odd, i've always ascoiated it with my alma mater. Never heard of the Nazi connection. I figured it was just a group of like items working together much lick a pack of wolves.
"Well, it's happened: I've been Slashdotted. Which I suppose is good news. But the poor little 600 mhz pentium under my desk hosting Darwinian Poetry can't handle the strain. Connectivity may be bad until the Slashdot crowd backs off. Sorry."
to quote Empire Records: "I like your style."
Though personally I disagree with it.
Voltaire: "I may disagree with what you say,
but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
and for my salvo in this war, though I can not comment of the syntax of the referring article, paws in chess can move in a "L" pattern when executing an en passé (but it's rarely used and is considered to weaken your defenses). It's more of a diagonal move but a "L" nonetheless.
Ah, but see, HAL-9000 didn't make a mistake or distort information. HAL did exactly what he was supposed to do - give the mission the greatest possible chance of succeeding, which he attempted to do by knocking off the error and emotion prone human crew.
which makes the Honda Crash Detection system that much scarier. it will do exactly as it is told regardless of outside influence. granted it can be told to make exceptions but, void of human override, "What are you doing Dave?", it will still only ever act as it is told to do.
the HCD system should be a great augmentation to human controlled driving... not a replacement.
HAL: "Let me put it this way, Mr Amer. The 9000 series is the most reliable computer ever made. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error."
IBM's stock is at $84. Compared to the rest of the players in this drama I do not think that they have anything to worry about.
IBM's stock has followed the trends of the DJIA almost exactly for the last 8 years (DJIA up, IBM up etc.) Stock prices depend on more factors than this one little incident. Even SCOX has bounced back to $8.

that's why i suggest a new format. either:
IANAAC (Acronym Creator)

both of you above are gentlemen and scholars. cheers.
i was snickering because, iirc, copyright is the opposite of copyleft.
an article touting the benefits of GNU uses a copyright. *snicker*

what's it mean when, instead of starting at slashdot, i went to google news which linked to this SCO article not through C|NET but to slashdot.
/. or are they trying to protect C|NET?
/. become a trusted news source?
Google News linking to slashdot!?! Do they have it out for

Isn't hurting them yet.
this may be offtopic but it's a great example of how companies can bounce back from bad press: SCOX. come on, what happened!
i'd tend to agree with #1
even though i use Kazaa Lite i'll be sure to block anyone from getting my file list for this explicit reason
do have to worry about the RIAA/MPAA if I watch my pr0n with the mute on?
he'd never make it in the pr0n industry. no one will want to work with him if they can't ensure that's he's secure and safe from viruses :)
