I don't think there will be an end-all standard.

Most playes can read both + and - discs, so it's not really a problem, and since there are an equal amount of both formats floating around, I highly doublt they'll make a final decision about which one survives and which one dies out. Too many people would be stuck with unusable discs.

I don't really get why people compare these to Beta/VHS. It's really nothing alike. I can't say I ever saw a player that could play both Beta and VHS. Both my PS2 and a DVD drive for my desktop, which were purchased over two years ago way before DVD burners were popular, can both read + and - discs.

I say go buy a dual format DVD burner.

I'm thinking I should give it a while. I hope it's better than MySQL, because, in my opinion, MySQL is overrated.

I've recently started a project using MySQL because we want to get away from the ridiculously overpriced licensing that MS makes you get. I'm not trying to be a troll or anything, but I'm trying to give a realistic viewpoint by someone who's used to MS crap, but really wants to switch over to open source.

I love Open Source and I definintely try to keep an open mind about it (hey, whatever gets the job done at are more efficient and cost-effective manner is good stuff) and am by no means a Windows/Linux zealot.

Take a look at MySQL's current state. Way behind on the times... for example: it *still* doesn't have stored procedures. Do you realize how annoying it is hardcoding SQL statements? There's complete lack of subquerying, which really makes it a pain to do certain calculations often requiring additional queries, which is extremely inefficient (although I do understand that it's currently in alpha).

Things like this.. make me think twice. If these useful features haven't even been implemented yet, then how can I (someone who's used to using MS crap) trust it?

I'm gonna give PostgreSQL a try and hopefull it has more functionality (and stability) than MySQL!

You'll see this crap in action first-hand if you ever buy a house. They come up with every excuse in the book not to lend you the money :)

Not exactly true. Credit is bullshit and determining how one gets credit is bullshit and completely nonsensical and inconsistent.

I think income also has a say so in getting loans.

Take me, for example. I bought a house last year. At that point, I had absolutely NO credit history and 5 derogatory marks that weren't even valid: companies who are trigger happy and are willing to put invalid "delinquencies" on your credit report. (I think this should be illegal)

Example: I sent a payment in on time to my phone company. The check was lost in the mail, and two weeks later they put in a collection notice that appeared on my credit report. They didn't even mail me a "late" notice or anything. Went directly to a collection agency. This should be illegal because now, even though I've disputed it, it remains on my credit report for the next 7 years even though it wasn't late (the second I got the notice, I paid over the phone). I always pay my bills on time every month and have never been late. This was the only time.

All 5 marks on my credit report are like this. One from the phone company, another from a gas company claiming I owe $ from my first apartment who COVERED the gas bill. I later proved this to the gas company, had to pay the $97 anyway because I was buying a house and needed it cleared off ASAP, but the "paid collection" remains on my report even after disputing it. There are others quite like this, but I won't get into those because they're pretty much the same thing except w/ hospitals and landlords losing paperwork.

That said, I make quite a good amount of money. A friend of mine, while unemployed, went into Best Buy and got approved for an $1800 limit. At the same time I applied, I got declined. I was at my job for over 3 years at the time.

So... how can I have received a loan for my new house (at a very nice interest rate, no $ down) but it's nearly impossible for me to get a credit card?

Right now to anyone who reviews my report, it appears that I'm high risk even though I'm not. I always have paid my bills on time and have never done anything "wrong" that would make anyone decline me for a card.

The whole "credit" system is bullshit and needs to have a complete overhaul, that or they need to start accounting for all the times people are on time with EVERYTHING non-credit related including apartment rent and utility bills.

  19. People expect too much. on 'Matrix Revolutions' Opens Today · · Score: 2, Insightful

It's very rare to have something as extraordinary as the first Matrix movie. It was a great movie and will no doubt be a classic.

But to two or more classics in one series? It's not going to happen... ever. The only exception is Star Wars (Episodes 4-6). They are no doubt sci-fi classics. It was also one big story split up into 3 parts (or was it 6 parts but he only made the last 3?)

People went into the Phantom Menace expecting to be utterly wowed as they were when they were kids (okay, and some adults) seeing the original Star Wars movies. Here's a tip: it's never going to be as good as the original. It's nothing but an extension of the original story for die-hard fans. That and good marketing.

Just because a movie doesn't live up to the hype of the original doesn't make it a "bad" movie. Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones weren't nearly as good as the original Star Wars movies, but they weren't HORRIBLE movies.

I highly doubt that the original Matrix was created with two sequels in mind. Perhaps the Matrix could've done what Star Wars did if they elaborated more with the first movie and made it longer to split into 3 parts.

But really, it's just a sequel. Hype (caused by fans) is what "ruins" a movie. No, it won't be as good as the original Matrix, but it's not a BAD movie. Reloaded wasn't a BAD movie. It was simply over-hyped.

It happens with everything. Movies, music, video games, tv... something good and original comes out and if the second installment doesn't make you crap your pants like the original did, it's merely "okay" or "old".
