How many people here read Aljazeera? Read the English version sometime - it really gives you insight into how much hate the average Muslim has for the US. It doesn't matter what the topic is, the US is on the bad side. Muslim good, everyone else bad.
I read Aljazeera nearly every day. And unless we are reading two different versions somehow, you have not accurately portrayed the website.
It's funny. Ok, it's not funny at all... it's fucking sad. But I came on the computer right after watching "V for Vendetta" and what do I see? The god-damn government arresting some 12 year-olds, and TAKING THEIR FUCKING DNA because they were playing in a tree.
PLAYING. IN. A. TREE.
DNA.
TREE.
Jesus on bicycle, we are all fucking doomed. Every last one of us. When I see posts here saying that the kids will be better off, it makes me want to weep, then it makes me want to beat the hell out of someone. Something is very wrong with this world. And as pathetic as it is, it's also true: people are getting what they deserve. People are bending over and asking for it.
This is a compelling statement. It implicitly states that violent sports aren't violence, in the eyes of the study. Tackling a football player inside a computer game isn't violent as long as its in the context of the game. Why is this?
Because the authors of the study never played sports?
The idea that all tackles in football and all checks in hockey are initiated with the intent to stop the opponent without causing injury is either hopelessly naive or outrageously ignorant. Or both.
I simply said that I felt her teaching style and my learning style did not mesh well, and that I personally found the text in use to be of questionable value. My point was made, this faculty member knew exactly what I was talking about, and I did not make myself look disrespectful or that I was not taking any responsibility for any problems that I might have with the professor or course.
But, I suppose that's what a little maturity does for you.
So, you lied. You believed one thing and said something else. Why is that mature?
You were asked a straight-forward question, and if I had been the one asking the question I would have expected an honest, straight-forward answer, not a lot of politicking. If I didn't expect an honest answer, I wouldn't have asked the question in the first place.
I dunno, I looked at some of that art, and while somewhat impressive, none of it reminded me of the best art happening right now in books. At all.
I'll take George Perez, Jose-Luis Garcia Lopez, Chris Claremont, Phil Jimenez, Ed Benes, Jim Lee, and many others over what I am likely to see on the Web anytime soon.
The lack of a cohesive universe also hurts a lot of webcomics. That doesn't matter to a lot of people, but I like the fact that I can open a copy of Batgirl and it can tie-in to something completely unrelated, like Adventures of Superman.
Seriously, not that this is a fair comparison, but when webcomics can offer a chance of something like this, I'm there.
" The government is doing this because they are greedy and they want more money -- money in the form of tax dollars from the entertainment industry."
You mean like the two (possibly three, now) years recently when Time Warner paid no tax at all?
The government, this government, has done nothing but lower the tax burden on corporations to the tune of 28 of the 275 largest corporations having paid NO taxes AT ALL from 2001-2003 http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/10/04/corporate.taxes/. Some of them actually got money back, even though their profits were astronomical.
Look at that and then tell me that the government's interest lies in taking more and more money from corporate America. This IP Piracy Czar thing has nothing to do with taxes.
Oh for crying out loud. You HAVE to know exactly what he meant.
"They" are the people who make the final decisions. "They" are the people "you can't speak for".
I am sure that there are people who work at MS who are passionate about their work and are actually nice people. That is not the point. It is obvious from any number of examples over the past two decades that MS, AS A CORPORATION, does not particularly care about either quality of their products or innovation in those products.
What the parent post said was dead on.
Either you're lucky or he was really unlucky. I really wanted those bottles too, damn it.
It isn't that you were unlucky. It is that absolutely none of these rules and principles make any sense at all.
I just flew back from Italy, through Frankfurt. When you board in Italy to fly to Germany, it is absolutely no hassle. But when you go to fly to the USA, there is of course a special check-in section for flights to either the USA or Israel. It is an utter nightmare.
I was standing there in one of the fifty lines I stood in that day, and they were checking everyone. There was this sign that said you can't take long-handled combs, clippers, lighters, etc. Meanwhile I had a 1L bottle of Johnnie Walker Green Label with me. No problem. Of course, that thing is made of glass, weighs what? 4 or 5 lbs? It could be used as either a blunt or a sharp weapon.
Oh, and the best part, is that even if they didn't let everyone with the wine and the liquor on the plane, they SERVE BEER IN GLASS BOTTLES ON THE FLIGHT! They gave me metal utensils to eat with as well (spork, knife, spoon).
Oh, also they let me take aboard a glass vase from Murano which is made of thick glass and has sharp-cut edges. Also could be a nice (albeit expensive if it broke) weapon.
Oh, and my all metal Parker ball boint pen as well.
Basically, all the crap they put you through at the airport is for show, and for show only.
Next time I go to Europe, I will fly there; but I will take a ship back. Six days in luxury on the QM2 versus the bullshit that you go through in an airport, being treated like a damned criminal sixteen times in two hours just so you can be crammed into a tiny little seat and listen to screaming babies for nine hours?
In a word: No.
I have always had good dealings with Amazon, so this is a strange and unique situation. Tiger hasn't shipped yet for me, as of 6:31pm EST. It has been in the "Shipping Soon" category since early Thursday morning. The funny (or sad, depending) thing about it is that the big Tiger ad on Amazon's front page said "Will ship on April 28!" *sigh*
I always ordered from Apple directly in the past, but I figured a $35 rebate was too good to pass up. Oh, well. In the long run, it won't matter if I had to wait a few days. But dammit, I want my Tiger!
Prior to her beginning her government career, O'Connor Kelly served as Vice President-Data Protection and Chief Privacy Officer for Emerging Technologies for the
online media services company, DoubleClick.
"Online media services", yeah, that's one way of putting it.
These people are beyond contempt. Someone upthread mentioned how cynical people here at/. seem to be. I'm not sure what other reaction would be sensible, in light of the types of stories which seem to flow more and more freely every day.

Excuse me while I go puke.
Because the authors of the study never played sports?

And nothing you just said negates what the parent posted. Is it also a requirement that the student do all this schoolwork completely unsupervised?
You are aware of what "per capita" means, right?
According to this newly updated page at Apple's Dev site, the new Macs use EFI.
But, I suppose that's what a little maturity does for you.

Easy decision.
