some of us have been using the win32 port of mplayer for a year now, it works great, just like on linux.
MPlayer for Win32 if anyone wants to check it out, also need the codec pack here , and there are some frontends on the projects page if you dont like the command line (or just set it to open movie files). also includes mencoder with xvid 1 and mp3lame encoding support.
drm not supported yet, and be sure to upgrade your mplayers! lots of new features from pre3 and LOTS more to come, faad 2 sync, color subs, check the wishlist to see whats wished/planned.

its pretty good. lots of the servers are swamped tho, need more of them, anyone can run a freecache 'node'. its almost like freenet, cept not anonymous.
too bad the status seems to be down, its fun to see what clips/games/demo/patches are going around.
they want a credit card for you to retrieve your free itunes aac, and since this was a promotion geared towards teens, how are they supposed to get thier free music?
i had a couple caps but i didnt feel like signing up. great promotion there. only.5% went thru with it.
i installed itunes just to hear previews so i could grab the songs elsewhere, purchase or download. (cause aac is not my fav)
amazon is good for this, and there used to be other websites, but amazon seems to have got them all now (cdnow, musicblvd, etc)
especially because itunes is very bloated. and its understandable for a webbrowser/mediaplayer/medialibrary/cdburning/musi cstore. and whatever else they want to stick in there.
That data include four states' criminal histories, 33 states' correctional data, sexual-offender lists from 27 states, driver licenses from 15 states and motor-vehicle registrations from 13.

Remember... We live in a time where people will vote for American Idol contestants (25+ million a week watch that shit) but we can't get anyone to vote for who runs our country.
i wasnt aware one could vote for our presidential electorate without form of identification or registration, over the phone, multiple times if we wished, for a small fee...
when you make it easier to vote... internet or phone, you will get many more people voting.
of course, i dont watch reality tv... or american idol.
Meet Daniel Brandt. He is a self-proclaimed public interest activist and the owner of Google-Watch.org Mr. Brandt founded Google-Watch.org after his own site, Namebase.org, did not get a good Google PageRank.
too bad there is still that dreaded analog speaker/headphone jack for easy recording off.
i agree 30secs is too short, 1min would be nice... but its free to listen to the 30 seconds, and you dont even have to sign up (i havent signed up for itunes, and i just used it to look for a song with the title 'riot' (about 190 results). but didnt find my song), it only asked me to login a couple times, just hit cancle/later.
the codec cartalk uses is Windows Media 9 Voice Decoder, which is not implemented nor easily importable into mplayer (seems mplayer is not calling the dll correctly). but have no fear, the dev's are working to get this codec in.
others who dont import the codec will see the error "Cannot find codec for audio format 0xA."
Are there Windows Media Player choices for Linux?
You can use MPlayer, which is free, or The CrossOver Plugin from CodeWeavers for $25.
but they took that out of the current page google cache

the way old quicktime 3 movies could be played in windows media player afair.
there are quicktime and real alternatives, which just use their codecs in wmp
or you can use the mingw win32 port of mplayer, which works great on windows:) plus it uses directx, so if your card doesent have linux drivers, the windows drivers will give mplayer its acceleration..
i actually thought this would be a good idea for nullsoft/aol to do, is create a simple car sattelite internet connection with an internet radio dingy to connect to any of your favorite shoutcast or even your home music collection mp3 streamed server.
I want to be able to run programs automatically in the middle of the night and make them do whatever I want them to. With Windows I can't even use the CD player to act as an alarm clock. This is a result of having a crappy command line and windows programs that don't use command line switches.
just a hint, i've used winamp with task scheduler, just set it "winamp.exe "d:\track01.cda"" (i used an mp3 instead of a cdtrack, but i'm sure it will work.) at 6 am, yes, waking up to 311-down a couple times is fun.
so if apple isint making money on itunes, why dont they open up ipod and let it play wma? then they still sell more ipods, the other online music companies lose/dont profit much, and the customers win. the only reason not to is possibly because of the wma license.
its win/win/win/lose.
