I worked at a dealership back in 1998, right out of High School. I was amazed, on a daily basis, how far computers in cars had come since my 1979 Volvo had been made.
In a lot of cases, we could tell the telemetry on the car in the last week. Also cars adjusting themselves to the driver. (Pretty annoying when you loan your car to your lead foot mate of teenager).
Cars have, without a doubt, come just as far again since then.
I also have to agree that the mechanics of cars won't be seeing too may improvements in the next decade or longer. The real advances will come in fine tuned computer controlling of all the support systems. Fual, air, spark, all adjusted based on temp, humidity, how hard the driver is pushing the car, and many other factors.
I don't see any reason why a straight gas car can't do over 100 MPG, given the right fuel.
But, geeks like to feel important some times, so they, instead of helping the current system be better, they just make thier own thing. Which is ultimately destructive to the community, because that means there are less quality in the networks and people, usually.
I am more for restricting violence than sex. But, i think it all should be throttled back.
I hate watching TV and seeing someone's head blow off, then switching channels and seeing someone's breasts blurred out, or someone getting bleeped saying "shit".
Should the governing body of the land be held back from bringing the modern information age to the heartland of america?
I think that's the real issue.
If a private company wants to be competitive in areas that the government is already supplying the service, they will just have to step up the customer service and value added services.
If it were free, at least I'd have some.
I have not been covered by any insurance sine 1998.
I fall into that middle ground where I don't make enough to be able to afford it, but not little enough to get a handout.
Since 1998 I've broken my arm, had my apendix out, been diagnosed with spinal arthritus, had dozens of stitches, and exhaustion a couple times.
It's been spendy.
I'd be gladly pay another 2% of my income to healthcare, and take some money from the defence budget, if I could go to the doctor whenever I got sick.
As it is right now, I only go if I think I'm in danger.
I don't know why either. But we did. I'm not sure if my parents knew or not about the first grade, but I called them about the 11th grade one. They said they didn't mind if I didn't. Well, back then my world was small and I didn't really think there was anything wrong with it.
Oh well, 5 years later I gave them my prints for a third time, by choice.
So, that says nothing about how cool it runs, but how well it dissapates heat.
The Powerbook radiates heat through it's case, while the Mac Mini is either keeping it internaly, or venting it in a more focused manner. (exhaust fan)
So, you're saying is the people, not the cars? I'd have to agree that's a huge issue as well.
:)
maybe computer controls to limit the trottle that can be used? Maybe only allowing a certain rate of throttle increase at a time.
of course, that'd be sort of dangerous.
Eh, I'm not convinced. If people are not driving like they do now on freeways, gas milages go up greatly. Like at 55MPH, or so.

Right on the money.
I have high hopes, and low expectations for this movie.
I hope it is not as bad as it probably will be.
Nope, nothing wrong with FreeNode.

As humans, personify almost all machines we come in close contact with. So, why would our house be any different?
It's just a machine though, whatever we build.

Yes, shocking.
:)
Maybe this is a sign.
UMD?
Unloader of Mass Destruction?!?!?!
OMFG!!
Sony = Terrorism!
I'm sorry, I let the media take over my body for a moment. I'm okay now.
Nothing.
People that really want them will get them. Normal consumers, won't go through the efforts.

I'm sure that site would be interesting, if it were up . . .
I don't know where your're buying those from, but I got mine for $50 USD.
Just buy a grip of WRT54G APs, get your choice of custom firmware, turn up the wattage a tad, and use WDS.
Then, spread them evenly. I'm sure it'd work famously.
If it were free, at least I'd have some.

Bob in accounting was 5 minutes late to work today. Google work force losing that drive to succeed?
Yeah, google is hot news I guess. People just love to know the stupidest stuff.
For such a venture, I'm going to need a grant or sponsorship.
You should look into this game.
Many of the points you bring up are not valid any longer.
The official steering wheel and pedals are pretty wicked for GT4. I'm hoping they sell a package with it included.
Eh!
Nothing has excited me until now.

Kind of odd though, eh?
It's at my my local Thriftway, with live cashiers.
But, many local stores have at least a couple unattended lines.
In fact, I'm going out and buying a PS2 just for this game.
