  1. alternative email apps... on Do Unsubscribe Links Stop Spam? · · Score: 1

I use TheBat http://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/ for my email app at work. It won't load any html pages or images without permission. Gmail http://gmail.com/ does the same.

I noticed under the X1 options for email the only support it shows is for the mainstreem email applications such as: Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape and Eudora. Don't all self-respecting Slashdotters use TheBat? http://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/ Hopefully they add support for alternative email apps with future releases.

  4. why even go to the library? on National Library Service Plans Next-Gen Audiobooks · · Score: 1

Why are they bothering even making these people cart themselves to the library? Why not just let them download the books online? I understand this brings into question copyright problems, but seriously... what's the difference between taking home a flash key and then saving it to your desktop or just downloading it from their website? This is just an unnecessary step in the process.

  5. Zombies... on Google Suggest · · Score: 1

Granted, it's cool.. very cool, but the fact it's already censoring sites is reason enough for me not to use it. Sure, right now it's harmless censorship, but give it a few months of use and I'm sure someone like the FCC and Michael Powell will drop the hammer Just like he did on Howard Stern. Control the whole Wal-Mart populace and just churn out more zombies, rather than creative/ free thinkers.

I've been using the software to send files securely to trusted friends, I wonder if this isn't the direction sharing mp3s will go in the future, in order to avoid the RIAA.

In any case... Nullsoft has since banned using the software, but its still available under the GPL at sites like:

In addition to this... another little annoyance I noticed was:

After purchasing a 15gig iPod and charging it up (4hrs), I went to hook it up to my USB 2.0 port on my PC, doh! No USB cable comes with the iPod! Back to Frys, purchased the cable for 20bucks... Back home, hooked up the iPod to my PC via USB 2.0 and everything was going just fine, except its UNABLE TO CHARGE WHILE CONNECTED TO USB. Ummm... Would have thought Apple would have a seperate connection for persons using USB ,so the iPod could charge while you're downloading music it. Instead I had to download 2gigs at a time, recharge the iPod (2-4 hours) and then do it all over again....and again.. It tooknearly 2 days to fill the iPod to capacity.

    Keep this in mind...

If you have a PC make sure you have a firewire card (charges while downloading); otherwise, you're in for a real heacache.

This would be much cooler if you could call someones regular phone, not just someone who has skype installed.. thats kinda weak. IMO What ever happened to the free net2phone apps that were out there??? They ones I know charge now.

That assumption alone tells me the game is going to be improved. Recommendations will be given and if enough people request the enhancement they will *have* to deliver. If they don't then people will stop playing and they will lose money.

Its obvious this game isn't for everyone and it suits persons best who have the "EQ" type patience (or stupidity). It would suck to *not* buy this game now, wait six months only to find out LOW AND BEHOLD its a pretty slick game now... and I'm six months back with some useless toon name like "EggsOverMyHammy."
