal immigrants are different to immigrants. There are legal ways to enter this country under immigrant or refugee status. I'm not sure what country you're from, but how would you like thousands of people from other countries entering your nation every year taking your jobs, leeching off your governments welfare scheme and bringing disease in as they don't pass through customs? I'm not advocating locking refugees in detention centres, far from it. But there are better ways to enter Australia.
Try to keep up IBM. I built my computers years ago. I built a server/workstation 2 PC combo in a rack unit and used watercooling to cool both computers. In a server farm situation it makes sense too. You can recycle your water and I think it would be cheaper to cool water than air. Am I right?
I read "Should Network Cables Be Replaced" and thought maybe I could learn something and gain some insight. Instead I'm treated to the most bizarre toilet analogy of epic proportions.
This may be the best reply thread in the history of/. IMHO.
I'm going to sue the governing body responsible for roads. Because most people speed in my city when driving, this will eliminate their ability to do it. Therefore without roads, driving will be safer.
Making available argument is ridiculous. Just because you give someone the tools to do something illegal, doesn't mean YOU have done something illegal.
I've never used such a device but I can see where a computer may become confused. When we touch the screen and move our fingers, we would more than likely change the distance between our fingers unintentionally when rotating in a circle. Maybe the solution is simple.
When the computer detects that 2 fingers are on the screen, maybe simply displaying a circular template with which the user could follow when rotating, and downing the sensitivity would work. You could just create some kind of shadowing overlay or something. If the user wants to zoom, then just doing the usual 'fingers-closer' or 'fingers-further-apart' would work too.
I'd like to see touchscreen implemented correctly. There are so many areas where just 'grabbing' something on screen and moving it would be so much more user friendly. Particularly when it comes to people with disabilities.
I would never trust HP with anything with the word 'security' in it. I worked in the service department in the largest computer retailer in Australia (Harvey Norman) for 8 years and still work in the industry. HP, for as long as I can remember, have been putting a backdoor trojan called "Backweb" in their computers for years. They now call it "Updates from HP", but it's the same program. Early versions of Spybot S&D (from the 2003 era) removed it as a threat, as did several other spyware scanners.
I had the opportunity to have a one-on-one meeting with the managing director of HP Australia a few years ago and asked him a bunch of loaded questions. Among those questions was "Why do HP put spyware in their computers?" He had no idea what I was on about, so I showed him. Right there, I took a brand new HP out of the box, plugged it in, installed spybot and ran it. It removed several instances of spyware, namely "Backweb".
He had no answer. I told him to call whoever controls this and he did (to his credit). He was told by the guy that it's so HP can push through updates. I asked him "What updates? Is the user informed? Is all this in the license agreement?" He gave up on me and walked out.
I, for one, welcome our new retarded TV Executive zombie overlords.

Had that once in a HL title. Uninstall the game, re-install it and delete that save game file. Works every time. It's usually a glitch in when the map changes after a corrupted savegame has been loaded.
My old naming scheme was surnames of Simpsons characters.
Wiggum - server Smithers - Windows box Muntz - ex-wife's machine Nahasapeemapetilon - Linux box (I changed it when I couldn't spell it when mapping a UNC path) Flanders - other Windows box Moleman - My Windows 98 pc I used for old DOS games
Now I've consolidated and gotten rid of most of my computers. New naming scheme. See if you can pick it:
Valid point, but if you have a Samsung hard drive, you're better off using Western Digital, Seagate or IBM hard drive tests. I've tested hundreds of Samsung hard drives on different computers with the Samsung hard drive test tool and over 90% of the time, the test gets to 3% and passes the drive regardless. This has been the situation with working and dead drives.
Overclocking is the stupidest, stupidest thing people can do on modern hardware. By designing a graphics card or CPU that overclocks you're pandering to the statistics freaks who want to get that extra 1% performance increase and therefore "more bang for their buck".
Although you are completely entitled to your opinion, I have to disagree. If you were a racing car driver, would you only put your throttle down to 80% of its capacity just in case you might push the engine too hard? These graphics cards/CPU's/Mainboards/etc are designed to have extra headroom for stability purposes just like the car you may own. People overclock to get the performance out of the unit that it's capable of. Same as people who get aftermarket parts for cars. Suspension, exhaust, engine management computer chips, the works. You can keep your stock computer (which is probably a mac anyway). I'll have my awesome gaming rig thanks. And I'll push it as hard as it can go. My gripe is not the hardware, it's the software drivers.
I have ceased all overclocking while this problem is occurring. Besides that point, I've only overclocked my cards by 1-5%. With default settings I've tried raising the default fan speed only up to 100% for testing. On restart, same issue. Both in SLI and non-SLI forms.
Are you kidding me? Nvidia drivers are terrible. I installed the latest chipset (nvidia based) and VGA (8800GT) drivers a few weeks ago on my Windows XP partition. Now every time I go through the drivers to adjust anything from overclocking options to simple fan speed adjustments, next restart the picture on the screen gets corrupted and the PC locks up. You have to restart in safe mode, delete the video cards (SLI setup) out of device manager and re-install them.
These are brand new drivers! My next card will be an ATI.
1601??? WTF???? Does Microsoft just love large unnecessary numbers? Or is this so people can wind back the clock in their accounting software to backdate an invoice that needed to be created 400 years ago?

Think different.

My bad, I stand corrected.
Law and order in Thailand is a crazy topic. It seems the people responsible for law in the country have some kind of mental disorder. Just last week, an Australian woman faced 5 years in prison for stealing a bar mat. I mean, WTF? Here in Australia we've heard over and over again about Shapelle Corby, who was sentenced for 20 years for carrying less than 10lbs of marijuana into the country. I'm not saying she didn't commit a crime, but does the punishment fit what she did?
I'm beginning to think Thailand is becoming "North Korea v2.0" with crazy officials trying to enforce ridiculous policy.

For those who didn't see the humor in the above statement, DO NOT put any device sensitive to static (pretty much all IT equipment) in a dryer.
You forgot Burpengary and Woodenbong.

Maybe some people should work on mastering the keyboard before moving to touchscreen technology.

This is an inspiring piece. Well done guys. But imagine if HL came to Hollywood. Who would you get to play which character?
I'd love to see G-Man played by Christopher Walken :D

Looks like MS has 3 options:
4. ?????
5. Profit!
