To continue my post: Is it me or do you just wanna run over those damn cones/barrels/card-type things? Your stuck in traffic next to a perfectly good road that's blocked off by those damn traffic control devices. And you just want to yank the wheel over, plow through a couple of them and take off.
NASA probes landed on mars, they're now all byt gone from the news. If humans went, it would be close to front page stuff most days they were away from earth.
Heck, they could tape it all and have an hour a night on what the Astronauts were doing on Mars. It would be the ultimate reality TV show!
Manned space flight does make sense. Blowing things up with million dollar bombs and then paying to have them rebuilt again doesn't make any sense. One gets you somewhere, and one doesn't.
Would you rather we just not go to the movies? They've already got my money once I'm in the theatre, and then they complain about stealing. I want paid for my time that I have to sit through TV commercials in the theatre. At my going rate: $25 an hour, paid annually. Thankyouverymuch.
Code is speech. Even unpopular code. What's the difference between printing out computer code or speaking it from memory and distributing it over the Internet? I can't see any, so long as it can be said or written.
What's the difference betwen writing "$_='while read+STDIN,..." and saying "Here's how you change the oil in your car..."? They both tell you how to do something that takes 'money' away from people. This is why code wants to be free, because it's no different from instructions.
That's not the point. The point is that we're breaking the law if we watch something we legally rented because we chose to use a different Operating System. And it still doesn't change the fact that Valenti thinks that we're horrible immoral thieves for wanting to watch his crappy movies.
Read this and think about it. What's more important, privacy, rights and freedom, or making sure multimillionaires stay multimillionaires.
Note to the MPAA: Valenti is a dinosaur who thinks that it's amazing that we can have sound it movies. Get rid of him, and maybe we'll respect your laws.
Wow. Harsh. I hope people who work for or invest in Monsanto see the error of their ways and release documents that bring Monsanto down, and start a new wave of food labeling and production regulations.
How can the poor countries in the world expect to compete when they have Monsanto telling them they can't keep seeds to plant next year; that they have to renew their license on the code stored in the seed?
I'm appalled that/.ers don't get this. DNA is the ultimate open source code. It is ultracompatible, editable, and self-copying. No one can patent it, because it not only wants to be free, it has the capability of being free on its own. Put the code in a seed and it will grow and reproduce. Trying to patent that is like trying to sell air; it can't be done, because it moves freely, without human control.
Barring the ecological side effects, it isn't cost effective to buy seeds each year when free seeds are made by the crop every year.
In simpler terms: Monsanto = Microsoft (closed source) Plain Artificial selection = Linux (open source, anyone can contribute, anyone can obtain it)
I'm suprised no one is upset that they're trying to patent the very things that make life.
They're not natural. There is no way a fish could breed with a cow. There is no way that a bacteria could breed with a plant. This isn't natural, it's artificial, and we don't know what effects it would have. Even the most pedigreed cow is still a cow.
I don't see how you can patent genes when they self-reproduce. Are you going to sue a farmer who has a monsanto corn plant growing in the corner of his yard that is from a seed that fell of a truck from his neighbor? It's like licensing a worm and then suing the people whose computers it infects: Lunacy.
Dude, I live there. It's not that interesting. Nothing blew up, and there are only a few fish with three eyes. But it's near Hershey, so you could pick up some chocolate while you're there.
When did he apply at Apple again? The culture has changed a lot in the ensuing years. I applied (on a whim) and got a politely worded rejection. Poor little baby didn't get to work at Apple? Boo hoo. As for quality: If Netscape is causing Type 11 errors, fix it. (Can you say extension conflict?)
But I guess that makes sense, though: If the folks at Microsoft can't fix a simple problem on a Mac, no wonder why their own software is so screwy.

Maybe it's me. Maybe it's because I live in the land of perpetual road construction
I for one welcome our new robo-bollard overlords.

Not again...

And read the link. Very nice.

Hell. Handbasket. Us.
Dave Matthews Band isn't available on iTMS yet. They've got a lot of catching up to do.
As a computer geek, I'd rather get a Prius and spend the savings on a fabulous computer-enabled home. But that's me.
giving us episodes involving time plots and DeathStars
Maybe Archer should look for a teeny weeny vulnerable hole?

He's got a point. *Remembers his Performa 6290CD that froze when it was started up the first time.*
Why Apple switched to slot loading drives: They're cooler. Way cooler.
Even better idea: Make a $99 Book reader and give that to the kids.
So where is my Three-Mile island tour?

Not hot as in popular, hot as in radioactive.

If I had mod points, you'd be Score 5:Funny
We forgive you. We don't have type 11 errors anymore. You can come back to the Mac any time you want. *opens arms* You sound like you need a hug.

I've only had to reinstall once (after un-partitioning my drives), but that'll be the order once I get my new Powerbook.(Do those count? They come with the OS, but you kinda have to install the seperately. Oh well.)
