Page 700?...runs to bookshelf...
What kind of large type edition do you have? Mine ends on 468. Hardly a long book...is yours illustrated?
Now Quicksilver, there's a longy. The 927th page left me rabid for two more 900+ page volumes & I STILL didn't get enough.
But hey, one mans Hemingway is...well, crap actually but you get the idea.;-P

Rupert Murdoch has stated that the 'newspaper industry needs to embrace the technological revolution of the Internet, MP3 players, laptops and mobile phones or face extinction.'"

> When you develop "true AI" you dont make a press release about it...
This is exactly what I said to a broker that asked me about this press release yesterday. I didn't even need to read it to call bullshit.
"It's a company press release?" "Yeah." "It's total bull."
1. - Obviously these people have no idea just what a "true AI" is...a concept that will never be realized.
2. - Companies love buzzwords and press releases.
3. - They go on to describe what's basically help desk software, no matter how advanced it may be(prob not very) it's still just an overrated answering machine.
4. - Something I haven't heard anyone else mention yet: THIS IS A PINKSHEET COMPANY. They're not even a Nasdaq Small-Cap, nay not even traded on the Bulletin Boards. This means that they basically provide no financial data to almost anyone and have virtually no oversight.
I'll make this simple: IT'S A PUMP AND DUMP SCHEME.
The company's market cap has already been artificially inflated to over $300 Million as of friday's market close. Know who's selling the stock in this wonderfull enterprise to all the new investors enticed by this "breakthrough"? The managment(and stock promoters) of course! They just want to share the wealth you see. Because that's what you do if you really think that you have something that will change the world, give others a chance to get in "on the ground floor".

Wow. This comment reminds me of what the mayor of nawlins said earlier: "This is our Tsunami." Wow. Think about that a second. By the time all this is over less than 200 people will have lost their lives compared to over 100,000 in southeast asia. I wonder how many of those villagers had insurance? Or job skills and the financial ability to relocate? Whiners! Damn straight! Where's our relief money from Thailand?! Frickin idiots...
How do you know it's constricted to Earth? It simply says that it will give you information about where you are. Since it's humans that can't seem to get very far beyond Earth it's a bit premature to say this device can't give info if you happened to be somewhere else in the galaxy dontchathink? Besides, as long as we're being grammar nazis, The "Real" h2g2 gave info on a lot more places than just one galaxy. Let's all go tell Doug Adams' estate that we(the mighty/.) have decided they should change the title of his book because honestly, how can we believe a word in it if the title is a lie!?
The only pay site I use is emusic.com which gives you the files in.mp3 format. The drawback (for most) is that most of the artist/labels are either independent, electronic, experimental or otherwise very ecclectic. This is awesome for me because that's most of what I listen to. I've subscribed to Napster and iTunes but I just can't get past the non-mp3 thing. With emusic I get 60 songs per month for $10 or just under $0.17 per song and if it's not there I grab it off p2p. I also buy (gasp) the cd or album (as in vinyl) for my favorite artists and digitize them to mp3 right away so I can listen to the burned cd in my car and the mp3 on my comp or portable. I always have the orginal in my physical library. BTW, what I do purchase in physical form I try to buy direct from the artist or label and if they have some BS copyright warning on the packaging I go home and grab it off the net just for spite.;-)
No way, that pic's too funny. It looks a lot like my brother and what's more I grew up in Hallandale, FL. which that dumpster seems to be the property of... Next time he pisses me off I'll be emailing that pic to his girlfriend...
I have no idea if dvorak is any good or not but the link provided by the parent post is no authority either. I've heard the qwerty version about the jammed keys and eh, might have some truth in it but the actual reason for that layout is so the word "typewriter" would be easy to find and type for typewriter salesmen. Need proof? Look at the top row of your keyboard. Here's one link but there's many more:

