    That is not without its own problems. A certain secure shell comes to mind...

    The answer, whether it's windows, linux, unix, bsd, plan 9, or even a commodore 64, is patch early, patch often, test, and pray.

    Yes, I should rephrase that. Properly written software is usually forward compatible. Timing routines which rely on processing power never will scale. Using the old hack for (i=0;i is as bad as playing Marylin Manson records in a church, and should be punished in the same fashion (Derision from your peers, possible excommunication).

    Actually, I am quite familiar with trolls, trolling, and the sort. Your definition would be considered a Classic Troll. More definitions can be found here, which are specific to Slashdot.
    You still don't believe me, check my sig.

    And I agree with your analogy. Hasn't backwards-compatibility been the legacy (and bane) of the x86 architecture? Programs written for a 286 should theoretically run on a 686.
    It's best to bridge the gap between 32 and 64 now, rather than start all over again.

    No, a troll would be saying that you're going to buy some eggs to fry on this processor, or even better some grits to pour on Natalie Portman.

    And the end user won't realize a big difference, and the bang-for-buck ratio won't be there either. But serious database apps, cad, and any other high-end market will most definitely benefit.

    But the world puts up with it because of the shitty, Dollar store trinkets that they produce. They start producing other things that can put a dent in the economy, then you can bet that there would be heavy pressure on their government to stop.

    Also, at what point would the people stop being walked all over? Once China has a huge economy, capitalist, communist or otherwise, if the wealth is not spread a bit more than now (which has gotten better than ten years ago), the people just might wise up.

    They just want to keep the Chinese as a cheap labour force. Prevent them from producing anything that isn't sold in a bargain bin, and you've doomed them to western dependance.

    In addition, why can't we pick our own characters? The original was great, I played nearly every combination of characters possible (although I gave up on the four white mages, the ogres slaughtered me every time).

    As long as I don't have to buy a subscription, this one looks easier hacked than the X-box, and cheaper to build than a Via box.

    If it has a full-fledged mobo and bios, I'm all for it. Let's just hope they sell it at a loss as well.
