It's a very simple call or a personal meeting to a manager at your bank stating that someone ripped you off and you would like your money returned to you.

The company has to do a lot to prove the charge was valid. If they actually ripped you off, then they won't go out of their way to dispute the chargeback.

In fact, this works TOO well. One time I ordered a product from overseas - the payment was processed the next day and I received an email saying the package shipped a few days later. Two weeks go by, no package. I contacted their company with emails and calls where they assured me that the package was shipped. I requested proof of a tracking number or receipt for the shipment, but received no response. I became suspicious of the situation, so I charged it back.

Not only did I get my money returned to me, but a few weeks later the product finally happened to arrive. Oops! But hey, they failed to assure me that I wasn't getting ripped off, so I did whatever I had to do to make sure it didn't happen.

People severely underestimate the power of the consumer.

Every game has a movie equivalent. So what game you wanna pick on? GTA? Then let's go after Goodfellas, Casino, or The Godfather.

You don't like Doom or Quake? Let's go after Aliens.

So in reality, the rating system is just fine. The problem here is that we put people in charge who think it's perfectly acceptable to push their bullshit moral agenda onto everyone else. Another problem is that those in charge are naive and ignorant, and dismiss video games as something "only children play".

If there's really that big of a problem with mature games falling into the hands of younger players, perhaps people should use their head and point the fingers at the parents. When they get the complaint about the game (otherwise, why do they care?), the person filing the complaint should ask the parents, "Where were you and what were you doing to let this happen? You just quoted my first post, and the point remains the same: the blu-ray/HD-DVDs don't have writers yet (elaborated to say: available and affordable to consumers, and widely accepted at THIS point in time), so hyping this next gen disc is pointless.

Ok, so I was wrong in saying they aren't available *at all*. If you really wanted one, the manufacturer-recommended price runs into US $3800.

Which technically still means: not available for general consumer use unless everyone suddenly has a few grand to blow on a writer. Either way, it's not widely accepted and used at this point in time, and won't be for another few years.

You also need to be able to read these discs as well as convince the general public to adopt this format, whether it's for higher quality movies or a reasonable backup solution. The former won't happen because most players don't play the discs yet, and the latter won't happen because it doesn't make sense from a financial standpoint to adopt this technology as opposed to buying a few 350+ gig hard drives.

    4. Is the unit innovative, easy for someone to use as a gaming system and cell phone while keeping in mind portability?

Answer to all of those is a resounding no. The system was horrible. Compared to what already existed, the graphics sucked and the games sucked. It was like taking a giant step backwards in the gaming industry. So who within the company honestly thought such a thing would be a good idea?

Granted game development and being "fun" is left up to the 3rd party developers, but even in taking on a project, "Hey, Nokia wants us to create a game for their new system"... one should think, "We better make this game damn good or we're screwed."

Releasing something less than amazing on a non-popular system is suicide.

I can imagine the same holds true for other various systems as well.

I haven't tried it for anything server based like Apache... but there most certainly is a difference when it comes to graphical apps. Who knows, maybe it's a remote dependency that's out of whack, but I'm sure it'll take some time to sit and piece together exactly what dependency/library is causing it.

And three days to a week? That's a bit exaggerated. What exactly are you installing and on what machines?! I've had basic servers up and running in a matter of hours. Of course, I'm not running them on Pentium 2 300's or anything. If it comes down to it, install the pre-compiled package to get yourself up and running, and while you're up and running, recompile it to mold your system.

I'd really like to see benchmarks of duplicate systems, one running Gentoo (everything compiled) vs. generic package installs because if I could take a logical estimate, I'd say everything compiled runs a good 20% faster than generic install. Some things more than others (ie KDE).

Back in the day I used Slack because I didn't want bloat - just wanted barebones install with working network. Even when it came to installing packages... selecting from a list of pre-compiled bloated binaries is still bloat.

It's not truly optimized for YOUR system.

But there was a downside - say you wanted KDE, you'd have to compile by hand ALL the dependencies. Not fun. But I wasn't gonna sacrifice performance with the pre-compiled binaries.

I'm not bashing Slack, it was a great distro back in the day, but now that Gentoo exists, which gives you infinitely more control over your system not to mention automatic compile/emerge for anything you choose to install, why would you stick with the former?

It just seems counter productive to run a production based system on pre-compiled packages OR compiling everything yourself by hand and dealing w/ the dependencies.
