In a way I agree. However, myspace, and by extension other sites like it, DO have some utility. After my wife signed up for a myspace account she ended up getting in touch with quite a few friends from school. I decided to get an account just to see how many of my friends I could get in touch with again, and I was surprised that within one day I had gotten back in touch with numerous good friends and family members that I had lost the contact information for. Now all I do is check it every once in a while (every other week or so) and browse new additions to my high school/college classes and see if it's anyone I would want to get back in touch with. Not to mention any new messages I receive in myspace (including friend requests) I have sent to my email.

You're missing a big point. People who are still using IE don't want to decide what new browser to use. IE "works fine" for most of them, so if you say "Hey your browser isn't what it could be, why don't you try another?" They, typically, don't want to have to pick it out. You're the one that tld them it could be better, so they will WANT to know what you recommend.

Your analogy is flawed though. This is the equivalent of your GM car suddenly not working in some of the advertised ways because it thinks the car is stolen, forcing you to buy a new GM. Which doesn't happen, and would be a cause of many lawsuits. For the sake of honesty: I use Windows XP and prefer it over anything else I've tried.

The difference, to me at least, is the romticisization of it. In SPR and PH, war is depicted fairly accurately, at least from a sense of "This is bad stuff, that you wouldn't want to take part in yourself." Not having played the game, I can't say how romantisized the violence is therein, but from what I've been reading it's way too casual to bear a resemblance to the aforementioned films.

I know Mythbusters' results aren't highly regarded in the Slashdot community, but a recent episode they did showed that (at least for them) talking on a cell phone degraded their ability to drive in a similar manner that driving under the influence of alcohol did.

They (Adam and Kari) basically drove a road course sober, with no distractions to establish a baseline driving skill level with such things as obstacle avoidance, reaction time, and parking being tested. They were graded on both time and accuracy. Then they attempted to talk to Jamie while driving, and were evaluated. Then they drank enough beer to be just under the legal blood alcohol limit in California (greater than .07 but less than .08), and were graded again. While both of them passed the baseline, they failed the cell phone test and the alcohol test, and the failures were similar (as far as degradations in reaction time and such). This correlated with research done by the nsurance Institute for Highway Safety who found that cell phone users were four times as likely to be involved in a serious crash.

If you use a standard MySQL library (which is also GPL) you MUST release the source. Most people are doing the latter without realizing it's a GPL violation.
