That said, Redhat gives a lot of effort into Fedora even while it runs its own business. Solaris has gone opensource. Apple is somewhat opensource on some projects. IBM is a story of its own. I don't think going public inherently means they'll leave GPL and opensource behind (nor that you claimed so ;) ).

I think we should wait and see. I try to be cautiously optimistic.

I know about a manager who said the ideal callcenter had only temps, because they could be replaced with new "huh" people as soon as they started saying "aaaaahah".

It is NOT irrelevant what operating system one runs, otherwise more might switch to LINUX and UNIX, but their graphical enviroments have only recently become more user friendly as well. And case colour and design actually has an impact to some extent. Would you buy a bright sheer pink computer, sit in a room with dark brown walls and a brightly blue floor? Maybe you would, maybe you'd hate it. Would you buy a super powerful computer that had a black keyboard with medium grey keys? You might know touch typing, but it'd still be annoying to some people at least if it got even slightly dark... I think we agree. :)

What options do I have if someone attacks me using martial arts unprovoked? Beyond contacting the police, can I go to his teacher or would that be bad form? My argument that I completely fumbled was that I believe that when Belgium and the Netherlands were taken, the front grew too big for France to effectively defend and their choice to surrender, as far as I have understood it, was about saving their population from harm, which I consider a noble concept in some ways.

According to a Teach12.com lecture on Churchill, Chamberlain and other important british politicans were actually actively considering that Britain surrender for the same principle - less loss of human lives.

And having looked more into the dutch history, I can only offer my apologise again.
My gf is french/swedish, its annoying to her and I find its a bit annoying personally as well to observe that she gets hit with the "coward" stick for things she had nothing to do with or the "rude" stick in advance by people who don't know her. That's not an excuse to hurt your feelings, but it was an episode combined with being sleepy and reading a comment a bit too fast that lead to one of those "in the moment" mistakes.

Btw, I absolutely adore Amsterdam. I went there two years ago and people there were absolutely charming and very helpful and everyone knew english. We went to the marine museum and tried some of the excellent fish meals and had a splendid time.

The swastika is one of the great losses.
In the norse and in asia its considered a symbol of health, wellbeing and peace.

The nazis flipped it (mirrored it) and used it as a symbol for themselves. There has been some outcries in asia by western tourists who see 1000 year old temples with swastikas (the correct way) and cry "nazi" (even though the nazis perverted an ancient good symbol).

And I have heard that asians bemoan that us perverting the swastika is our problem and they shouldn't be forced to change their view on this symbol because of whatever foolishness we did. Which I agree with. The swastika in itself carries no special anti-zionist meaning that I know off, but was considered a nazi symbol in general. I'd like them to be able to turn it the correct way and be allowed to use it again.

Another concept they ruined is the idea of heil. Heil is actually a very nice greeting, one of the best you can give someone. Now its useless. If someone says "Heil whoever" the real meaning of the word is not so likely to be considered.

I emailed them about it and they explained that its because using WMV, "the majority of end users don't need to install software to make it work". Since this is the state TV channel though they have a mandate to make sure their stuff plays on as many platforms as possible. In an interview, unfortunately I don't remember the source now, a representant from NRK said the only problem they had with using Apples video standard was the lack of DRM that they needed on some programs (like sports and movies with copyright).

I do however feel that its more likely we'll see Virtual PC for Mac now REALLY kick into gear and Microsoft loves selling Mac people a (for a change) totally fast PC emulator with a Windows licence that will let Mac users run the occasional windows program but still work on their Mac. That's imho a more likely Microsoft happy scenario.
