Space is very big, and finding stuff there is pretty hard. Designing a satellite which can keep transmitting a signal (so that it will actually be found) for two thousand years is not at all easy - solar panels degrade long before this and even radiothermal generators don't last much longer than a hundred years.

So maybe use something like crystal oscillation and non-electric amplification (yes, there is such a thing) to generate a beacon signal?

I would think that it would be some kind of incentive for someone / something to invent a way of reading it. There is already a 6X lens on there. Using that concept, they might reach the 100X mark in a short time period. The better they get, the more they will learn.

One would imagine they'd have included instructions for making said 100x or 750x lenses that were readable with the 6x lens. A form of boot-strapping, if you will.

FWIW, despite your Flamebait mod, I suspect you have a valid point. Different races have different cues for emotion, different mouth shapes for sounds, etc... you've all heard, "they all look the same" and we all kinda do when you're not used to picking up the differences (yes, this goes both ways, or so I'm told). Don't forget the other taxes along the way. Taxes on the goods when imported, taxes on the freight cost + fuel surcharge, taxes on the staff wages (and on everything they spend), taxes on the business profits, taxes ad nauseum. A small increase in tax rates can cause a larger increase in overall price very easily - it's not as simple as US price + 20% VAT, particularly in more socialist countries (for better or worse). In many cases, expensive software such as this bought for business use will be an expense, so can be deducted from the tax bill, and with so much tax to pay anyway the software is essentially free.

That all said, many companies do still work under the delusion of being the "exclusive importer", where 20 years ago they were the sole source for a particular brand or product, so they used the "pick a number and double it" method to set their pricing. Fortunately the internet has given customers more choices, and these companies are a dying breed.
