  1. Re:Stupid Title on Why The U.S. PC Market is On The Decline · · Score: 1

Its not too hard to see why computers will be less profitable in the coming years. They are a commodity item and there are many low-cost Asian companies that Apple and Dell will have a very hard time competing with. Quality won't matter for most people. If I can buy 3 Lenovo machines for the cost of one Apple, guess what I buy, regardless of quality.

In the end, it won't really change anything. The UN Security Council will continue to do what they do best: nothing. It will take a good 3 weeks for them to even agree on exactly what problem they're supposed to be discussing. After much debate from 3rd world dictatorships, they'll pass some meaningless resolutions that most of the world will ignore. Same shit, different day. Could the UN possibly be any less relevant?

Allowing other people who you don't even know to use your internet connection is just plain dumb. Downloading music is the least of the problems you could face: what if they downloaded kiddie porn or used your connection to communicate with "terrorist groups"? You might get out of it after a nice friendly chat with an FBI agent, but you might find yourself fighting criminal charges. For your own good, close that connection. Free open WiFi sounds like a great idea, but doesn't work out so well in real life.

You know, don't you, that the bank keeps your account info in a computer? It doesn't matter if you use online banking or not, a cracker can get to your account info if the bank does not maintain adequate security. And most banks don't. Why would someone try to break an SSL connection when they could just call up and trick the bank's phone monkey into giving out your account info? I'm all in favor of good security, but you're just inconveniencing yourself for no gain in security. By the way, if you knew what can be done to someone's bank account when the wrong person gets ahold of their debit card info you would never use that card again. At least credit card fraud victims aren't required to pay for the fraud and be without their money for 3 months.

OK, I've figured it all out now. The guy has a teenage punk for a son with no regard for the law, and he's not much help. The cops decide they're going to teach him a lesson when he kicks them out of his house. Seeing as he lives in the ghetto, he has no civil rights. Yes, that's correct, ask anyone who lives in a ghetto of any city and they'll tell you that civil rights don't exist there. They take this as an opportunity to walk all over him, using the cameras as an excuse to make a felony arrest just to get back at him. There's no legal basis for this at all, and even less basis for the charges against his wife. It will all get thrown out and he'll sue the cops since they've made it so easy for him to do. The losers will be the taxpayers as usual. Moral of the story, if you live in the ghetto and have a delinquent son, don't expect nice treatment from the cops. But if they're stupid enough to do what these cops did you'll likely get a nice payoff.

There's also the power of living off a name. The Best Buy name has, for some unknown reason, gained popularity among Americans. Whatever they sell, a good number of people will buy. They know they can milk the name for all its worth and even if they piss off every single customer, they'll still sucker in a few more. Many formerly great companies like Nike and Sony do this as well. Usually its too late to actually fix the problems once business finally starts to fall off.
