Or, the bot tries to model its opponents and tries to take those models into account when playing. If that is the case, as soon as a good player recognises that a bot is playing, he can ensure that the bot will have the wrong model of him, and then exploit that.
As someone who plays poker quite a bit, and is fairly decent at it, I would say you wouldn't even need to recognize it's a bot. A good player will be constantly adapting their style of play on the fly. In a table full of loose people? Play tight. In a table full of tight players? Play loose. And the best thing to do is switch from one hand to the next. Being pegged as a tight player? Switch to loose. Etc. Thus by constantly changing your style, no bot would be able to peg you as a certain type of player.
Best gameplay ever? It's the NES equivalent of Paper-Rock-Scissors. You pick a play, and your opponent tries to guess what play you picked. If he guesses right you get stuffed. If he guesses completely wrong, you get 30 yards or more. I'm all for retro gaming (was just playing SNES earlier), but to say Tecmo Super Bowl rules because of it's gameplay is like saying DOS rules because of the graphics.
You're completely correct. I worked at Blockbuster, up until just before Hot Coffee (and Blockbuster pulled GTA:SA from the stores), and I would explain its content to countless moms and dads. 9 times out of 10 the parents would still let them get it (and some of these kids were 10 or 11). All the kid did to convince them it was okay was say "But mom, I already played it, it's not bad." and the parents just gave in. All I could do was shake my head in disbelief.
I've seen it go the other way too. One worker gets ticked at the employer, and others follow them out of friendship, loyalty or whatever, and instead of losing one employee, the employer loses 2 or more.
No studies involved, just going by the logic I've heard others use to explain their reasons for being adamantly against sex in media and not as opposed to violence. Plus I'm speaking from personal experience (which to me means a heck of a lot more than a study, but probably doesn't mean as much to you).
but it would have seemed better to use something like "It was used twice in minutes? That makes no sense!" Or perhaps "They haven't left the building yet, how has it been used elsewhere?"
I think what they are more worried about is people buying a pass and loaning it out to friends and/or family.
The main difference though is with something like that, if you get bored with a game you get a new game. With MMORPG you have already invested (typically) 50$ just for the game itself before your monthly fee. I could play 4 games (if I play one per week) with Gamefly or BB, with MMORPG I would only get to play 1.
After playing a round of golf this weekend I realize what PKs in MMORPGs need. Handicap. Then when two players come together either the lesser of the two is given some sort of advantage to compete or the better of the two is brought down to the other ones level. This then becomes a battle of who is a better fighter, not who has the most toys/buffs/etc.
Not quite. I was explaining why every person has to be a salesman when they apply for the job. Employers are not mind readers, you have to convince them sufficiently that the merits they're looking for, you posess. This doesn't factor in whether you actually posess said merits.
It's as simple as this. You are a commodity. You offer a service at a price. The business hiring you wants to get as much of that service as cheap as they can. I knw it's nice to dream of the utopia where everyone is paid exactly according to their merit and hired based simply on it, but it's not gonna happen in a capitalist system.
Does this remind anyone else of the Simpsons episode where Homer was watching PBS and they demanded he make a donation before letting him watch his show?
It is for this reason that the ever present jumping puzzle has become more and more popular. It combines the simplicity of control (you really only need a d-pad and a jump button) and the complexity of being difficult. They aren't my cup of tea, but it's obvious why the seem to be a staple of modern action games.
I would almost argue that intelligence can be a hinderance in a college setting. For someone such as myself who is pretty intelligent, I found high school to be easy and I graduated with a 3.5 GPA and never studied once. Contrast that to my college career where I am fighting to keep my head above water becauuse i never developed the skills that are necessary at this level: studying, proper note taking, etc.

Or: Q: Why does divorce cost so much? A: Because it's worth it!

The logic behind that is that watching sex inspires sexual thought. Watching violence (typically) does not inspire violent thought.

Technically men still have breasts. :)
Yeah maybe farm out the roles normally filled by NPCs to casual gamers.
Who said anything about MMORPGs? He said MMOGs which is a genre that describes, but is not limited to MMORPGs.

If you're having PK make it reasonable.

The fact that he/she is posting as AC is reason enough to know it's Java bashing for the sake of Java bashing.
what is the difference between mingw and a cygwin installed gcc/g++ environment ?
MingW is a native windows app that doesn't require the cygwin dll and creates exes that are standalone in windows.
Me too, especially since I got that new HD 4 slice. That's 2x as many slices as a conventional toaster.

Duel boot? Is that where the Operating Systems fight to see who gets to serve as your OS for this boot? :P

"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, and statistics." - Mark Twain
I think they would coexist fine. Penguins live close to the south pole (antarctic), and Santa Claus is reported to live in the north pole (arctic). :)
