Not to mention XP has that wonderus task based system where it takes, by my count last time I used a PC, 5 steps to even be able to see your files. It takes 1 on OS X, and I don't have to dig through system control panels to do it.
Interesting? Please... this troll isn't any different from the "I don't know what the big deal is about $OPERATING_SYSTEM, I've been waiting here for 30 minutes for it to copy a 17MB file..."
5 steps? Dig through system control panels? Clearly this post was modded up by people who either think it's a good troll or Windows-haters who've never actually USED Windows.
The manual for my rather crappy new Sprint/Nokia 3585i states that if you are concerned about microwave emissions, holding the phone an inch away from your head (rather than mashing it into your ear) would result in virtually nil radiation reaching you.
Yes, but the point of the game is to acquire skills and items. If the service fails to adequately support these functions the user should be reimbursed for the money he spent on the subscription at the very least. Some would argue that he should be compensated for all of the hours he invested in acquiring his collection as well. Seems reasonable enough to me.
"They hope to reduce the risk to XFree86 of incorporating new drivers and features" ????
Idea dislexia? Are they really trying prevent new drivers and features?
Ok, try to follow this:
They hope to reduce the risk to XFree86...
Looks like they want to make something less risky to XFree86. I wonder what it is?...of incorporating new drivers and features
Ah. They want to make the incorporation of new drivers and features seem less risky to the XFree86 project. As in, "See XF86? We put all these features and drivers into our project. It's not so bad!"
Wow. So RedHat gets free karma for creating an ostensibly altruistic fund to defend developers who release GPL software, then they turn around and say "Well, we release GPL code. We'll be taking our money back now, KTHXBYE"
I don't like the ones that glorify antisocial behavior, like Grand Theft Auto and Vice City. We actually had a rule at Atari, which seems kind of quaint now, that you could blow up a tank, a plane, a car--but you couldn't do violence against a human.
Outlaw most certainly glorified anti-social behavior and depicted violence against humans.
The vividness of the violence shown in current games is not at issue - Bushnell said he didn't allow any depiction of violence against humans, and yet he did (abstract as it was). He's being a revisionist, and you are being a Bushnell apologist.
It is official; Slashdot now confirms: SCO is dying
One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered SCO Group when IBM and SuSE confirmed that SCO is full of shit. Coming on the heels of a recent RedHat lawsuit which plainly states that SCO has been spreading lies, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. SCO is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by failing dead last in karma rankings on Slashdot.
You don't need to be a Kreskin to predict SCO's future. The hand writing is on the wall: SCO faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for SCO because SCO is dying. Things are looking very bad for SCO. As many of us are already aware, SCO executives continues to dump their shares. Red ink flows like a river of blood.
SCO is sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If SCO is to survive at all it will be among Slashdot trolls. SCO continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, SCO is dead.

And [Java] continues to be hyped, and is being used less and less, as the speed continues to hamper it.
Java is still some 40 times faster than Python. As hardware speed continues to obey Moore's law, performance per clock cycle becomes less important. (For many areas of computing anyway.)
Re:So how much better is this really?
on
Reiser4 Benchmarks
·
· Score: 3, Informative
Since these are times, I assume lower numbers are better? If so, they why are they usually in red in the report?
The columns marked B/A and C/A are the performance ratios of ext3 data journaling and ext3 to reiserV4 respectively. A ratio greater than 1 means more time was needed for the operation than reiserV4 while a ratio less than 1 means faster performance.
Seems that if this is really happening that the RIAA and the major labels would pull the music from the artists they "represent" to punish the store...
We already have 65534 IP address for each human being. They are 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255
But in a 32-bit address space there are only some 4 billion "real" addresses available.
The current world population is around 6 billion. Granted, not everyone on the planet lives in their own home, and many nations don't have the resources to enjoy the technology saturation most slashdot readers enjoy, but you can see that your solution won't last for long.
Paying SCO for a license to run Linux in case they prove their claims in a court of law is about as sound an investment as going to the horse track and betting on a shetland pony being ridden by a Louie Anderson. Plus the pony is a quadruple amputee. And is also dead.
Question to the person who modded parent:
How can it be "overrated" if no one has modded it up?
Here's hoping you get meta-moderated into the godless oblivion from which you came...
I guess complaining about moderation is hardly new.
I thought it was funny AC.
Maybe they should give readers the ability not to display front page articles posted by particular editors.
From the post:
Thanks.

Malarkey? Or effective way?
Can someone post a torrent for the newly posted traditional installer for 1.6? (approx 400MB, currently available from fileplanet)
Paranoia! is still being played on the net, thanks to a nifty little Java program named (oddly enough) JParanoia.
You can look for games/players that use JParanoia on paranoia-live.net or paranoia-rpg.com
(Paranoia-Live.net being the better of the two sites.)
Manhunt.
Not to be confused with "Fluffy Bunny in Magical Kingdom" or "Mario Party 8".
Parents who buy their kid Manhunt and then complain about the content should be bitchslapped.
Somehow I think Russia just wanted to make the front page of /.

I propose INL - "I'm No Lawyer / I'm Not a Lawyer"
Let's get the subtle homoeroticism out of

I was hoping to see a response to the question about "un-copy-able" products violating fair use rights of consumers.
They ducked it.

Are there any Bit Torrent links out there?
