FULL STOP. Why do people keep perpetrating these lies??
I _wrote_ an OpenGL implementation for the Wii on TOP of the Wii's GX library a few years back. The Wii's GX graphics library was definitely _inspired_ by OpenGL, but it is NOT OpenGL.
We also had a PS2 version of our in-house mini OpenGL which was a WRAPPER for setting the GS registers. (The "GPU" on the PS2 was called "GS" aka Graphics Synthesizer.)
While the PS3 provides _2_ graphics libraries, LibGCM and PSGL, I am not aware of any _shipped_ games using PSGL.
Facts. Try checking them.
-- The truth worth of a community is not only what you receive from it, but you can also give to it.
After a month when you're bored of D3 I recommend you check out (free!) Path of Exile. It is the true spiritual successor to Diablo 2. Also, if you haven't played Torchlight 2 give that one a go too.
At least that way you can decide which one is right for you because you'll have first hand experience. Would love to hear your feedback on why you prefer one over the other!
I can tell the instance the framerate drops below 60. 40 fps looks laggy as shit.
PS3-class game? You mean one that runs only at 480p, 720p & 1080i ? Ewww. No thanks.
If I'm going to pay $#,### dollars on a laptop I want a GPU that doesn't suck ass; Intel's GMAs have always sucked for performance as you point out.
I'll keep waiting until shitty mobile GPUs can run 120+ Hz in 2 yr old games. I'm in no rush to blow money on something that will be obsolete in a few years. Hell, I just picked up a GTX Titan so I can run today's games at 1080p @ 120+ Hz on the wonderful Asus VG248QE 144Hz.
If you point is that an inanimate object "Laws" prevent human behavior then yes, at times, you are correct.
However your trite comment is trivializing, viewing the world in black and white, and comparing apples and oranges.
e.g. We have a _standard_ about red traffic lights to _prevent_ crimes such as (traffic) accidents. We have laws (& penalties) so that motor vehicles have functioning brakes to prevent [future] crime. Standards provide a framework. If everyone just ignores the standard then there was no point having the standard in the first place.
However, standards also empower people. If one vendor decides to not follow the standards then users can use the standard as a measuring stick to hold the vendor accountable to fix their broken stuff. (Now whether this works in practice depends on politics, but at least the option to get the process started is there.)
Laws [generally] act as guidelines for people so that they will think about the consequences. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't (such as prohobition). And while [some] laws are orthogonal to ethics and morality there are also bad-laws and thus we have civil disobedience (such as Rosa Parks) to get the laws changed.
The same can be said for standards. Having a bad standard is worse then no standard.
If everyone held themselves to a higher standard there wouldn't even be a _need_ for Laws in the first place.
If everyone agreed then we wouldn't have the need for "language lawyers" to "interpret" the "spec".
Agree with you. Apparently the OP never read "Beneath Apple DOS".
Diversi-DOS and ProntoDOS (sold by Beagle Bros) were a much better DOS then DOS due to massive reading speed increases.
Hell Copy ][+ when it booted up would two full tracks of data faster then DOS could read a few sectors! Tons of people were figuring things out on the Apple and sharing it.
> In the physical world at least one could use adapters and such to keep a product useful.
In the hardware world it is called "Forced Obsolescence"
Apple is a master of it. i.e. micro-DVI, PowerPC, etc.
Microsoft keeps trying and failing as businesses reject every other version. i.e. "Don't fix what isn't broken". The ONLY reason to ever update an OS is:
a) security / bug-fixes
b) features / drivers
Sadly, it is Microsoft's best interest to NOT fix/add features so they can continue to sell you new versions which essentially the do the same thing as the previous version, but differently.
Apple is a little saner by standardizing things such as System Preferences. Microsoft doesn't know a fucking thing about consistency.
But yes open-source-software is By the People, For the People.:-)
Considering that the mind turns into a zombie-state when watching TV I would have to agree that the popularity of zombies is due to the subconscious-archtypes being projected so people will become aware of who/what they are. Zombies are symbolic that people don't know how to apply critical thinking skills.
Vampires are also symbolic for stealing energy -- that is, having you focus on unnecessary bullshit like some war on inanimate object _X_, false idols that entertain you and produce nothing of lasting value to change the existing situation, etc. so that you will never notice the REAL problems. Namely that greed is a like a cancer upon society, and corrupts everything it touches: Wall Street, Politics, Banks, etc.
There is a pattern & reason for everything even if we don't understand it (yet).
> The purpose of the TSA is to get people used to totalitarianism, so the TSA will be there wherever lots of people go.
While that may be true, and agree with you to some extent, playing the Blame Game doesn't solve anything. Blaming government for the "Theatrical Security Agency" is like blaming a (normal) mirror that you look fat if you are over-weight.
The public receives exactly what they give:
Apathy.
Until people realize the fundamental truth that "We, the people, ARE our government" NOTHING will change.
> WebGL gives any website in the world nearly direct access to exploit bugs in GPU drivers, significantly increasing the attack surface of the browser.
You are stating overblown past issues with zero evidence about future possible ones.
Exactly _how_ many bugs and exploits in WebGL has there been? Aside from _THREE_ issues about:
1. CORS / Cross-domain textures (fixed), 2. GPU VRAM reading using as WebGL texture (OSX only!), and 3. DoS
I am not aware of any other code "exploiting bugs in the GPU drivers". Frankly , this is not primarily a GPU driver's issues but an OS and Browser issue. The fact that VRAM is not cleared when a WebGL program starts up is the bug, not unfettered access. This is like complaining a program can be run as 'admin/root' and read the memory of ALL processes. I say "like", because there is no concept of separate memory spaces on the GPU's VRAM.
Of course the bigger problem is why the browsers don't pass the Khronos security conformance tests. I am not sure what the _current_ status of modern browsers are.
Anytime "exploits" are mentioned the year/month should be included so we can gauge if we are discussing issues already fixed or relatively new ones.
All the power-users have ways to "Open Command Prompt here" from the GUI and the dual: open the GUI File/Folder Explorer from the shell:
To go from Command Line --> GUI with Bash

