There's no annoying, blinking lights, there's no "are you sure?" dialogs, the design is minimalist and takes up very little screen space
Setting the gnome panel to Autohide gives me as clean a desktop as one could imagine.
The "stuff" in my (slightly) customized GNOME 2.x desktop is where I like it, and the mouse movement, keyboard clicks and "eye movements" are What I Expect. Same with FireFox 4: even after customizing it as much as possible, there's still stuff that's *different* that what my muscles have been trained to do since Netscape 2.0.
GNOME 2.3x and FF 3.6 *work* the way that I've become accustomed to using a *desktop*. Which isn't a tiny-screen tablet. It's a big, wide desktop. All this hype about the desktop disappearing is a heaping helping of horse hockey and the people who follow after such fads should be shot.
Yes, American federal contracts are going to be a source of significant revenue too, but that certainly isn't going to be the only customer for these rockets.
I'm just correcting AC's fallacious logic, not stating that the US gov't will be their only customer.
The 9" screen on the KayPro was a dream to use. Really sharp and easy on the eyes. Much better than the Hercules on PCs, and compared to it, CGA was worse than bush league.
Because almost anyone using an external drive (as opposed to internal or front-removable) is doing so for portability.
That's what I thought when I sprung for an eSata 4-drive external enclosure: a faster, higher-capacity backup system than my trusty 2-drive USB2 enclosure.
Well, it's faster and works with Advanced Format 2TB drives (which choke my old USB2 enclosure) but Bad Things Happen to the kernel (v2.6.35) when I unmount the external file system and pull the eSATA cable and plug it back in.
plastic "totes" (especially the rectangular stackable ones),
Canned food (Hungry Man soups are quite effective and tasty, but a bit salty),
cutlery/utensils,
gallon jugs of chlorine bleach,
5 gallon carboys of water,
jerrycans of gasoline,
important papers/photographs/etc,
external backup of HDD.
When Katrina was still in the southern Gulf, I knew that it was going to hit N.O., and so we started preparing. At the last practical minute we headed north.
Gas stove and water heater are also darned useful if you're going to stay (as in a blizzard).
I knew a kid who would threaten to accuse her parents of being pedophiles whenever they didn't let her have her way.
When a young parent, I thought of what I'd do in this scenario. I decided that I'd call her bluff by driving her to the police station and daring her to put up or shut up.
The problem is that while it's mean to call an old lady an Old Bag, it's multiple-life destroying to be accused of pedophilia or rape.
The (to one degree or another) affected parties:
The man, who is suspended, be forced out of his job and who will always have the aura of "pedophile" around him, thus being virtually unemployable,
the false accuser, who's name is now "stored" forever in the Internet as a false-accuser (people Googling them will see it and not want to take a chance hiring him/her or accepting him into Exclusive U, dating him, loaning him money, etc),
the man's wife, who can't help but wonder if maybe he *is* a pervert, probably divorces Him,
the man's kids, who get taken away by the state and teased mercilessly by other kids,
the accuser's parents, who's savings will be drained suing the Accused, or defending a libel suit filed by the Man, and shunned by others as Bad Parents,
the accuser's siblings who are stained with Guilt By Association.
The younger you are, the more you'll think I'm full of shit. Oh well.
What I loved was the ability to see all windows at once
But that's too complicated. You're too stupid to use that function.
Just press the activities key (Windows/Super/Meta) and move your mouse to the right.
And those of us who are physically disabled and can only use one hand?
Alt+` lets you switch between windows
What, other than some zombie-like Obamaesque "change is good" mntra is the *purpose* of changing from Alt-Tab to Alt-Backtick?

The SpaceX program, by contrast, is funded through voluntary means (if you ignore the government contracts).
But you can't ignore the government contracts. It's where SpaceX gets it's continuing funds.
Congress loves to pass authorization bills. They don't enjoy passing the corresponding appropriation bills.
And then vilify as baby-killing Hitlers the Republican governors who must clean up the fiscal mess that the states wind up in.

My uncle had an Osborne that he plugged a TTL monitor into so as to use WordStar in a functional manner. He loved it...
Don't forget Nostradamus and Reality shows.
But they still occasionally show Heavy Metal and Modern Marvels.
Good, but different, question. Which, not living in a hell hole, I don't have the answer to.
Since MS is warning you before you enter in your username/password, your interpretation is completely wrong.
of the Iranian CA breach?
If they know that certain governments are decrypting SSL, then it's right to not let people think that their data is secure when it's actually not.
only someone who really really wants to lose their data uses USB as a serious hard drive interface.
Eh? It's slow, but very stable. In Linux, it's the FW drivers that are crappy and reset the bus after a few GB.
One's right to life, liberty, property, speech, press, freedom of worship and assembly may not be submitted to vote
Communist China agrees completely.

I tend to just use directories of symlinks
Symlinks FTW!!!
It lets you organize your music by artist and your movies alphabetically then symlink them in 25 jillion ways so as to organize them any way you want.
Gee, that would be like... the DSP or the GPU!
Hell, engineers have been doing that for at least 50 years. Big names are IBM with the S/360, DEC with the PDP-11 and VAX and Intel with the 8086
It was the only way they could make CISC w/o chips the size of Andre The Giant's thumb. Micro-ops made them obsolete in X86 CPUs in the late 1990s.

nVidia Optimus
Doesn't work with Linux...
The average TV viewer in the US has about a five minute attention span
They only think I have a 5 minute attention span because I can't stand to watch that drivel for more than 5 minutes.
With nuclear power plants, they will make entire regions uninhabitable forever.
Like the area around TMI (Middletown PA and a bunch of townships) is... not uninhabitable???
