I remember taking a Visual Basic class in college. Drop objects on a form and define pieces of code that connects the objects. There wasn't any real programming being done. I can't imagine why you would want to run it on Linux. Isn't the command line enough?
It's a language with variables, objects, events, subfunctions, etc. How isn't that programming? And what does that have to do with command line and linux? You do realize linux is full of GUI apps, right?
Unless you want to do what the article said when you're travelling, why do you care if it's real? It's a cool story regardless of its authenticity (sp?)
On the other end of the spectrum, we know how to produce hydrogen, but have no idea how to distribute it and store it in the car safely. There's no infrastructure for these.
And this is with so much more processor horsepower, sufficient to run its MPEG movie recording and MP3 music playback, do EDGE web browsing, etc.!
They do have more horsepower, but you have to consider many of those features are built into a chip that does from CPU tasks to LCD driving and MP3 decoding. It doesn't necesarily have lots of general-purpose horsepower.
Can't the inventor of the Internet show up to all his conferences by way of video and never travel?
When I read inventor of the Internet I thought "WTF, Tim B. Lee is preaching about global warming?". Anyway...
It's hard to convince people to do stuff and dramatically change their ways of life if you're a face in a screen. For example, I recently read that Al Gore was coming to my country to talk about global warming. Do you think it would've made the news if he was just going to show up in a screen?
That new anti-piracy trailer you see in theater's and in DVDs these days was made for Hong Kong & Singapore a few years ago
The one with the cool music, which shows people commiting real crimes, and says "you wouldn't steal a car", etc? I thought that one was just a creation of my country's suposed "legal software" agency:)
I personally am sick of the "old school" commercial spots and would trade them for anything any day.
Give them to me! I'll gladly give you all those stupid commercials where they sing or use celebrities. Hell, my favorite commercial is an olive oil (Marolio) commercial. It's a picture of the bottle with a voice saying "Marolio..." and the company's motto. Lasts 10 seconds, burns the brand into your memory, and doesn't make you hate it.
So what should Dell have done? Transfer him to the legal department -- no, he wasn't calling with any legal business. (He was probably offered the option anyway.) Let him tell his tale to a non-lawyer -- fine, he did. Have a non-lawyer discuss or even acknowledge what he said -- no way in hell.
Transfer him to a manager. Ever been to a restaurant and called the manager to complain? It's his job to smile to the customer, acknowledge, and kick some ass around the company so someone will deal with his case.
You know the best part? These people say that, by taking out a spammer, you improve millions of lives. That's false, since you only removed 1 source of spam, of the hundreds there must be. What's worse, 1 million people getting 1 more message a day, or a couple people being killed or raped?
That is to obscurity what camouflage is to obscurity... why tell the enemy your defenses and let him prepare, when you can let him run into them, unprepared?
I'm wondering, though, if many items that have a normal wall plug with "built in" power supply, could be built to use, say, a central 12v source (my alarm clock/radio comes to mind)
--see the the ratio of non-native people of African descent in Latin America.
I'm sure there were tons of slaves here. There are also lots of black people in brazil. But what happened to the former slaves in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay? Honestly, the only "african"-black people I see nowadays are native african gold sellers.
While it's great they want to promote CFLs, I think this is excessive. What if you want to light an art room or something? Maybe there are exceptions for cases like those, but wouldn't it be better if they created incentives to use CFLs or maybe tax incandescents?
While I somewhat like the idea, PLEASE give them abiword and the other spreadsheet app. Maybe your experience is different but openoffice has always been kinda slow for me.
*sob*

For starters, it's in COLORS!!!!!!

Then forbid people with criminal records from carrying guns, let people without criminal records carry them (is the current law like this?)

Their big power consumption doesn't change their popularity.
