On my last vacation my microdrive and my cf card work perfectly even after going through 7 airport scanners in 14 days. So I guess your memory cards should be pretty safe...

I don't know about Afghanistan, but:
France NEVER trusted Germany and vice versa, only in the last 50 years this changed.
When Germany invaded Poland in 1939 they had the SUPPORT of the USSR!

No, but he can use a computer! In all (modern) cars I know the odometers can be set to any number you like - you just need the right equipment and about 2-5 minutes. There is no way you can detect if someone altered the odometer or not. In Europe you can find too much people who are able to do this...
Or you could eat at "Cafe Bleu" same owner (I guess) and also 2,50 EUR (not 5 EUR as the previous poster stated - dude, remember to convert from DM to EUROs!) for the Studi-Essen.