Hmph, you would think that people posting on/. would already know this stuff...or at least know how to use google...
Not really. I work in on a trading desk and you just can't have alerts popping up every time you enter a large number. This is just one of the risks of having a job that involves large sums of money, you have to check yourself and make sure you're right. Hell, I got my job because the guy before me bought puts to open, BPO, instead of buying puts to close, BPC. It was a $25 million error and it really wasn't actually his fault, more like a miscommunication. Oh well, it happens. I remember a big error a couple years back made by a new kid at a very large firm that caused a very large stock to drop signifigantly. A lot of people profited from it including people at my firm. An hour later the NASD halted the stock and cancelled all the trades because the error was so big and would have had financial implications for the entire economy. Everything was "fixed" eventually but you better believe that was the last trading job that kid ever had.
On Wednesday June 22, @02:01PM [daveschroeder] doth spake the following flamebait:
Various FOX News "watchdog" groups are a dizzying array of alleged inaccuracies in FOX News opinion and editorial shows, with almost nothing in actual NEWS content (and certainly not more than any other news organization).
Ok. I'll bite...sigh.
That's because FOX has no news, only op-ed presented as news. Other news organizations are really bad too...but FOX is the worst, by far.
Further, whenever FOX News does commit an error in NEWS content, it voluminously and repeatedly spends the next hour, or at least that news show/hour, correcting itself for the benefit of people who may have missed the initial correction.
You're kidding right? I mean, that IS a joke right? FOX NEVER runs retractions. Name ONE. I watch FOX most of the day at work (because I have to) and they are shameless about reporting rumour as fact. Although they do ALTER their reports as the story develops, they NEVER acknowledge this. They simply change their tune and prattle on.
And that event itself is a rarity. About the only complaint people have in news content is FOX News substituting "homicide bomber" for "suicide bomber". Which is, frankly, a perfectly acceptable description of that particular act,...
No. It's not. ALL bombers are "homicide bombers". What the term "suicide bomber" tells you that "homicide bomber" does not is that the bomber took his own life in the act and therefore that his belief in his "cause" (however misguided and wrong) is that strong. Noone takes their own life if they think what they're doing isn't important. "Guerrillas", "millitants" or "mercenaries" may *risk* their lives for cause or compensation but do not take their own for what they believe is the greater good. FOX made the change on purpose so viewers don't make the leap to thinking of them as "freedom fighters". Right or wrong, it's ideological and has no place in "news". This is the same practice as refering to "copyright infringement" as "piracy" or "theft" even when no theft has in fact been committed. "Copyright infringement, while illegal, doesn't carry the same weight as "theft" so they use the more disturbing word even though it is not accurate because it instills the desired response in the mind of the viewer/reader/listener.
But if it makes people feel better, or more self-righteous, or whatever, to consider FOX News a far-right-wing Republican/conservative Bush administration propaganda mouthpiece, more power to them, I suppose. (Have any of these people ever watched a non-op-ed, i.e., NOT Bill O'Reilly, Hannity and Colmes, etc., hard news show on FOX News, which consumes the majority of the news day from 8am until 7pm?)
Hard news on FOX...heh. Look. FOX's daily news programming is so entwined with pundits in the guise of anchors, guests and of course "experts" that there is no separation of "news" and "op-ed". Most of my co-workers couldn't tell if the current segment is the "news", one of their many "news style shows" or op-ed. They do this on purpose.
I always thought the "My" thing was pretty annoying but then they kept adding and adding "my" folders...My Documents, My Pictures, My Videos...
I resisted at first, (I always used a "myStuff" directory before) but software apps started defaulting all the save dialogs to open into "My Documents" so I eventually gave in.
Now it's actually kinda usefull because they're all listed next to each other because they're all named "My whatever". Always towards the top of the directory because they're capital letters. Now they're all just going to be mixed through the directory? Or are they going to be a "special" system folder? Maybe so they can make sure all the files are DRM?
Guess I'll be going back to using "myStuff"...or maybe "!myStuff"...
You said it brother. The really funny thing is, wall street *still* has no idea what google's potential really is. I mean, look where their market cap is already and they're only being compared to yahoo so far.
*snip*
Why make a sequal? Unless you replace the cast with people who can act...
*snip*
Actually I don't think the acting was bad at all, nor the special effects. The directing made it seem like it went nowhere and the chopped story made sure of it. But I really don't think you can blame the actors for how truly, unbelievably awful this film was.
I don't think many fans of the books were expecting the movie to be "true" to the book. I know I certainly wasn't. But it was *nothing* like the book. Not clever, not interesting and most of all NOT FUNNY. (Ok a few small chuckles.) But I really wanted to like this movie and it was just plain bad. Not just for fans either. If you haven't read the book you would have no idea what was going on, if you have, well, you were probably cringing at how it was slaughtered.
It would be the best decision Apple has ever made and would guarantee them at least a 10% market share. I have often wondered why they haven't done this yet considering the demand for a non-microsoft os for x86 that is user-friendly.

Does this mean we'll be able to get wikipedia on an implant? Wait, would just anyone be able to edit it? ^o^
