You have to understand these things can come through other avenues, not just ignorant browsing habits. We've had customer's who have sworn that they haven't used their browser for weeks, only checked emails. Now I know people lie, but it is plausible and I'll tell you why.
Some of the first variants of Vundo virus (pretty much all of these WinAntivirus/MS Antivirus 08/09/etc) was fed to the OS through an exploit in older versions of Java. JAVA! You'd not normally think that injecting code through an old version of Java would be the way these things get infected unless you're in the business. Your average Joe these days would question 'updating your java' when they don't even know what java is.
So it's not always just people clicking on a banner that is telling them they're infected, or they're the 1,000,000th visitor that get infected with this scum.
Sad thing is that the majority of Windows users would not know what 'DOS' actually is. A very high percentage of people who use Windows lack the fundamental understanding of not only where the operating system came from (it's roots if you like) but also what alternatives are out there.
I've known people who, when told about linux, think it's all command line based because it's used for servers. To tell these people that there is a command line in Windows (in M.E., XP and on this actually rides ON TOP of the OS, not the other way around like 3.1, 95 and 98) shocks them.
Surely any tech out there that works on Windows PC's will know the brilliant Microsoft Antivirus Suites the company has to offer.
Examples: XP Antivirus, Vitae Antivirus, Windows Antivirus, Antivirus Pro, Antivirus 2007, 2008, and 2009, System Antivirus, Vista Antivirus, and XP AntiSpyware 2009
All quality software that inform you of the hundreds of infections your PC has.
This is a joke by the way, enjoy your vundo virus;)
...for the first time in history, Australian ISP and telecommunications company Telstra have done something right. After blindly ripping off consumers and having anti-competitive monopolistic policy, Telstra have done something completely uncharacteristic - they supported their customers.
Stay tuned for news at 11, where we report that hell has indeed frozen over.
Except when you load nvidia drivers which instantaneously render your Gnome useless and leave you with a blinking cursor.
I just installed 8.10 half an hour ago. It loaded up first time and even detected my monitors 1680x1050 resolution. Then a popup told me that I can use nvidia restricted proprietary drivers to improve performance. I clicked it, it installed the latest (177) drivers and told me to restart. I did.
Now X is broken and I'm going to re-install all over again.
Singleton is a township in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia. Famous for its wineries and mining. It's a nice place. Friendly people. And it has one of the worlds largest sundials.
I was about to bring up that point. KaZaA was linked to BDE (maybe a parent company or something). I'm not too sure of the exact relationship, but there definitely was one there.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't one of the defenses in the KaZaA court case the fact that they couldn't tell what files users were sharing, therefore they claim they weren't responsible for the distribution of copyrighted material? If this was the case, BDE's new "we can tell what you're sending/receiving" crap could land an A-Bomb worth of trouble in someone's lap.
It's sad that Antec no longer make the Phantom500 power supply. It had a passive cooling design with a fan in it that only operates if the temperature was over 60*c. I have one in my server at home and it's never come on. Even with the watercooling pump and fans on the radiator, it's virtually silent.
Zalman also is worth mentioning. They make arguably the quietest and highest quality fans available on the market. My parents PC has a Zalman CNPS-9500 CPU fan, and you have to look for the lights on the front of the case to know the PC is on.
FYI, you don't OWN the product. The publisher owns the product. You own a license to use the product. If you have a drivers license you have the right to drive a vehicle on the roads. You don't own the roads at all.
That's it. That's the error message. So now, Windows guru, you have to work out from the number of reasons it could be, what caused the problem.
The other great error messages I've seen all involve drivers from non-english-speaking manufacturers. Like from a Marvell Lan B5.1110.1 driver:

Can I just add that we got an Eee Box B202 in for a customer this week and it was a sexy little machine. Atom CPU, 1Gb RAM, 80Gb HDD, 802.11BGN, XP. For a basic PC that can do office work and a little web browsing and such, this is a killer. At $499 the price is right too.
But even then, there is a fast booting mini-os that lets you browse the web without booting windows.
There was a java exploit that snuck this bastard in. Remember to update your Java/Flash/etc...

Please tell me Judge Judy will be presiding. You can all imagine it now. Treating the RIAA like little children (which they are).
On another note, I can smell a slashdotting coming on if they don't have some mammoth servers!
'IceCube will provide new information about some of the most violent and far-away astrophysical events in the cosmos.'
So NWA have a new album out? O.o
And at the high end--well it you want performance and dont care about comptibility then get a PC or a linux machine?
I believe they have Linux on PC now. Convenient!

Well there are those satellites up there that bounce the pictures to the TV right? They're in 'space'.
Now someone get me another beer!
Can't be stuffed with that space stuff. 'slong as the cricket's on anyway ;)
Exetel? The company where the only support you can get involves emailing tech support? Really helpful when you have no internet connection... LOL.
Anyone else notice in the title that there is no "from the someone-ate-my-from-the department"?
Off topic I know, and mod me down as you probably will, but I've never seen that before on /.

Nevermind that, the question is does it blend?
Bzzt!
Windows Millennium was the first MS OS that didn't actually run on DOS as such.
Wow, look at the success they had with that!

Old games are easily lost to the sands of time, the trials of moving, the march of operating systems, and the bateria that eats CDs.
Bateria? Oh noes!!!!
Batman: Quick Alfred, we need some kind of gadget to get rid of bateria?
Alfred: Aye commander
Or better yet, arrange your icons in the shape of a penis with balls like the website is down.
