I was watching a documentary last night on the lack of evidence of either an Ark or of a great flood. Instead they found ample evidence of a string of myths all dealing with floods, going back thousands of years before the old testament. The idea is that the old testament was using a common myth to make a point, rather than actually describing an accurate history.
Anyways my point is this: Besides this vague and over-used term 'faith', what reason would anyone have for taking the bible literally? How can we say that the 'god' they refer to isnt simply a metaphor they used to teach some good useful lessons?
And please, lets not spout of the mouth about how evil I am and instead focus on the issue I bring up.
How did "It amazes me that you can so quickly conclude that there is no life beyond earth, yet believe in a being that no one can prove even exists" turn into "And when did having faith in something become the requirement for being a decent person living a respectable life" ?
Interesting how you jump on him for attacking you, when in reality he was pointing out your inconsistant beliefs. He has a good point: Why can you so assuredly say that God exists, yet aliens don't? How can you back that up, without reffering to the bible?
I ripped all my cd's into ogg. Of course, it had a lot to do with the fact that grip did it automatically when I stuck a cd in... None the less, I'm very happy with the format. I think probably a lot of linux users actually do use it, but maybe not so many windows users.
Sorry I lagged in responding so long, I didn't notice there was a reply.
You know, you should go back and do that search on google news again (economy u.s.), and take a look and the search results more closely.
But lets look at some hard facts: http://www.zealllc.com/2003/usdbear.htm G reat article, take a read. He certainly tries to defend the US economy.
As of right now: 1 EUR = 1.21510 USD 1 CAD = 0.766454 USD (by the way the CAD is the strongest against the US its been in a decade)
The US is failing in the world economy. Many americans are oblivious to this, partially because they think they can stand alone. Also, regarding Iraq: "Air power clearly achieved many of the objectives of Operation Desert Storm, but fell short of fully achieving others. GAO's declassified review of available data indicate that many postwar claims by manufacturers and the Defense Department (DOD) about the performance of sophisticated weapon systems--particularly the F-117, the Tomahawk land attack missile, and laser-guided bombs-- were overstated, misleading, inconsistent with the data, or unverifiable. Airpower damage to several major targets was less than that suggested in a Defense Department (DOD) report to Congress. The lessons learned from Desert Storm are limited because of the unique conditions, the strike tactics used by the coalition, the limited Iraq response, and the limited data on weapon system effectiveness. The climate and terrain were generally conducive to air strikes, and the coalition had nearly six months to plan the operation. The strong likelihood of success allowed U.S. commanders to favor strike tactics that emphasized pilot and aircraft survivability rather than weapon system effectiveness. In addition, the Iraqis employed few, if any, electronic countermeasures and presented almost no air-to-air opposition. As a result, Desert Storm did not rigorously test aircraft and weapon systems used in the air campaign." (From http://www.d-n-i.net/fcs/comments/c164.htm)
Heres some death numbers: - 40,000 Iraqi soldiers - 86,194 men - 39,612 women - 32,195 children (From http://www.beholdtheempire.com/gulf/articles/artic le5.html)
Yeah, 'the economy is rocking'. What mind-fuck feeding propaganda media have you been watching? Is that just like how Iraq was involved in 9/11 and Desert Storm was a clean precise operation with little colateral damage?
Honestly, if you're going to try and defend Bush, you're going to have to at least back up your statements.
Hahaha! I don't know. I'm sure the plexiglass work is good and all, but that sucks. He took the xbox (which is a pretty gross case to begin with) and made a big ugly plexiglass box. wha!!!?? why?!?! Why is it on the front page of slashdot??!!
Maybe, but thats part of what we are debating. The question is how to count websites. Do you count domains like netcraft does? Do you count ips? What if we count domains, and then weight them for popularity (say #visitors/period)?
Simply stating that "E-business runs on IIS. End of story." is silly. If you're an expert then please, enlighten us.
Uhh, yeah sure. If I am selling a product for, say Honda cars, then I will tend to make more money if more people are driving hondas (as my market base is larger). So, instead of simply marketing my product, I may choose to do some marketing for Honda vehicles, or at least put a good light on them, therefor helping more hondas sell and increasing my potential customer base.
