I've been using FF since 1.0.4. The dam thing has _always_ leaked memory (you can easily trigger this when using multiple tabs containing videos.)

I leave the browser open for _weeks_ at a time. Once it hits the 1 GB ~ 1.5 GB usage, I kill it, re-open it, and memory is back down to 200 MB ~ 400 MB. IMHO their garbage collector is broken. If I've just closed a tab, the chances of me wanting to re-open it, are higher the less time it has been, so I could see some memory being "still in use." If I closed a tab, and it's been a week, chances are, I don't want to re-open it -- and all memory should be released (and garbage collected.) It's like the devs never keep their browser open for more then a day at time, so they never see the memory problems when the browser is USED and OPEN for a month at a time.

FF3 doesn't seem nearly as bad as the 1.x series was. I'm hoping FF4 finally fixes this memory bug. Anyone else use the browser for weeks at a time?

    > This is why I am a proponent of everybody studying martial arts. He raped her 'cause he's bigger and stronger.

Not that I disagree with you, but there are a few points to consider:

    1. How long have you -actually- studied MA for?

    Size MATTERS.

Aikido uses the momentum of the attacker against the attacker, IF you are able to pull the move off. If not, all that extra weight (and Strength) is going to hurt.

Not that knowing some Judo wouldn't hurt; I agree knowing SOME MA would help. The question is, can a person who is in a panic situtation remain calm enough to remember there training and do it? I would love to see some stats on women who have taken defensive martial arts and see if it helped?

One thing you never addressed is that MA builds your confidence. The strong prey on the weak, as humans we are part animals and are susceptible to this -- showing signs of confidence / assertiveness helps the attacker to shy away from them and to go prey on someone else [weaker].

    2. Let's say we are in some mythical world where everyone knows MA.

This does nothing to stop _why_ the rapist did the act in the first place. You can't solve a mental problem with a physical solution, all you are doing is treating the symptom, not addressing the cause.

For the record, I was going to knee-jerk and say this wouldn't solve anything. At best, even the rapists will know martial artists, and you've just pushed the problem up one "level." But in reflecting, this is exactly what happens with guns + criminals preying upon the innocent -- they are less likely to invade someone's home when they know that they can get shot (or killed) because the home owner is defending his property. So in this point, I concede.

    > A real game ought to be *winnable*.

That's why I prefer the word "Social Toys" because that's what these are, at best. You "play" with a toy; there _may_ be goals, but there is nothing to "win." A game has (clear) ways to win _and_ lose. If you don't have, you don't have a game!

This same reason is why I am starting to detest MMO's like McWow. There is no winnable state -- granted, it confuses the issue, like getting to the highest level there is, but that is a _player_ goal, not a game state.

    - I grok the point of the game. I really do. You pull off all these amazing moves in one zen flow of execution and it feels fucking fantastic!

The hard Reality of the situation: You spend 1 minute figuring out where to go next. You die. You figure out that jump / climb, then you get stuck again trying to figure out the next 'segment'. Repeat ad nasuem. This constant interruption on trying to figure out how to make your way from 'Start' to some vague 'Finish' location, TOTALLY breaks the flow of the game. Each time you die, you figure out a little more of the "path" you are supposed to take. Finally, after 20 deaths, you can "chain" all the movement together, it feels awesome to do all these "stunts", and you think "this game has potential !" Then you die, and you realize you are a new checkpoint and you get to do it all over again until the chapter is done. LOL.
