    I'm not pro Bush, or pro anyone for that matter. I don't know whether the current adminstration is right, and I'll keep my opinions to myself on those matters anyway. However, as long as more crap like this is pushed out, and applauded as truth, we'll continue to have problems in this country.

    Functional language are only good in theory. Sure, you can easily write programs in them, but they abstract over how the program is executed. And the programs are going to be executed in an imperative manner; machine code is imperative, remember? Bullshit. They're not used because the flood of people into CS for the money are too stupid to understand it. Functional langauges are a much better choice BECAUSE they abstrat a lot of the details away. Thus, there's a MASSIVE performance loss when a functional programming language is executed on any of the existing processors. Because the compilers can't think and optimise the code to best fit the imperative model. Where as the human being s can. That's why we should stick to imperative programming languages. Wrong again jerkoff. You might want to do some research before spouting off at the mouth. A compiler can be designed to optimize a functional language, and they have been The day someone actually invents a function processor, we could start promoting these fringe langauges. Till then, let's keep Haskell as part of CS811 What like the scheme processor? Or Lisp machines? It's already been done. I wish you children would stfu and learn something before voicing opinions on topics you aren't even remotely qualified to speak on.

    Don't even know where to start. Modern car engines are extremly complicated and compact, and they contain a LOT of stuff that wasn't there on your ol' chevy. You might know the error, but you even can't find/reach the component!

    My use of two monitors is similar. But I have two machiens at work as well. One running Linux, where all real work gets done. One running 2000, where I keep the superfluous stuff, Outlook, IE, Winamp, ect. Best of both worlds. Though if I could move away from Outlook I'd be happier.

    Bullshit. I said nothign about allready knowing everythign there is to know. Human intelligence is a program like any other. It's nothing more than a tremendous amount of if-then-else's.

    Computers actually LEARN too. Most modern chess software, and many AI paradigms are based around learning. You might want to read up on the subject before spouting off.

    JSP is fantastically simpler than "J2EE", which is the recommended-by-Sun way of building applications, but still it seems to be too complex for seniors and graduate students in the MIT computer science program, despite the fact that they all had at least one semester of Java experience in 6.170.

    So what this jackass is really saying is that the quality of the students and teachers at MIT is currently pretty piss poor.
    Java is not my favorite language (and Web Programming is about the most boring thing in the world AFAIC) but I have to use it. I picked up JSP in less than a week, greenhorns we've hired need less than a month.
    Sounds to me like they should be investigating the professors for not being able to convey a simple concept even when they have months to do it.