Similarily, Port80 sells software for IIS... you can do the math from here...
The poster is talking about the ability to change the header to read something other than what is actually running, which is something Port80 is trying to sell (to hide your IIS server under an Apache name - ironic isnt it?)
They have a point, even they exaggerate its importance. Netcraft may well be about counting domains, but there may well be more useful ways of tallying web server software. Of course, as with everything it depends on your needs, and netcraft may be just what someone is looking for.
The problem of course is believing anything a company which is obviously in bed with MS says.
Obviously something dreadfuly wrong is going on here. Either you're lieing, they are lieing, or your server is configured in a way you dont understand. Its pretty simple for an apache server to feed IIS headers you know...
Anyways, I tested a few servers and didn't receive any wrong answers. I did manage to cause a scripting error though, for a linux/apache site of course.
I can see how it may be flawed, but unfair? Why is it unfair? Who has the advantage, to make it unfair? As far as I can see, IIS servers could be affected by the very same thing.
Unless you are intoning that IIS servers can't handle multiple domain names pointing to them...:)
Wiki is not easy to grasp for the uninitiated. I wouldnt even let my parents near a wiki. They are obviously not going to need the power of a wiki either.
What they need is a very simple form, with a very small amount of formatting available, in easy to click button form like a word processor.
I concur. This white and green was horrible to begin with, and the layout itself is just barely functional. Not to mention that the other section colors are horrific!
The whole site layout and look needs a complete redesign from the ground up. We should have a contest, like with the shirts, for a new design (like w3c did).
In the early days the game was extremely unstable. I had many of the same issues as you. Past about version 1.3 though, and there are very few really annoying bugs left. My game crashed for the first time last night in months, and I was pissed.
Also, Tommy is from the OC, which is not where the fun is. Go get a bunch of good modules from nwn vault and you'll see where the real holding power is.
Copyright violations a crime? I don't know about you, but that makes me wonder about our laws. As a fineable offence it would make more sense, but not a jailable one.
-mouse gestures would be HUGELY in use
-keyboard shortcuts would be known by almost everyone
-everyone would be using vi or emacs in a wysiwsg mode instead of wordpad/notepad/word.
-User interfaces with only a single type of action (clicky-clicky) wouldn't be popular.
I disagree. Those things make using a keyboard and mouse harder, whereas new input devices could be easier to use than a keyboard and mouse. The reason no new technologies have been widely used is because they have no significant advantage, and we already know how to use the keyboard and mouse.
If a new input device (maybe a nipple?:) ) was introduced which was intuitive, easy to use and had a significant advantage over the current devices, I think it would be picked up in a second.
I was looking at the screen shots for Napster and I felt revulsed and giddy at the same time. Its actually sick when you think about it: The record companies brain wash us into thinking that the canned crap on the radio is good music and that we want it (need it!). Then after the free starter sample (radio) they make us buy it for astronomical prices (they're more like pimps really, whoring the artists and cleaning up - maybe prostitutes get better cuts though). Finally when it comes out for free from alternative sources (legit or not), they have a freak-out and start throwing tantrum-lawsuits around, convincing us that we are all bad people and should be paying them for the honor of being brainwashed and fed shit. And what happens? We do pay them. We pay them $10/mnt (or whatever it is) just to see the crap advertising in their app and listen to their corporatized bottled music, the same crap we were fed on the radio.
Oh well, we wouldn't want to 'steal' now would we?
As with the other legal services, songs purchased on Napster are more reliably a higher quality than those downloaded from a peer-to-peer network where you're never quite sure if the file was properly labeled, ripped on an underperforming computer or contained a virus.
A song that contains a virus?! Wow, I'd love to be the inventor of that!
It uses a normal LCD display, with a second LCD display in front. Each pixel on the second one has 2 states (solid or transparent), and it blocks light from wither one eye or the other, therefore allowing different pictures to be sent to each eye. I believe the downside is you have to double the refresh...

Leave it to an MS sound format to be able to execute malicious code...
Seriously, what need do WMA files have to be anything other than sound?
