Not at all. A VPN connection is something that any OS/desktop should be able to quickly and easily. Windows has had it for years, there's no excuse at this point for Linux to not have it.
Good point. It was a broadband connection on the desktop, a wireless card on the laptop and I used NAT translation in the vmware install.
My bad for not including the details in the review. Sorry. I'll see what I can do about adding that in.
Are you referring to my install? I put it on a laptop (dual boot with XP), desktop (another dual boot) and in a vmware VM running under Windows XP.
I think three different installs covered it nicely.
For my message board, no. It's just Beehive. There's no other CMS involved. You don't need anything else with Beehive. The tools are quite powerful enough to deal with obnoxious users.
Heh,heh, heh. I got a good chuckle off of that one. I had completely forgotten that awful TV special thing.
Good lord, let's hope Star Wars on TV is a LITTLE bit better than that. LOL
Just to try to save Kerry's lame ass? That's absurd. Good for Nader. We need MORE third party participation and ballot placement.
We also need more third party inclusion in the "debates". Right now we don't have real debates, we have a "commission" run by the Republicrats that deliberately excludes third party candidates.
I've got a couple of boxes with XP on them but I usually use Linux. So I've decided to just sit this out for a while and leave the XP boxes as is. I prefer not to be Microsoft's guinea pig.
I just got a large Sony LCD and it's terrific. Cost me a mint but it's well worth it. It's very hard to use a smaller CRT or LCD now.
Considering how much time we all spend in front of our monitors, it's worth spending a few extra bucks for the comfort and space of a nice LCD for sure.
The Beehive forum software has a terrific admin control called "worm" that lets you quietly isolate problem users. They don't know that the only people that see their messages are your admins. Everybody else sees their messages as deleted.
You can download Beehive here. You can also check it out on my message board too.
I can't help it. I have wanted them for so long that I'll just deal with the fact that it's the special edition.
Plus I'm getting older so I think I'm starting to forget some of the originals anyway.;-)
Why bother watching it in the first place? It's become so commercial that the athletic spirit it's supposed to embody seems to have been lost to an orgy of advertising and product endorsements (for the people who win the medals).
Thanks but no thanks. I'd rather play UT 2004 than sit through the olypics.
I'm actually looking forward to e-voting. I'm sick of the crappy, ancient lever machines they use here for voting.
I feel like I'm in the 19th century when I'm using them. I think we'll eventually get the e-voting security stuff worked out and it can't come too soon.
It's ridiculous to blame the companies for actions that users are taking. It's like blaming the phone company for people who use the telephone for illegal activities.
Definitely time to make sure our voices are heard by the politicians. Be sure to contact your congressman and senators. Also your local politicians. No point in being silent about this kind of foolishness.
I'm actually the CM over at ET. Loyd, Dave and Jason are our hardware gurus. I'm new to DIY for my own PCs so it's a whole new world in some respects to me.
Thank you though for the warmth.;-)

Hmmm...I think I'm detecting some sarcasm in your post. Am I wrong? ;)
Great stuff. My hosting company uses it and it works extremely well. Filters out tons of crap for me. Nice to see a new version out.

It's Lucas' thing. If he wants to change things then more power to him. He's got a vision and he's following it...for good or ill.

No problem. There's a new version coming out sometime in the next month or so too.

I've got one of these and I sleep well at night. :-)

I like GAIM, my favorite IM software. Works well on Linux and Windows. Much better than AOL's software, that's for sure.
You just described pretty much how Beehive does it. Great forum software. I love the admin controls.

Hey, no problem. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and I'm glad some got a good chuckle out of the article. :-)
Hey, fark you man. ;-)
Thanks for the positive feedback and support. You're a good egg. :-)

Thankfully my editor has a better sense of humor than you, apparently. ;-)