alias x='open.' elif [ "$COLORTERM" == "gnome-terminal" ] # Linux - Ubuntu Gnome then
alias x='nautilus.' else # Windows (need.bat file in CMD.EXE)
alias x='explorer/e,.' fi
You correct about Atheism being about faith, but incorrect about agnostic.
A-gnosis = Without _KNOWLEDGE_ Gnosis = WITH knowledge.
As a mystic BOTH theism and atheism _know_ _nothing_ about God -- all they have is an incomplete belief system. The gnosistic / mystic doesn't have all the answers either, but at least he has _some_ knowledge via _experience_. The only true type of Truth there is.
I think you would find many here on/. that shares your lament over how corporations behave like psychopath along with how a few sociopaths have long controlled the mainstream masses due to power/greed/lust/control but aren't you being just a _tad_ pessimistic??
Considering the fact that the western world has running water, don't have to risk life nor limb for their daily food, the majority has a relatively safe place to sleep, we can learn the past few _thousand_ years of Mathematics, Science, and Philosophy all within roughly 10-20 years, not to mention all the cool tech the average person has access to (such as the ability to communicate long distances) the human race is "overall" in a better place then it was 50,000 years ago. No?
The fundamental root problems with humanity is two-fold:
* an archaic belief that there is never enough, and
* fear which manifests in many forms: greed, power, control, etc.
It took how many thousands of years to... ??
* be allowed to believe a different philosophy without getting killed (religion) * be allowed to write a different philosophy without getting killed (censorship) * to grow the fuck up and out-law ownership of another person (slavery)
Heck one guy said "Can't we all just get along. We can and we should." and was nailed to a tree for pointing out the flaw in human nature.
So why are you all that surprised that we have [yet] to learn the final lessons?? Namely:
* The Basis of Civilization is built upon Sharing,
* When we stop blaming/allowing others to control us and take personal responsibility; when we realize the truth:
"We are our own government", and
* "Grow the fuck up" and become civilized by not treating our fellow man/woman with less respect / honor / love that we should be treating everyone as our father / mother / brother / sister
Ultimately, humans will learn the secret ingredient:
That the purpose of the universe is a dynamic feedback system designed to teach; namely, at the end of the day it is all about one thing:
> while the Playstation and Wii use OpenGL

2. Do you understand the frame rate of movies??
3. Maybe you are blind but I just gave my co-worker this test:
http://frames-per-second.appspot.com/
On a double blind test he was able to easily tell the difference between 30 Hz and 60 Hz 100% of the time.
> movies are below 40 FPS. 40 FPS is more than enough when it's really 40 ...
Moves are 24 Hz and panning looks like garbage.
Well at least Blizzard admits they fucked up D3 with the Auction House:

Micro-DVI to DVI adaptor, Part Number: MB204G. http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MB204G-Micro-DVI-Video-Adapter/dp/B0012RAI84
It was only available on first gen MacBook Air.
Here, this page might help you in the future and you can see the insanity of having X standards.

Apple in 1978 starting shipping _their_ version of DOS 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, and ProDOS in 1983. Microsoft didn't ship their MS-DOS until 1981.
The Apple ][ _could_ run CP/M _if_ you had a Z-80 card. i.e. Wordstar.
