  1. Good on Chrome 15 Overtakes IE 8 For Top Browser Spot · · Score: 2

While my personal preference is for Safari, as a designer, this is good news, on two fronts. First, anything that knocks IE market share down is a great thing because I, like every web designer out there, am sick and tired of uttering the phrase "it works perfectly in every browser _except_ IE..." Second, I think it's good because, pure and simple, I think the Webkit engine is phenomenal. Both Safari and Chrome have deep HTML5/CSS3 compatibility and, more importantly, they are capable of things that allow web designers to do some really spectacular things. While I would love to see Safari market share increase, I'll be very happy to see webkit market share increase any way it can.

I know I'm going to be modded troll but, sorry, that's what your "interesting" post sounds like - you prefer to release to Android first because you can quickly and rapidly fix problems rather than taking the time to properly build and test your app before releasing it into the market.

I'm even going to go one step further in my near-trollish commentary: you're one of the reasons that Android users are less inclined to actually spend money on an app because developers likely rush them out whereas iOS developers take extra time to make sure it's "just right" before putting it out because it's such a headache to fix problems. iOS users are more confident in a reliable app while Android users are faced with buggy initial releases. I don't know, call me crazy (or a troll, as you wish), but I wouldn't rush out to spend money on an Android app if your view is indicative of the majority of Android developers....

Simply put, I'm stunned at the failure rate for the 360 and I'm blown away that people tolerated it as much as they did. I really wish I was exaggerating when I say every friend I know who has one had it fail at least once. Usually it was a disk drive failure (kind of important for a disk-driven device...) but I really don't know of anyone who didn't suffer at least once failure.

I know I amount to anecdotal evidence but when I see that large a collection of device failures (and the friends of whom I speak are spread across multiple countries from coast to coast so it isn't a local phenomenon), I have to think I'm actually not anecdotal evidence - I feel I'm witnessing a significant trend.

The most important thing Microsoft needs to focus on with a new XBox is build quality. Everything else should come a distant second.

I'm a diehard Apple fanboy so I'll almost always love a story that knocks Android down a peg or two but, seriously, this is the biggest load of crap possible.

It's simply one of two things - he's either entirely out of touch or he's spreading FUD. Given that I don't believe he's out of touch (like some CEO's recently who have spouted off some of the dumbest nonsense that I think I've ever heard...), that leaves FUD. And Microsoft/Balmer has a long history of doing this so it's not the least bit surprising.

What I do find surprising is how obvious he is about it. Love him or hate him, when Steve Jobs talked down about a competitor's product, it always seemed like he believed what he was saying (obviously I can't speak for what he did or did not believe but, for example, if he said he didn't think there was a market for 7" tablets, thereby saying all 7" tablets weren't going to sell well, you believed he believed there wasn't a market for 7" tablets). Balmer doesn't even make his trash talking remotely believable. How am I supposed to believe that Android is too confusing to use if I know he doesn't believe it? In fact, his inability to convince me that he believes what he's saying tells me that Android is not, in fact, too confusing to use (something I already knew, but now I know it even more... :).

Not only are his comments FUD but they're
obviously FUD. Anyone who believes the snake oil that he's selling is a fool (one of the many reasons I believe Ballmer's days as CEO of Microsoft are nearing an end...).

Yes, I know it's easy to blow off this story or the icons or the shape or that individual story and that other individual story but, for most people, when viewing all of these examples as a whole, the picture becomes very clear - Samsung copies Apple every chance they get. Time and time and time and time again, Samsung is copying Apple.

When are people going to realize this?

You don't have to like Apple to acknowledge the truth when it's obvious. Feel free to hate Apple all you want, as seems so en vogue on /. lately, but you demonstrate a disconnect from reality when you stick your head in the sand and ignore the simple fact that Samsung really is copying Apple.
