It wouldn't hurt for computer science students to learn about mainframes, or even limited resource embedded systems. It would make them better, more well-rounded IT folk.
Computer Science != IT
There are programs at colleges for IT and there are programs at colleges for Computer Science. Just because a Computer Science student is better at IT because he/she understands the inner workings of a programming language does not mean that Computer Science people have to be IT.
I design web pages all day long for internal use on a Tier I Supplier. I have just recently started adding this to my web pages (as of Sept 2004) and surprisingly people appreciate the pages. Most of the feedback on these pages are just as said, "It feels more like an application." There is no constant refreshing, and people greatly enjoy that. The only problem is the learning curve of this new way of doing pages. I have other developers around me that would not even try to use the stuff, but agree that it is cool. While others just cannot grasp the concept of it. I personally love it! Not only is it faster in response time, it is actually easier to program, then the pages that constantly refresh. Go Figure!
Now only if AdBlock could get rid of the in page ad's such as the ones that come on GMAIL... I know it is an impossible dream because of how they where generated, but it would still be cool;)

How long until 321 will be required to hand over their customer list (at least the ones that registered)? If they can force this company out of business, it seems to me the next step is to go after the users. You know, the ones doing the acutal "law breaking".
If you use peerguardian and 321 Software you will notice that the program does not work because it blocks reporting to the 321 sites. This means that not only do they have a legal list of registered users that have bought it, but they also have a list of IP's of all the people who have burned a movie. While I have not checked what these packets contain, I can only assume they have a whole list of any thing that any one has ever copied...
However, this conventional wisdom is unsupported by quantitative data. In fact, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) security vulnerabilities database lists more vulnerabilities for Linux than Windows in the last ten years. In addition, under the internationally recognized Common Criteria for IT Security Evaluation (ISO 15408), Windows has been certified to Evaluation Assurance Level 4 (EAL 4), a higher level of security than the EAL 2 that Linux has achieved.
Is this not due to the fact that only people inside M$ can check their own code, and that they will not always disclose vulnerabilities?
Linux on the other hand almost always instantly discloses its bugs.
Although Google obviously won't be releasing it's search algorithms it might well release the code for things like the Google FileSystem (PDF) which may benefit a lot of people.
If this was to happen just imagine how much longer we would have to wait for Microsoft to release Longhorn.
The spam filter on Outlook 2003 also kills all gmail messages as a default. I had three invites in my Junk Email Folder, and four from friends writing from the gmail account...

That was absolutly hilarious! I just called IT for a new keyboard! Nice post!
Who gives a shit? I'm 39, and too mentally ill to attract a wife, so no kids.
With that attitude it is no suprise! But then again 75% of the world is mentally ill, and still using M$IE.

I am sorry does it not work with your MS-DOS, or is it your Win 3.1?
It is a sad day when a tech company teases us with the "better and cheaper" slogan.
But then again it can not be any worse then my date last night where the girl opted for "better and more expensive".
All my favorite toys are against me right now!
I can only imagine these games having doom 3 specs...
3Ghz Processor
2G of Ram
256MB Video Card
Gigabit Ethernet Connection
Mouse/Keyboard/Monitor
SoundCard
Welfare is helping the higher end manufactures make some money... Remember to save the poor, you must feed the rich!
They just did it so that they could up their page ranking on words such as "pr0n".
Or...
Now that we have these supper monkeys that are workaholics, maybe we should put them to work!
I would rather attract the hot women in to the field!
Us nerds need eye candy too...
Think about it if we would stare at a screen all day long our eyes would burn out... with a little eye candy you are saving our eyes!
Such as?
I know mine would be on my mouse!

Napster on the stock ticker... who would have thought that was going to happen 5 years ago?!
A lot of CS majors are unfortunately stuck in programming jobs until they get their masters...
Not that I can complain, I just graduated and I am making a lot of money compared to my engineering friends, and I am getting my maters paid for!
Cheers to the geek in all of us!
Differences between women and big companies:
Big Companies Definition of 'No Intention':
I do not plan on doing any thing until it is more profitable for me to sue them
Women's Definition of 'No Intention':
Never in a million years are you going to get it any more.
The two most powerful forces in the world constantly keeping us down!
I am 100% sure... it might have just been in a certain version though. But I thought I was using the newest one...
By including a link to their sites in each blog entry, M$ sites will finally have a high enough pageranking on Google!

My White Bun 3.0 which uses Wheat 2.0 is incompatible with my hamburger 3.0 that uses beef 2.8b.
Shucks, why can they not get proper version control on these things...
I can just imagine the taxes that they will put on this gas station here in Michigan. But then again that is what we need... more taxes...
