Would I want to use windows - especially if it ad supported? It comes with any computer you buy, and if I wanted a free OS.. well we don't even have to go there.

The biggest problem with wiring a house, or any building, with DC power is that a short anywhere in the circuit will burn up the entire circuit. That was Telsa's main argument for the AC power distribution system. It was also Edisons argument *for* a DC power distribution system. Whenever all the lines burned up guess whose company cities would have to pay to come and dig up all the lines and replace them.;)
I run Linux and use OSS almost exclusively at home, work and school. If greedy software companies want to push more people to Open Source it can only help. After all, companies only control the market if consumers allow it.
and for the record. If you read my post I was referring to having the capability built into word. If people want to hunt and peck through menus they still can. Even Latex GUIs offer you every symbol and formatting option in a menu.
I realize that they have put a lot of time and talent into Office 12.. but- The way office applications work, in general, needs rethinking. Why is it that I can work twice as fast in VI (ancient unix editor) and work without concern of formatting (and still have beautifully formatted documents), and use math symbols and other non-keyboard symbols with great ease (ie, not going through a menu/toolbar everytime I want one). There are ways to combine the power and intuitiveness of programs like VI and Latex and still make it easy to use. Hell if MS added Latex syntax support into MS Office, I'd probably use it- so much easier/faster to type \fac{numerator}{denominator} then hunting and pecking through menus to write a simple fraction. And no, learning that simple syntax is NO harder than learning where to find it in the menus.
Microsoft's energy is not applied towards innovation, it is applied towards improvement on other (sometimes bad to begin with) ideas.
Oh God no!! Gee, I wonder what taxpayers pay every year for the government's use of M$ software? A temporary expense to provide more affordable, more open standards accross our government is a GOOD THING. And Let me tell you Open Source knows a little something about a GOOD THING(R).
Honestly, do the moderators on here even read the articles? How the hell is the parent post "offtopic"? Don't be modding me off topic, I'm pointing out moderation abuse. That is always a valid topic.
There should be a certain level of understanding when required by office users when they are given access to things like email, computer systems, etc. If they can't learn and function in their role at work... maybe they should be looking for a new job.
Ignorance is self afflicted.
umm. All of the Linux shells you've mentinoed run great on my friends 466MHz celeron... if that's what you consider fast maybe you need to take a trip down to your local Best Buy, CompUSA, Frys... eh. whatever you have nearby.
oh idk.. lets see. sri lanka's acceptance of open source software in big business perhaps? your a troll. obviously we have a 'cracked up' mod system since you have yet to be modded one.

Yes! Latex!! I use it all the time in linux for my discrete mathematics course. I've found myself using it for everyday papers too now. Love it.
I use linux on both my home computer and work computer, as well as my notebook.
wait no!! Dont!!! It was an honest mistake!!! (*&* it.. i'm probably too late. ;)

Yeah. The company I work for uses it everyday to track... bugs. ;)
My car was broken into... Can I sue Pontiac for not making my windows thicker and my door locks stronger?

I agree... But I still hate windows.

Did I mention pricing at all? Did I mention it even once in my post? Your post hardly justifies wasting the ten seconds I'm taking to reply to it.
"Standards" designed to make a competitors entry into any given market controlled by microsoft impossible."
An endless FUD compaign against competitors
and choosing to stifle innovation in self interest of controlling the direction of the market to areas they already control.
