Yup, Star Wreck was better, but that's what you get when developping a movie for 7 years. But it doesn't take New Voyages 7 years to make those eps. Besides, I like a lot the old trek style. Less bling bling and more story.

When I was younger, some 15 years ago, I had miniature cars. I had some using that "new technology". They would change from grey to orange when holding them, just by the heat of my hands. Well, that part is funny. So you think it is hard for a lot of people to change of OS and learn how to work. But people have adopted XP in the past, even if it was a LOT different from win9x. "where is the X icon/menu?" we heared. It was a big gui change at the time. And I can already see how it will happen when we will change to Vista! The thing is: since it is hard for people to adapt to a new system, and since soon we will be forced to change to vista (want it or not MS will push hard to force its adoption) which will be a big change for the users, why not take a try at some free alternatives?

  16. cycle of life on Poisoned Torrents Plague Mybittorrent · · Score: 1
Well, it's part of the cycle. Get too popular and shit begins to happen. It's the same for everything. Except that here is a little bit touchy since bittorrent is largely (but not exclusively) used for piracy. If your download is corrupted, you can call the MPAA/RIAA and tell them to "Stop corrupting my pirated movie download" but I doubt it would get you anywhere; except in jail, of course! If legal downloads were to be attacked (like slackware ISO and commercial demos and products) two things could happen:
-massive change of p2p software (bt wasn't the first and won't be the last
-finding and punishing the culprits (hehe, impossible!)
The thing is we can't go against people for poisoning not entirely legal stuff. Sure, we can judge them morally, but in a trial this has almost no value!

So I don't see a lot of alternatives. Who is up for coding another P2P client in 15 lines of code?

  18. doesn't affect the industry on WoW Helping or Hurting the Industry? · · Score: 1
Well congratulations on their success, but I don't believe it is really BAD for the industry. The thing is there are 2 kinds of gamers: those who are fan of mmorpg and the others. If you're like me, you've bought the game, played it some time and discovered it isn't your type of game, you're in the second category. The fact is a LOT of people don't like mmorpgs and get bored fast of them. The rest of the people are distributed amongst the mmorpg games. Sure there are a lot of people playing WoW. But there were also a lot of people playing Everquests and other mmo games. Except WoW is better(sorry for judging) and gained players from other rpgs (plus some new).

Even if there are a lot of wow players, people often play more than one game, so there is nothing to worry for game makers.

Some months ago, I was wandering on their forum while downloading their lastest album. Some people were debating over the "illegal" bittorrent release and one of the band player wrote that they don't care about piracy, as long as it helps them to get known and makes people happy. 5 sec later, I was buying their cd online. I think a band with such enthusiasm for their music to be shared merits my money.

  21. length != replayability on The Happy Medium Of Game Length · · Score: 1

It's sooo true that length isn't all we should look at. There is this arcade sidescrolling shooter: Jets'n'Guns. A simple, well balanced game, with really GREAT gameplay. It's around 10h of gameplay, but it's soooo addictive. Once you've gone through, you MUST play again on harder levels. I've checked with friends and they all passed the game at least 3 times in a row. Now, that's a game of great value. It's nothing like doom3, which is costy and, once you've gone through, you don't play again cuz you "know where the monsters are hidden".

We cannot know what's the intentions of everyone are but the basis is:
"We want to share our source code, our free compositions, our works, our demos..... costlessly and efficiently."

We can't accuse somebody for what others do with is work if you don't know what was its intentions at the beginning. And even if you know, you can't accuse "because you're sure its intentions are bad!"
