So, lets see... An employee is aware of a product that might benefit your company, so he suggests it. It sounds to me like your "evaluation" wasnt a very good one at all. In order to evaluate things you are supposes to limit your risks. His suggestion ending up being bad is not his fault, you're puting multiple employees files and work at risk is YOUR fault.
But hey... apparently someone got fired for suggesting MICROSOFT... an internet first.
Not at my college... At UT (The University of Texas at Austin), I haven't had a single math test I *was* allowed to use a calculator on. EE and physics courses are different, but in math, it seems to be a major wrong here.
Don't quite like the scanner idea about the handhelds though... Since it would most likely be transmitted wirelessly... by next month some lame hacker would have grabbed 1000+ credit card numbers by sitting outside the local Chile's or whatever...
Their security there sounds a lot like their security here at UT...
For example, common voters, without any insider privileges, can cast unlimited votes without being detected by any mechanisms within the voting terminal
The vending machines here around campus (using a diebold system) were used by almost 600 students to get "free" food... In an audit they detected it... Full text here
